fish: “Joe Biden took a night train to Ukraine to prove he is not cowed by Vladimir Putin | Opinion”
“Secret Agent Man “Joe Biden” turned up in Kiev Monday morning after landing in Poland and riding an overnight choo-choo train across the Ukraine frontier to avoid the hazardous pomp of landing Air Force One in a war zone. One might try to guess the message Victoria Nuland sent her errand boy to deliver. My guess is that “JB” was there to tell Wolodymyr Zelensky the USA stands behind him one hundred percent — an obvious whopper — being exactly the opposite of the developing reality that, short of setting off nuclear Armageddon, there is really nothing the USA can do to prevent Russia from concluding our ill-conceived project on its own terms. Who better to deliver an arrant falsehood than the master, “Scranton Joe,” he who once battled and vanquished the tyrant Corn-Pop!”

I admit that as Commander in Chief, Joe Biden makes my nether regions tingle.

Didn’t read the article. Don’t care.
My interest in ‘professional’ news, now all op-ed, is basically nil. It’s all just pro wrestling.
Shit, now you’re making me look up this Don Lemon guy again:
“Lemon argued that Haley, 51, “isn’t in her prime.”
Lemon attempted to support his argument by saying that a woman is only “considered to be in their prime in 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.””
So?
I see that he had to grovel like crazy to keep his job for an innocuous comment. Remind me again where the cancelling comes from.

Seriously, he’d make a perfect Secretary of State as elected by Nevada County. A brave and stunning person. If Buttigieg can be the Secretary of Transportation, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the nuke office can rise to the occasion.
I can just see him at the Kremlin having some tea with Volodya. The Russian leader can bring his Labrador that scared the bejeepers out of Merkel, Secretary Brinton can bring some of his young-men-in-dog-suits.

Those darn CRTs again-
A class action Settlement has been reached with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation involving Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs), a main component in TVs and computer monitors. The lawsuit claims that Mitsubishi Electric conspired with other CRT manufacturers to fix the prices…. is in addition to the previous nine settlements reached with Defendants Chunghwa, LG, Philips, Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung SDI, Thomson, and Technologies Displays America.
It’s great to know that NO U.S. manufacturer of CRTs was part of the settlement.
What’s that – no one here even MAKES TVs anymore? When did that happen?
Though Zenith closed its TV line in 1993, they were shrewd – they kept the copyright on the ‘CRT’ acronym.

DEER PARK, Texas (AP) — Toxic wastewater used to extinguish a fire following a train derailment in Ohio is headed to a Houston suburb for disposal.
“I and my office heard today that ‘firefighting water’ from the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment is slated to be disposed of in our county,” Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said in a Wednesday statement.
“Our Harris County Pollution Control Department and Harris County Attorney’s have reached out to the company and the Environmental Protection Agency to receive more information,” Hidalgo wrote.
The wastewater is being sent to Texas Molecular, which injects hazardous waste into the ground for disposal.

The kakkler in chief cannot even lie well but the wokesters lap it up and they hope the regular folks will not believe their lying eyes on their energy bills –
“For working families, we have reduced heating and electricity bills so folks have more money in their pockets to buy things like schools supplies, replace the dishwasher or take a family vacation,” the vice president remarked during a speech in Maryland.
However, experts said the comments were inaccurate and noted that utility prices for most Americans have increased since President Biden and Harris took office in January 2021. They also slammed Harris for being “completely out of touch” and appearing to mislead Americans on the administration’s track record.
“I’m not aware of anywhere in the United States where electricity prices or heating prices have gone down,” Steve Milloy, a senior legal fellow at the Energy & Environment Legal Institute, told Fox News Digital in an interview. “Energy prices generally have gone up. Oil prices, gas prices, everything.”

There’s nothing like a train wreck to bring out the goobers, ambulance chasers, and hucksters.
Meanwhile the Dems who usually swoon over a gallon of spilled diesel are waving off a massive toxic spill as no big deal. “Hey – those fish were all going to die someday anyway”.

The U.S. Has Billions for Wind and Solar Projects. Good Luck Plugging Them In
Plans to install 3,000 acres of solar panels in Kentucky and Virginia are delayed for years. Wind farms in Minnesota and North Dakota have been abruptly canceled. And programs to encourage Massachusetts and Maine residents to adopt solar power are faltering.
The energy transition poised for takeoff in the United States amid record investment in wind, solar and other low-carbon technologies is facing a serious obstacle: The volume of projects has overwhelmed the nation’s antiquated systems to connect new sources of electricity to homes and businesses.
And when companies finally get their projects reviewed, they often face another hurdle: The local grid is at capacity, and they are required to spend much more than they planned for new transmission lines and other upgrades.

It’s funny what makes sense in a meeting room somewhere when the non-profit and the government brothas fist bump and decide your future. It’s the energy version of the great minds that decided to go to war with Russia.
It’s pretty obvious that the California model is to whiteboard up an elegant plan that pushes off the expense. New houses will have solar, batteries, all-electric, thermostats you don’t fully control. New cars will be EV, used as batteries for the grid, spy on you and be remotely shutoffable.
It all requires regulation rather than a marketplace. It’ll all be designed by some guy who bicycles from the Starbucks to his taxpayer-funded sinecure. Old systems will be torn down before new ones are in place.
It’s all good.

Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses
https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full
“We included 12 trials (10 cluster‐RCTs) comparing medical/surgical masks versus no masks to prevent the spread of viral respiratory illness (two trials with healthcare workers and 10 in the community). Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of influenza‐like illness (ILI)/COVID‐19 like illness compared to not wearing masks (risk ratio (RR) 0.95, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.84 to 1.09; 9 trials, 276,917 participants; moderate‐certainty evidence. Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of laboratory‐confirmed influenza/SARS‐CoV‐2 compared to not wearing masks (RR 1.01, 95% CI 0.72 to 1.42; 6 trials, 13,919 participants; moderate‐certainty evidence).”
“The pooled results of RCTs did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection. “

8/17/2020 is when CRT was first brought up on Fox, by Chris Rufo, who stated “The goal is to have the public read something crazy in the newspaper and immediately think ‘critical race theory’.
We have decodified the term and will recodify the term to annex the entire range of cultural constructions that are unpopular with ‘Americans’.
If you want to see public policy outcomes you have to run a public persuasion campaign .”
Remember this is the summer of the George Floyd protests, BLM, so CRT is nothing more than a reactionary fiction by white guys unhappy about minorities standing up for their rights and people supporting that in general.
Rufo himself states CRT is whatever is unpopular culturally that people want to decide.
It appeals to the rights existing prejudices.
And like I stated, no one was talking about it online before Rufo was on Fox, and that aligns with your statement that you’ve been talking about it

Boeing is broke, or Boeing is part of the welfare industrial complex, or both?
“Under a Funded Space Act Agreement, Boeing will work with NASA to build, test, and fly a full-scale demonstrator aircraft and validate technologies aimed at lowering emissions.
Over seven years, NASA will invest $425 million, while the company and its partners will contribute the remainder of the agreement funding, estimated at about $725 million. As part of the agreement, the agency also will contribute technical expertise and facilities.”

Awww…look! Shannon just got him up from his nap and he’s ready to give it to those “mean boys” but good. And who cares if Boeing is broke? I mean sure….they can’t shit out welfare babies like you guys prefer but they still make pretty good aircraft. Besides….if they don’t give it to Boeing they would just give it to the newest dying industry with their begging bowl held out…..Journalism…..and lord knows, nobody wants that.

Hey look they are scrapping their woke requirements. –
The University of North Carolina (UNC) moved against encroaching woke culture and voted to ban diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statements and politically preferential hiring.
UNC voted to ban DEI statements and compelled speech from admission, hiring, promotion and tenure at its Board of Governors meeting Thursday.
The board stated the university “shall neither solicit nor require an employee or applicant for academic admission or employment to affirmatively ascribe to or opine about beliefs, affiliations, ideals, or principles regarding matters of contemporary political debate or social action as a condition to admission, employment, or professional advancement,” according to the resolution. An employee or applicant also can’t “be solicited or required to describe his or her actions in support of, or in opposition to, such beliefs, affiliations, ideals, or principles.”

Don T – “8/17/2020 is when CRT was first brought up on Fox, by Chris Rufo…”
I’m afraid I missed that thrilling episode as I rarely ever watch FOX.
Even better:
“…so CRT is nothing more than a reactionary fiction by white guys unhappy about minorities standing up for their rights and people supporting that in general.”
Wow – I’ll bet the folks writing about it and discussing it years ago would be somewhat surprised to hear that! Here’s one example published in 1996:

A bit long to hold the attention span for our educated moral betters……
‘Heidegger’s Downfall’
On April 21st, 1933, the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, then famous as the author of the 1927 philosophical treatise Being and Time, gave one of the most famous speeches delivered by any scholar living in the dictatorships of the 20th century. It was titled, “The Self-Assertion of the German University,” and it called upon students at the University of Freiburg to abandon objectivity and academic freedom and instead join the “spiritual mission which impresses onto the fate of the German Volk [people] the stamp of history” while the “moribund pseudocivilization” of the West “collapses into itself.”

Shorter article. Last paragraph:
“But the backlash against language policing, and the fluidity of language itself, show that political life is never that simple. There have always been progressive bureaucrats who evince an illiberal desire to stamp out disagreement, but the Great Awokening is also a story about how entire swaths of the intelligentsia—despairing of, or simply too self-important for, everyday political action—have instead placed their faith in sorcery.”

The obsessive policing of language in the name of progress relies on magical thinking.
