I always amuse myself by looking at the PGE Outage Map. (I put up the link and typepad went crazy, but you can find it no doubt. Typepad is the World’s Worst Software after all).
Which would probably be less colorful if they showed who has power.
Then compare it with the folks up the hill in Truckee (Truckee-Donner Public Utility District).
Oh well, it is a foot and a half or two feet of snow or so. Too much for modern times to handle.
You could certainly argue that the local towns might up their game in snow removal if it looks like a more permanent situation. Betcha they’ve let their budgets really slide in that area as they found other good deeds to do.

Ah, the on-the-grid off-grid people. It’s just that they have a battery in their backyard that is periodically filled.
I wonder how fast a whole-house generator + heat/hot water/cooking can go through a tank, particularly when the truck can’t get there.
Gregory: How well is the Musknet thingie working when the snow is falling and falling?
On a slightly related note, I love how fast internet goes down when the power is out. I don’t have a landline, but I have a funny feeling that those uber-reliable wire-connected phones go right down with it.

And what about us propane users who are without propane?
Well, not exactlywithout… 10 days ago I checked the level in my 500 gallon tank and I as horrified it was down to 7% and put an order in for 200 gallons. Called them yesterday to see when the hell they’d be delivering it…
They’re delivering 7 days a week and couldn’t tell me. Now running the house on bottles meant for outdoor BBQs. Note to future self… don’t wait so long.

The current bit of interest in the ability to have enough energy to keep one alive and healthy in Nevada County might give pause to what few lefties are able to engage in reflection and thoughtful study to the current madness of electrifying everything.
As a long time occupant of that fine bit of earth, we lived well by using firewood as a heat source and propane for cooking and electricity for the fridge and various electronic bits. It served us well during the various snow-ins and blackouts but one wonders what the green-tards have in mind as a replacement. Solar panels produce nothing with a foot or two of snow on top and I found the wind to be far too intermittent to be a possible source of reliable energy. An electric vehicle as a backup works a treat for a day and then is dead and unable to provide any service even for it’s primary mission. Try walking to town in a foot of snow for 15 miles bringing back perhaps 35 lbs of supplies at best. No thanks.
It dovetails in an odd way with a series of cooking shows the wife and I have been watching. Rick Stein has done many cooking travelogs across Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, India, and South Asia. At absolutely no time in any country was electricity used for cooking. I’d love to see a green-weenie travel about with Rick and chastise all these cooks and different peoples and give them a good what for as to how they are ruining the environment. Only in North America and in parts of Europe do we see these scolds holding forth with their nonsense.
The civilized world is being torn down by the illiterate, the un-schooled, the zealots, and the crazed while they fail to present any sort of realistic alternative.
They are our doom and we should put a stop to them, although I’ll admit that civil means such as discourse, logic and facts are of no use.

Singh has provided prosecutors with a window into the political donations side of the FTX operation. He had given more than $9.3 million to Democratic candidates and committees since 2020, according to campaign finance filings. In the last election cycle, he donated $8 million. Among the largest recipients was Mind the Gap, a political action committee founded by Bankman-Fried’s mother that received $1 million from Singh in April 2021.
Last week federal prosecutors filed four additional charges against Bankman-Fried, accusing him of using FTX executives to make millions of dollars of political donations in hopes of influencing crypto regulation.

I saw snow flakes coming down for an hour twice since last Thursday, but they never stuck, not even for 5 minutes. I never lost power. Roads were at worse wet from rains, but mostly dry. If there was trees coming down and massive power outages or accumulation of snow or spin outs, you might have been talking about the Northeast. So far away. I missed it all. One of the advantages of living on the second range up from The Valley floor here in the inferno zone. All this talk about weather I could not relate.

Oh well, it’s always something somewhere. Things go wrong, people adapt.
It’s a bone to pick I have with This Modern World. The more things are actively designed, rather than grow organically, you tend to ask for trouble. In a lot of cases, really large systems spew forth from the genius of people in meeting rooms far removed from the thing-going-wrong.
That’s why God invented economists and whoever it is that runs California’s power fiefdoms. The guy in the meeting room feels compelled to do something clever on paper that screws us all in the end. As Scotto mentioned, the all ‘lectric home and all ‘lectric transportation system is prone to failure, brittle, doesn’t have much headroom built in. That same guy in the meeting room wants to get his mitts on your thermostat, IoT refrigerator/freezer, recharging car, a thousand other things, and make One Big Machine.
Bugs, cascading failures, fun for all.

I too was fooled thinking they would outgrow the foolishness of youth. I freely admit I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
“Some of the students at Stanford University demanded that last night’s event be canceled because I’m a “dangerous presence” and that, whatever it takes, I “must not be platformed.” They claimed that I’m a genocidal bigot and a threat to their safety, while they tore down flyers, set them on fire, and complained to anyone who would listen.
Now, a few years ago when these kinds of crybaby college students would start kicking and screaming because someone they disagreed with expressed a point of view they didn’t like, I (along with many conservatives) would say, “Just you wait. You’re going to get out in the real world and have a rude awakening because, in the real world, people aren’t going to put up with this nonsense. You won’t be able to get away with your temper tantrums in the real world.”
It turns out that I was the one who needed a rude awakening on that point. I’ve since realized my faith in the real world was misplaced. As it turns out, the institutions running the real world are very eager to continue indulging the self-centered delusions of full-grown adults. They’ve indeed created a society that is structured around that goal. If you wish to hide from reality and live a coddled, self-centered existence, totally focused on your own desires and need for affirmation, the real world is more than happy to accommodate you. That’s the reality.
To those students who tried to get last night’s event shut down, I just want to state that I am sorry that you think you could get your way through that kind of emotional manipulation. I am sorry that you’ve been told that the world will always bend to your whims. But you can’t always get your way. At least not this time. Not with me.” Matt Walsh.

Loyola University Chicago’s medical school has dropped requirements for an internship that would have barred white and Asian applicants, following an investigation.
Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine recently removed a portion of an internship application that required applicants to identify as “African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaska Native, [and] Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.”
The Department of Education told Morgan that they dropped their investigation into the Stritch School of Medicine on February 17th, Morgan explained during an interview with Campus Reform.
Meanwhile, Marcela Sanches-Aguila, a supervisory attorney for the Office of Civil Rights, confirmed that the office was investigating the Stritch School of Medicine in January. Morgan explained that the race-based requirements had been removed from the internship application the following week.
Breitbart News has investigated the health equity movement, which seeks to embed the core tenets of Critical Race Theory into the medical and healthcare fields. One investigation from Breitbart News found that Health Affairs, which describes itself as “the leading journal of health policy thought and research,” hosted a “health equity fellowship” that discriminated against white applicants.
A section titled “application eligibility” had to “identify as American Indian/Alaskan Native, African American/Black, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, and Hispanic/Latino.”

One would expect a senator or president to be ABLE to do the job or quit but if not for double standards the left would have none and toss in a little lefty xenophobia –
She continued, “But by placing blame on the wives, these commentators get to spread harmful messages against the president and senator while having plausible deniability against charges of ableism. The commentators are not — heavens, no — throwing mud at these poor men. They are merely scolding the women who should know better. It’s ableism, with a little sexism, as a treat.”
Hesse herself has attacked wives and women in past columns.
In 2019, Hesse penned an article attacking Ivanka Trump for failing to change her father Donald Trump or speak out about his “behaviors and fitness for office.”
“She is the single person on the planet whose public approval or disapproval of her father could possibly matter – to him, or to his supporters,” Hesse wrote. “If she wanted to be thought of as a serious person, as a hero rather than a passive villain or cipher, she could have impact where she actually could have unique, meaningful impact.”
In Dec. 2020, Hesse also published a column criticizing First Lady Melania Trump for her “very, very cold” and “perplexing” Christmas decorations every season. In Dec. 2019, she wrote a more lambasted article questioning whether Melania was “sending coded messages” in her public appearances.
Former New York Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald went so far as to attack Melania as a “foreigner” after renovating the White House Rose Garden in 2020.
“It is a destruction of our history, something no other First Lady would have had the gall to do,” Eichenwald tweeted, “This is the first time I have been furious that @FLOTUS is a foreigner. She has no right to wreck our history.”

Lol again: Well yeah, bet you did not care about whether the road was county maintained when you bought the place.
5:09 p.m. : A caller from Manion Canyon Road requested the road be plowed, stating several families were stuck. The caller was very upset. Per county roads, the road in question is not county maintained.
People are dying up there!!!!!

I Feel sorry for the newer residents of Manion Canyon Road, unclear on the concept of “end of county maintained road”.
It hasn’t snowed much in recent years.

re: Manion Canyon
Looking at the maintained road list on one hand and googlemaps on the other, it seems like none of those roads hooked to Greenhorn up there get county plowage. That’s quite a lot of people.
The woe I’m struck by are the people with snow load issues in trailers. Assuming there even is some kind of engineered code for the things, it can’t be much.
Of course, if you want real fun, check out Mammoth Lakes footage on youtube. Insane.

There’s a parable there somewhere. Something about being nice to dispatchers.

The county with all its resouces are extracting the elderly who are in trouble. Be it snowcats, snowmobiles, or walking in themselves on impassible roads to get the elderly without food or gas for generator or firewood out, even if its on a “gurney” strapped behind a snowmobile or side by side. Now the Sherriffs are not taxis, but some are dropped off at the Rood Centerto get them out of elements and dry to make arrangements with famiy or friends to come get them.
Mattet of life and death first priority. Period. There wad one lady to called to say one end of her trailor was collapsing. Dispatch asked if she was ok and she was. The lady was told to move to another part of her abode since it was not a matter of life or death. Lady got upset and hung up. Saving lives is top priority at this time, not fear of the unknown.
Which brings me to the petson that demands Manipn Canyon be plowed. i have followed Greenhorn Rd for a few days. From impaasible, tp plowed only to a certain spot, tp closed again to get PG&E in, to more trees coming down across the road, to car spinouts blocking roads, to tow trucks unable to get it…..well, it begs the question in.my mind that even IF the county plowed Manion Canyon, would the upset caller be able to get out on Greenhorn up to top at Brunswick without a high centered 4×4 truck with knobby 20 inch tires and chains? Not everybody has a custom build rock crawller.
i once lived on Jones Ridge road and had to chain up just to get out of the mud. My 4×4 truck at the time pushed through snow with the front axle. Reading that even 4×4 trucks are getting high centered! sucks. May moons ago. Heeard they have power up there now. wow!
They say the only difference betwwen a 4 wheel drive and a 2 wheel drive is with a 4 wheel drive you get stuck farther out.
