The Silicon Valley Bank(s)-Signature Bank (NY) have failed. Fed said no bailouts, no tax payer money involved. “Good!”, said I. 94% of the at risk monies were above the $250,000 threshold of the FDIC. Buyer beware. Risk comes with risk. The Feds said….
“The statement came as officials disclosed that Signature Bank had failed and was being seized by regulators in New York. With more than $110 billion in assets, Signature Bank is one of the largest bank failures in U.S. history behind the $175 billion Silicon Valley Bank that collapsed last week.
Federal regulators said all Silicon Valley Bank clients will be protected and have access to their funds soon and no taxpayer dollars would be needed to make customers whole.”

Why teachers have lost so much standing and respect –
A Maryland teacher, who described herself as “proud as fck to be liberal” and bragged about “indoctrinating” her students, called for an urgent fight against capitalism while adding, “Revolutions involve violence.”
The teacher, Rebeca F. Rothstein, works at North Bethesda Middle School in the Montgomery County School District and believes educators should use their classrooms to turn kids into anti-racist activists. She was an avid TikTok poster until Fox News Digital reached out about her comment on violent revolutions; her account was no longer active as of Monday.
Rothstein also posted about providing “Marxist literature” to kids and said, “Fck capitalism.” She shared in one instance that she was “tired after a long day of indoctrinating students.”
“I had to un-brainwash myself from capitalism in order to fall in love with socialism and communism,” she said. “If everyone had the same amount of money, then money wouldn’t be worth anything.”
“Capitalism must go,” she said. In that same video she said, “revolutions involve violence.” The background music said, “Ain’t nothing wrong with that.”
The district ignored multiple requests for comment about her quote on violent revolutions and whether they support the rhetoric.
Regarding the pro-Black Lives Matter riots, Rothstein said, “There are so many a******* in my comments saying, ‘What about all the burning of the buildings, and the looting and the rioting?’ Why do you care more about buildings than human lives? It’s like you’re stomping around, being like, ‘All buildings matter.’ No, no, they don’t. And the fact that you don’t understand where the rage is coming from, why there is so much rage of burning buildings, that’s the exact problem.”
“I am fcking angry, and it’s weird as fck that you’re not. When I’m talking about the patriarchy or racism or police brutality, why the f*ck would you not be angry?” she asked.
She went on to say that “boys should get vasectomies at birth, or when it is safe to do so… Why is preventing pregnancy just on the woman?”
The teacher has posted that being “silent on Palestine” is “rooted in White supremacy.”
She has also said that “all White people experience White privilege” and that they cannot be oppressed.

Jimmy Kimmel once again proved to be ratings poison, with Sunday night’s Oscar telecast drawing a pathetic 16 million (give or take) viewers.
Regardless, Roger Friedman is embarrassing himself with his “Oscars are Back!” headline. How could the Oscars be back when last year 16.6 million tuned in, and that was a catastrophe—when that was the second-lowest viewership in Oscar telecast history?
How could the Oscars be back when it was deemed a humiliation when only 23.6 million tuned in back in 2020? Until the Woke Nazis infested Hollywood, the Oscars hit between 30 and 40 million viewers without breaking a sweat. Are we really going to grade on a woke curve where 16 million viewers means the Oscars are Back!.”
I can’t find it now, but one of the bootlicking trades said the Oscars would be in serious trouble if last night’s telecast failed to attract 20 million viewers, especially with two of the biggest hits of the year up for Best Picture — Avatar: Way of the Water and Top Gun: Maverick.
Because Hollywood, the Oscars, and that smug little N-word-spewing-blackface-wearing Jimmy Kimmel are so loathed by 95 percent of America, the insulated bubble of lies the entertainment industry uses to live with itself will attempt to now lie to itself about 16 million viewers being some sort of triumph.
And the Oscars suck…
Because most of the movies suck.
People and real Americans enjoyed Elvis, Avatar 2, and Top Gun: Maverick. And last night, those three movies — the only ones normal people enjoyed — won none of the major awards.
Oh, the Oscars used Top Gun: Maverick to advertise the telecast, but the American people could not be hoodwinked into wasting a precious Sunday night to watch once again a bunch of pretentious, anti-art, anti-human-nature movies no one has watched—not even for free—take home all the gold.
Plus, there are no stars to gawk at anymore.
Why did we use to look forward to the Oscars and tune in by the tens of millions? Because we loved Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal. Because movies we enjoyed actually won. Because it was a night of glamor instead virtue signaling, a night of gratitude and humility instead of attacks on half the country.
Those who did tune in last night were exposed to an admitted child groomer winning Best Director.

Silicon Valley Bank had 17 branches in California and Massachusetts. The main office and all branches of Silicon Valley Bank will reopen on Monday, March 13, 2023. The DINB will maintain Silicon Valley Bank’s normal business hours. Banking activities will resume no later than Monday, March 13, including on-line banking and other services. Silicon Valley Bank’s official checks will continue to clear. Under the Federal Deposit Insurance Act, the FDIC may create a DINB to ensure that customers have continued access to their insured funds.”
As of December 31, 2022, Silicon Valley Bank had approximately $209.0 billion in total assets and about $175.4 billion in total deposits.
The bank may be able to pay most of the depositors. At the end of the year the bank was $30 billion in the black.

A bank ‘asset’ is often (or usually) a loan to someone. Around 1/2 in this case. For all the talk of long treasuries, they sure have a lot of mortgage-backed securities. Maybe that’s the one to keep an eye on.
I’m not familiar with the way these things spin out, but suspect that the government will nearly immediately pay the depositors and somehow take ownership of the loans. Some sort of hybrid business (gov/priv) until the books clear maybe.
The DEI angle is interesting, and utter insanity of course, but the part to watch is the ability for bank runs to occur now. Fast money transfer, fast rumor transfer.
Naturally, it doesn’t help for the government to be run by wastrels, you can count on inflation paying the bills, but (to me) just looks like potential energy in the system. The kick-off is always surprising.

I can only go by what the govt says and what it does. I’m not talking about depositors getting back insured funds. I’m talking about the govt claiming that:

If the bank is bust, where does the money past the 250k limit come from?
Think about it.

Now, that is a thing that makes total sense.
I wonder if there’s a word for the financial version of ‘lawfare’. None of this mattered all that much, aside from periods like the US Civil War and the FDR Monarchy, until government got it’s mitts into every little thing. What isn’t owned is controlled somehow.
People always want to steer funds to their Special Friends, be it Pfizer or BLM, so the trick is to not allow access. The problem is when they have the ability and will to punish. Such is government, especially when the bureaucracy is waging a sort of holy war on just reg’lar folks. Biden is soon to show solidarity by wearing gigantic prosthetic breasts on national television.
The tricky bit is predicting when things get friskier. Nothing lasts forever, not even civil authority, and some sort of cyclical financial crash is baked into the cake. Sticking fingers into dikes, even in California, can’t indefinitely delay the thing.

What got my attention about SVB is not merely uninsured accounts would be made whole, but the LINES OF CREDIT would continue for the bank’s customers! I have often asked how to these start ups make money and the answer is they do not. They live off lines of credit. There are 1,000 start ups that would not make payroll this week if their lines of credit from SVB were cut off. This has nothing to do with the FDIC making depositors whole above and beyond the $250k deposit limit.
SVB bankrolls 61% of the small community solar projects. Let’s say for a hypothetical example Nevada City or SBC wanted to have their own solar generating plant for electricity. If SVB cut off funding for these small community projects that make no profit, it would set back the solar pie in the sky dream (nightmare) at least ten years. SVB funds start ups that do not make a profit.
Anyway, one facet of the diamond in the rough.

Lol. My friend in WY reported that the State has put out a notice to folks to quit calling about Guardian dogs out in the snow watching herds. Shepard dogs, goats, chickens, or whatever their charge is. They were bred to live in the hills and protect against wolves or intruders. They thrive everywhere but in hot weather. Usually stay out there 6 months at a time, then given a break. Must be animal lovers from CA passing through WY stopping and reporting Pyrenees mixes out there in the cold, lol. And they naturally are nocturnal and have a low metabolism so they eat surprisingly not a lot. If you want to punish them, bring Fido into a nice warm house.

I can’t say that I expect any different behavior. Truth is, the elite law schools are essentially the military academies for one side of the soft civil war that is going on. I suppose they’ll be less important if things got kinetic, but in the meantime they’re probably the most important bootcamp available to the Left.

Much ado about another nothing burger –
The Guardian reported that Biden continues to call on Congress to pass universal background check legislation but noted that he is not waiting on Congress. Rather, his executive order directs the AG “to take every lawful action possible to move us as close as we can to universal background checks without legislation.”
Biden also said his order “[calls] for an independent government study that analyzes and exposes how gun manufacturers aggressively market firearms to civilians, especially minors.”
He used the speech to renew his call for a ban on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines.
Ironically, Biden gave his gun control speech in Monterey Park, California. He did not mention that California already has every gun control measure he is pushing nationally, yet the FBI identified California as the number one state for “active shooter incidents” in 2021.

Not being able to pump your own gas causes strange behaviors, amirite?

I think my fantasy tale will involve newspaper editors, past and present, and lots and lots of pie.

Seriously, I used to laugh at people who moved purely to improve their kids K-12 education, assuming (like my own parents) that it didn’t make much difference. That’s all over. If you want to ruin your childrens’ lives, let the insane people get their mitts on them.
Like any good revolutionary movement, Team Blue and it’s struggle sessions are really pretty good at hiding in plain sight. It isn’t like you get much visibility into your local high school’s tendencies. Maybe the smart money is in getting a job overseas somewhere like Singapore, as the woke tendrils reach pretty far. Who knew we would be living in the age of the political activist school librarian?
The relatively fast imposition of revolutionary philosophies is an interesting thing to watch. My guess is that there’s a lot to be learned by understanding the spread of communism in Russia by a relatively small group, histories tend to concentrate too much on battles and a few major personalities. By taking over a few professions, teaching & journalism most notably, the leverage can be remarkable.
