[Public service information – The most recent edition of modern strategy makers was just published. The New Makers of Modern Strategy (2023, Princeton University Press) follows the second edition (1986) of collected writings on transnational strategies that was launched with its first edition in 1943. The collected essays by history’s notables range in time from 4,000 BC to the present. Heavy emphasis is on thoughts of 20th century world leaders and luminaries. The 1,100+ page tome is edited by Hal Brands and put out through the auspices of the Henry Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. In its various editions Makers continues to be the handbook for analyzing, understanding, and formulating the strategies of empires and sovereign nation states. The contributions from Sun-Zi through Mao Zedong are classics which bear on decisions made today on the national objectives and conduct of military, economic, trade, etc strategies. The book reads well and its heft promotes maintenance of upper body strength for the diligent reader. gjr]

Try to connect the dots scotto, Based on Marco Rubio’s intelligence committee reports, why wouldn’t Schiff think that Trump was up to something? But the Republican party is more interested in getting back at Schiff, and planning to impeach Biden then actually understanding what’s going on, or working for the American people.

On Saturday, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado posted a video on Twitter in which she claimed that she had intentionally skipped Wednesday’s key House vote on a bill to suspend the nation’s debt ceiling.
“No excuses: I was ticked off they wouldn’t let me do my job, so I didn’t take the vote,” Boebert said, going on to allege that the voices of individual House members had been stifled during the legislative process. “Call it a no-show protest, but I certainly let every one of my colleagues and the country know I was against this garbage of a bill.”
But Boebert’s claim of a deliberate “protest” absence is contradicted by her own words in the congressional record. After the vote ended on Wednesday, Boebert submitted an official statement in which she said she had been “unavoidably detained” for the vote and would have voted against the bill had she been present.

Serial Liar 6:59 – Nice try. I’ll assume here you’re going with some lefty article you read. Your scenario has no basis in fact. Schiff was the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee who held “secret” meetings with witnesses re the phony Trump/Russia collusion hoo-ha. It could be true that Schiff really thought there was something to the story, but none of his witnesses provided any evidence that there was any connection between Trump and the Russian govt. After he had heard all the witnesses he then knew there was nothing to the story, but the story was just too good to let go of and Schiff repeatedly lied to the news media and the American public that his secret meetings provided proof that Trump was colluding with the Russian govt. All of this is well established fact via CNN, MSNBC, et al. Schiff had said originally he would release the info to the public but was left with the problem now that he had lied and there was, in fact – zero evidence. After stalling, the Rs forced him to release the evidence and Schiff was left flapping his gums that there really, really was evidence but somehow he just couldn’t give any details. Schiff lied. Had this been a civilian criminal case with Schiff acting as a DA, Trump would have had Schiff in prison for his actions.

I think it’s fair to say that they are actually skeered and don’t know why anyone would want one. The technical details all just sound like sophistry to these folks.
OTOH, it’s probably reasonable to assume that there’d be fewer firearms deaths in the US if all firearms were illegal. There’d also be fewer deaths if Coca-Cola, alcohol, Twinkies, and cars were illegal. It’s a matter of what risks you are willing to put up with.
The Founding Fathers were a more serious and far-thinking people than the peculiar creatures that make up the modern chattering class. What on earth would Thomas Jefferson make of Adam Schiff or State Senator (and aptly named) Scott Weiner? The modern mechanisms for choosing elected officials appear to set the bar pretty low.

Local idiot David Briceno has an Other Voices in today’s The Union:

Here in western Nevada County any multitudinous murder shooting sprees? Zero. California, however, leads the nation in mass shootings. And like most states, California doesn’t ban assault weapons. Bans deter widespread murders. Not all, of course. But they help.”
Funny guy. California has had an “Assault Weapon” ban on the books for 33 years, and it is widely assumed to be on the verge of being thrown out in Federal court.
Some of us are on pins and needles waiting for Judge Benitez to issue the order!

The interesting thing (to me) was the difference in states. That would be interesting to dig into. The near identical murder rate between AZ and CA considering the vast difference in gun law always sticks out to me, but a person (or GPT-5) could really dig into some of this stuff with enough data. A person would probably just stumble onto more hatefacts, but you never know.
