[Good news department. It turns out that if you drink both modestly and regularly, then all kinds of health benefits can accrue to you. For most men that means no more than two drinks (wine, beer, whiskey) a day, and no more than one drink a day for women – a drink contains about 12-14 grams of alcohol. Hallelujah! (More here) gjr]

scenes 2:02 – “…de-dollarization continues…”
And that’s the big one. Coupled with our nation’s inability to rein in the debt we might be facing some serious financial problems sooner than anyone might want to believe. Once countries start to lose faith in our green paper, it might end up being a stampede to the exit door.
Most all American citizens and our politicians (a very few exceptions) have no friggin clue how propped up our economy is with assets that are over priced due to how we abuse the fact that the US dollar is the basis for most all other currencies.
This is something the individual states cannot escape. Our best hope now is that China mishandles their economy worse than ours.
And hope is not a plan.

I hadn’t heard or read anything like that, dunno what the details were.
It always seemed insane to me that the urgent care wasn’t physically attached to the ER. Triage nurse sends you to one or the other if it wasn’t obvious to begin with, and it could probably stand to have 24/7 staffing by a PA or similar. It was nonsensical for people to get $13k bills for simply being sick, or for people to be directed to the ER after waiting an hour or three at the urgent care center.
Maybe it’ll end up that way.

I suspect that bond markets combined with the ability to quickly move money will multiply any currency collapse (aside from sheer inertia). For all it’s faults, moving promissory notes, bits of paper, metal, probably acted as a kind of circuit breaker.
No doubt the central banks’ responses will be to ladle on more and more control circuitry while barely understanding derivatives on derivatives. Feedback loops are a helluva thing.
I’m praying for the Drag Queen Federal Reserve Board to take office, the perfect modern solution.

Huh. Werd. I wonder why the owners of a horrid-looking little strip mall would care who is in the space. Maybe they want to tear the building down.
In any case, it could well be that binding urgent care more closely to the hospital is a good thing. Given the current health landscape, I’m surprised we have either one at all.
Speaking of which, the upcoming war between GPT-X and the cardiologists, radiologists, etc. should be pretty wild. Lots of iron rice bowls at stake and medical testing is an area that shrieks out for AI.

It sounds like the reason for the Fowlers not wanting the space to continue to be a medical facility is actually contained in the arguments made that it just absolutely should be a medical facility.
If the “community” thinks it’s just so darn necessary to have that operation going, then the “community” can put their coins together and buy some land and get the permits and build such an operation. My goodness – they had to PAY to have their stuff moved out!! Maybe the Fowlers should do it for free? It’s the Fowler’s property – they’re not throwing a little crippled woman out on the gutter from her home. Almost all of the info is from one side of the story.
I suppose the whole thing gives the locals something to run their jaws about since the mine deal looks dead.

Yes.
Combined with the fact that the Fed will soon find their precious “tool box” of fixes will be worse than useless.
The only thing the Fed can do to fix the problem of waaaaay too much printed money chasing a declining base of real value is to jack up the interest rates. And WOKE Inc is driving our value base to the basement.
Good times, fer sure.

Culture warrior Scott may be correct. Kim Janousek of CABPRO fame (or infamy) is part of Team Fowler.
Or it might just be good old money grubbing going on. Commercial landlords sometimes require a percentage of the gross revenue. Maybe they are seeing ($)($) if they are getting a piece of the action of Dutch Bros. receipts.

Really? The Fowlers can only ask and the would-be tenants can say no.
Money grubbing is folks demanding 5 million ’cause they got caught dealing drugs.
“Commercial landlords sometimes require a percentage of the gross revenue.”
Only if the tenants agree to the deal.
Missy is making my point. The Fowlers might like to actually have some control over the property beyond being forced to pay taxes and insurance on the place. Imagine their surprise that what they thought was theirs is now “a community asset”.

I expect that they are busy buying tickets to cover bands to help pay for KVMR.
To be fair, my gut tells me that there was a time when prominent local businessmen actually bought things for a town, but that’s long over. If nothing else, bidness dudes are rare on the ground due to outsourcing (to huge corporations) of most commerce.
And, of course, the tendency is to let someone else deal with all your problems once the Free Shit Army really latches onto a place.
What do you bet that building a new medical facility is nearly impractical? After years of accreted building codes, permits, wrangling with city councils & county bureaucrats & planning commissions & ‘consultants’ it’s usually a lot better to just work with the grandfathered facility you’ve got. I can imagine how bad it is for clinics. Everyone has their hand out in a deal like that.

As Scott O said, we only have one side of the story. I am so out of touch that I thought Urgent Care was next to ER at Sierra Nevada Hospital. If you had a sickness/ailment more than a couple days, they sent you to Urgent Care. If less than 24 hours, ER took you in. Urgent Care was cheaper…….er……less expensive.
I will hold my fire until both sides of the story are in.

“It’s a good thing when people are allowed to speak freely. It’s a bad thing when Big Tech and the government work together to decide what we’re allowed to say. Why? Because they often get it wrong. Even worse, they get it wrong on purpose. As I said in my testimony before Congress, censorship guards the narrative, not the truth. In fact, it guards the narrative at the expense of the truth,” Dillon wrote.
He continued, “In today’s post-truth, anti-reality world, describing a male person as a man is considered ‘hateful conduct.’ If Big Tech is tasked by the state with eliminating hateful or misinformative content, they’ll stuff everything they don’t like into those categories, including opinions, jokes, and even factual statements. We’ve already experienced it first hand. We need laws that prohibit viewpoint discrimination, not laws that compel it under threat of penalties (and under the guise of good-faith content moderation).”

Now we know how truly screwed we are if the crackhead is translating English for creepy grampa joe! –
Hunter Biden had to explain a child’s question to his father, President Joe Biden, during the president’s trip to Ireland Wednesday, shocking social media users. The apparent confusion came after the elder Biden struggled to answer the child’s question about success.
“What’s the top step to success?” the child asked the president.
“What’s the top what?” Biden responded.
“Step — steps — step to success,” the child answered.
Biden responded that the way to be successful is to stop COVID-19 from spreading.
“Oh, well, making sure that we don’t all have COVID. What — why — what are we talking about here?” he asked.
At this point, Hunter Biden intervened.
“If you can — what’s the — what’s the key to success?” the president’s son asked, attempting to clarify the child’s question.
“Oh, what’s the key to success? You know what I found out is the key to success is? And I’m not sure I’m the best guy to explain it; these guys can tell you,” the president responded.
He then talked about the importance of not personally attacking people with whom you disagree.

I suspect its more widespread as the wokesters/blm/antifa took hold –
He argued that as black and Hispanic populations grew, so did the public’s want for more discriminatory sentences.
But that was not true, as the original data apparently showed no relationship between growing minority populations and demands for increased prison sentences.
Pickett said that their sample size had somehow increased from 500 to over 1,000 respondents, the counties polled had decreased from 326 to 91, and the data was altered to the point of mathematical impossibility. Thus, he accused Stewart of doctoring the sample size so that the study yielded his desired outcome
Stewart reportedly refused to provide a copy of the original data for over four months after Pickett confronted him.
Soon after, that study — and five others dating back to 2006 — were retracted.
Pickett now says the problem of data manipulation is widespread in academia.
“There’s a huge monetary incentive to falsify data and there’s no accountability. If you do this, the probability you’ll get caught is so, so low,” Pickett told The Florida Standard. “There’s too much incentive to fake data and too little oversight.”

Aside from the fact that most sociology adjacent disciplines are chock full of BS, you do get the problem of someone who starts with a conclusion and works backward. A quick look at Mr. Stewart’s published stuff show yer typical extended-form ‘here’s what I feel’ combined with ‘personal anecdote’ and ‘a few quasi-related references to other semi-useless papers’.
Nice work if you can get it.
To some extent you can rejoice in this kind of thing. The fact that we’ve accumulated so much cruft and drones in the hivemind might simply show how rich this society is. It’s like having a large overhead of a priest class who take in produce and fine bulls from the subsistence farmers and then have a nice dinner after offering it all to the gods.
I’m holding out hope that GPT-7 or -8 will write more accurate studies on this kind of thing but strongly suspect that they’ll either be neutered by the installation of lots and lots of adjustment knobs or be censored as the results will not be to the liking of the nomenklatura.
Accurate or not, I don’t doubt that all university sociology/criminology/etc. departments could be replaced by large language models, probably right now.

lol. Brilliant. If nothing else it gives all the bolshies something to chew the carpet about judging from Twitter. (Biden voters and DNC-run ‘news’ outlets: HOW DARE THEY INSULT DESANTIS!!! WE HATE TRUMP EVEN MORE!!!!)
In the long run, ie. a week or so, people will just have DeSantis associated with something unpleasant looking, they just won’t know why.
The real action will be in amateur political ads and funny pictures as MSM and MSM ad buys fade from view.

Memes will rule the universe, and things like MidJourney are their handmaiden. There’s a lot of clever people out there, and 99% of them are smarter than old school media folks.
In terms of photo-ops, I would strongly suggest that Kamala Harris doesn’t eat any county fair hotdogs.

What I’m waiting for is automated garbage-checkers going through old academic papers en masse. Perhaps using this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benford%27s_law
perhaps there are more sophisticated things. LLM ability to read language would be great help I would think. The uproar would be a beautiful thing. Poor knowledge of statistics by researchers combined with the grift-o-matic machine working 24/7 should provide plenty of bad science.

What a novel thought for an educational institution just dont let the dei demons know –
Pollack called the initiative “critical,” per the report, arguing that the university’s must focus on its mission to “think deeply about freedom of expression and the challenges that result from assaults on it, which today come from both ends of the political spectrum.”
“Learning from difference, learning to engage with difference and learning to communicate across difference are key parts of a Cornell education. Free expression and academic freedom are the bedrock not just of the university, but of democracy,” she said.

Chicago’s Summer Of Love is starting early this year –
“Hundreds of teenagers flooded into Downtown Chicago on Saturday night, smashing car windows, trying to get into Millennium Park, and prompting a major police response. At least one person in a car was attacked.”
The new mayor’s response: “However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”

re: Mostly Peaceful Riots in Chicago.
I ran into that one too. Naturally, my first inclination was to check and see if the code words ‘teen’ and ‘youth’ meant what I thought they meant. So, off to youtube.
What totally cracked me up was the ad that ran before the video. It was for something called the ‘Brite Bat’ which is basically a supersized baseball bat shaped Maglite that also has a big ol’ knife hidden inside.
It would be funny to see how Google has matched up ad space for pepper spray, clubs, security cameras with news items on mostly peaceful riots involving youths and teens. There’s definitely a dollar to be made here.
You can argue that making Portland, Chicago, San Francisco what they are makes a great deal of sense. It’s what the Soviets called a ‘kettle’.
