   Does anyone know what was happening on Hwy 49 east of Coyote Street yesterday from about 4:45PM?
   The 49 was blocked off… we were coming home from a trip to Reno visiting family. Traffic was at a standstill. I turned around to get home via Grass Valley, but have not seen a thing in any of the local news media.

    That the 2020 election was highly irregular is beyond reasonable dispute – the published evidence of that fact overwhelms. The only dispute remains over how much these irregularities affected the election’s outcome.

    Well, it’s his blog after all. He’s certainly in the driver’s seat.
    When you are (a) determined to be an asshole and (b) have a single topic, it’s up to everyone else to respond or not. Luckily, he has everyone’s number and keeps the crazy flowing.
    If I were GeorgeR, I’d put up a ‘Trump’ topic and scooch any Trump posts to that area, at least until the man became pertinent again, if ever. It’s the right thing to do from an editor’s standpoint. If you’ve got the internet version of a crazy street person stopping by your business every day, it’s probably best to give them a special place to wax eloquent or you drive out the customers.

    While eating breakfast, I was considering the Paul Phenomena in the aggregate.
    To some extent, I think, the internet drives this but there’s also a veering of what catches the public eye.
    Now that news (and jobs like ‘News Director’) are opened up to anyone who wants to call themselves that, the old ways of long news apprenticeships are thrown by the wayside. What seems to sell now is a combination of being an edgelord (purposefully argumentative) and, more importantly, a concentration on people rather than mass behavior or ideas generally. Basically a souped-up gossip columnist. Is this due to easier distribution? A more feminine fascination with individuals rather than dry ideas? A slow burn of anxiety-dominant mental illness? I couldn’t say.
    Twitter, as something of the future (and present) of news is an interesting eye-opener. It mostly consists of several thousand of these ‘News Directors’ expressing a 240 character opinion on something, usually about a person, which is then responded to by thousands and thousands of low-value responses. Often, they have nothing to do with the topic but are merely the meanest thing that person can think of at that moment. A lot of it makes Paul’s Trump-stalking seem absolutely normal.
    It could simply be that very few people do things of value anymore. What is left is a kind of opinion Tourette’s that spills out when it just becomes too much.

    Not much of one, although he strikes me as a person who thinks in personalities. It’s like a historian who explains everything in terms of prominent generals..or like this mindless business of somehow connecting business cycles to the party of the President. The town gossip attempts to understand the world.
    Bummer that search is so bad on typepad, I’d put together a ‘best of’ Paul page where he says essentially the same thing one or two thousand times. Bad manners combined with OCD is a terrifying thing.
