   In 2019, researchers at Oxford Economics found that for every $1 billion given to a China-owned corporation to build rail cars, some 3,250 to 5,100 American jobs are lost.    “Sulzberger defended his newspaper’s coverage of transgender issues. He specifically mentioned reporter Emily Bazelon, the author of a 2022 feature that delves into divisions within the medical community regarding gender transition therapies for youngsters.
   The publisher defended Bazelon, who has come in for criticism from activists who claim the article promotes an “anti-trans agenda.”
   Sulzberger praised Bazelon for her work, which “empathetically examined the debate within the medical community over treatment for trans adolescents.””

   I love modern times, they’re funny as hell. The normalization of mental illness, a President with dementia, the deification of black rioters, metastasizing DEI Bureaus, men-in-dresses uber alles, crazy political belief systems taking over boardrooms. The perfect storm. Occasionally someone shows up here and bitches about YOU GUYS LOVE TRUMP!!!.
   It could be that something better grows from the wreckage of Western Civilization, but it’ll take a while. It could be that our only hope is robot overlords, but the crazy people have their mitts into that one too. In the meantime, lie back and think of England.

   I was considering the continuum of vehicles that are out there. People think of AWD as magic, but it sure doesn’t take much snow to stop your Audi. Real deal winter tires vs. ‘all-season’ (ie. good at nothing). How most 2 wheel drives are actually 1 wheel drives. How the area is full of retired people living on a tributary of a tributary of a road 5 miles from town who are screwed when it snows, Sno-Cat needed to go to the coffee shop. Bet there’s a lot of houses for sale this summer. Area full of unpushable, too-large SUVs with 3-4 tons of road-hugging weight. AWD Teslas, range declining due to cold, range declining due to outage, end up as a shed on your property. Lotsa perfectly useful bad-weather vehicles, Polaris, Kei trucks, etc. not allowed on the road ‘because they’re not safe in California’. It’s a funny old world.

   Sorry about this post if it is repeating a past one but been shoveling snoww and haven’t kept up. Yesterday just got four days worth of the union at once. Went to read the comics and lo and behold, Dilbert is gone. Personally, I read the comics to laugh and don’t give a rat’s ass about the author’s politics. Sorry Union, but this is a BIG MISS and the stupidest move I’ve seen in a long while. I know, this should have been posted in a previous thread, but maybe everyone should call the Union about censorship. I know I will on Monday morning. Hopefully, Mrs. Rebane can note this as a MISS in her editorial group, though they may censor her and not print it. As Dr. Rebane said, “stupid in residence.”

    A critical race theorist and professor demanded that Black people should get special bereavement leave and counseling services in order to deal with issues relating to systemic racism.
    Angel Jones is a visiting professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville whose work is grounded in critical race theory and critical race feminism.
    Jones argued that Black faculty should be granted special paid time off and mental health therapy to deal with events of alleged police brutality in an article published in Times Higher Education on Feb. 23.
    Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether she supported bereavement leave for all minorities in oppressed categories.
    She called campus-wide statements to students in the aftermath of racial events in the news as “obligatory” and “performative,” adding it didn’t go far enough to address Black faculty’s “trauma,” which they need to “process.”
    “Where are our counseling services? Where is our grace for missed meetings and deadlines while we mourn? Yes, we have jobs to do and students to support, but we also have trauma to process.”
    In order to deal with “racial battle fatigue,” the professor said funding should be allocated to the mental health of Black staff.
    We experience these symptoms on a regular basis as a result of our first-hand racial trauma,” she said. “Free counseling services, by culturally competent counselors familiar with identifying and addressing [racial battle fatigue], should be available at all times.”
    Bereavement on the basis of race requires a day off, an ability to work from home, a deadline extension and to have their workload reassigned. Including these benefits will help “for the retention of Black faculty and staff.”
    “Don’t assume you know what they want or need just because you read this article. Anti-Blackness is intentional, so your efforts to combat it must also be,” she said.
