[No doubt Jackson, MS (thanks for correcting my MI blooper) is also a shithole city under Democrat rule, and has been for decades.  Today’s water system breakdown is typical of how Soviet-style jurisdictions took care of their infrastructure with public monies going mainly into the pockets of corrupt politicians.  Today’s mayor of Jackson is Chokye Antar Lumumba, a proud textbook socialist who describes himself as a “progressive, socialist, and political revolutionary”.  Like with most of his ilk, maintaining a functioning infrastructure is not high on his governance to-do list.  Again, the overwhelmingly black residents of the city continue to bring it on themselves.  (more here) gjr]

Actually, Jean-Pierre is getting boring. Perhaps a topic that is of more interest to the Left, the Independents, the Right, the Green Libertarians, and to all great and small. It’s Green Day!
“The bottom line is that no transition from fossil fuels to “green” energy sources is under way, nor will it occur, ever. The green dream is not just a folly but a fraud. Those who perpetrate it, like Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Greta Thunberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and many others, are fraudsters who make Bernie Madoff look like Mother Teresa.”

“Politically, military professionals confront an extremely adverse environment characterized by the divisiveness of affective polarization that culminated in the first election in over a century when the peaceful transfer of political power was disrupted and in doubt. Looking ahead, all of these factors could well get worse before they get better. In such an environment, it is helpful to review the core principles and best practices by which civilian and military professionals have conducted healthy American civil-military relations in the past — and can continue to do so, if vigilant and mindful.”

    ……………
Well, my disinterest in press secretaries apparently did not last long. It’s a woman’s prerogative to change his mind.
There are Press Secretaries and then there are the ho-hum press secretaries. Tony Snow was great. Mark Levin had to have the factual answers to any questions hurled at him by during the AG Edwin Messe, including Constitutional matters.
There was Tony Snow, briefly. One of the best. Had the mind, the demeanor, the cadence, and the confidence backed by indisputable facts delivered with kindness.
Then there was the most diplomatic lady of all time who was former Sec of State George Shultz press secretary…er…State Spokeswoman.
    1). The Background: Tattoo Scandal
“In 1987, George Schultz made a trip to the Far East, visiting China, Korea and Japan. During this trip he was hounded by reporters regarding two scandals. The first was an inquiry into the United State’s involvement in selling arms to Iran. The second scandal involved a rumour that the Secretary of State had a tattoo of a tiger emblazoned on his butt cheek.
When pressed by reporters during his flight to China, Schultz joked that – considering he was under investigation regarding the whole Iran armament issue – he was at least entitled to keep some things secret.
As the group of reporters returned to their seats laughing, Schultz’s wife Helena asked what everyone was laughing about, only to subsequently confirm to reporters that the rumour of the tiger tattoo on her husband’s posterior was in fact true!
    Why a tiger tattoo?
The reason behind the choice of a tiger is reportedly linked to the fact that Schultz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1942. Despite going on to study for a Doctorate’s degree from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Schultz’s allegiance obviously lay with the Princeton Campus and its symbol: The mighty tiger.“
    2) The response. When Shultz’s press secretary was asked by the horde about the rumored tiger tattoo across George Shultz’s vertical smile, she replied, “I am not in a position to say.”

Do your own research: phasing out Fossil Fool.
Did you know that to charge every vehicle in CA (pretending today all registered on road vehicles in CA are electric), it would require twenty (20) additional nuclear power plants to be built in CA. Not little nuclear power plants, but 20 big ones. And it’s a fight to keep the solitary nuke juice facility we have now….temporarily.
I can’t speak for others nor the rest of you here, but I don’t see CA building 20 more nuclear power plants anytime in future, short term or not, by 2035 or 2050. That’s is not who we are. We stand for Frisco Values.
Charge ‘em up, buttercup and no more gas ovens to be sold in the Freedom State. Folks like me will have to rely on an electric oven and by electric furnace as my required two sources of heat for a FHA loan. 🙂

    Breaking News
Times of Israel publishes a brief AFP story under a headline that might be filed under Laughter is the best medicine: “UN watchdog says it ‘cannot assure’ that Iran nuclear program is ‘exclusively peaceful.’” Please make sure you’re sitting down before taking this in:
The UN’s nuclear watchdog says it cannot guarantee the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, saying there had been “no progress” in resolving questions over the past presence of nuclear material at undeclared sites.
In a report seen by AFP, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was “not in a position to provide assurance that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful.”

WITHOUT FUTURE ADO, the Hits & Misses section of the Union has become the new comment section as predicted. Can ever hear echoes of Kenny Johnston and his Donnie Jr. or was that Kenny Jr? No matter.
Just trying to help those kids out in the audience who cannot afford a Union subscription or a ticket to see the new Star Wars movie. My intentions are noble:
MISS (from reader Richard Howell): Those folks, including members of The Union’s editorial board, who don’t understand the realities of the college debt forgiveness. We, as a country, need educated people to be able to contribute as adult citizens and workers. Even blue collar jobs are becoming increasingly dependent on technology and the skills to use it. The cost of a college education has outstripped income and the cost of living a hundredfold. We, as a country, must keep the door of opportunity open for as many as we can. Ninety percent of those benefiting from debt forgiveness earn less than $70,000 a year. They need the help to be able to establish themselves. The very same people who complain about student debt forgiveness think nothing of voting for politicians who line their own pockets and enrich the rich with loans, tax breaks, and “incentives’ that do nothing for the Americans who pay the bills. “The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” – William James
MISS (from Howell): Terry McLaughlin using diversionary logic to make a pitch for her chosen candidate. The sad history of California’s treatment of the mentally ill does not qualify Kevin Kiley to represent California in Washington. Neither does his campaign tactic of pointing to the many challenges we face in this state, implying that he, somehow, will “fix” them. Candidates of either party who have proven by their failure in office to advance solutions have no business remaining in office. Clean out your desks and make way for new candidates who at least offer possible solutions.
HIT (from reader Douglas Bianchi): SB 9, California’s new law allowing for more residential density, combines progressive and libertarian values. It is a rare opportunity for principled people to agree and work together across political divides. There are good things for everyone. For conservatives: Expansion of property rights by loosening restrictive and arbitrary zoning and planning regulations. For progressives: Making resources (i.e. housing) more accessible to those of modest means. For elders: The possibility of having caretakers nearby, keeping them in their family homes. For younger people: A place of their own. For everyone: A more vital community and economy. SB 9 is good for all of us.
MISS (from reader Doug Miller): As a long-time county resident and Union subscriber, I am somewhat embarrassed that I lack a clear understanding of the various local school boards and districts and their relationships. An article providing that info, and possibly simple maps showing the different trustee areas (both for the Board of Education and NJUHSD) would be helpful in researching candidates for the upcoming election. YubaNet provides some of this info as does the county election office, but my online searches end up drilling down through other sites and it’s a challenge getting a clear overall picture. Perhaps Terry McAteer, as a former superintendent and current Union opinion writer, could be enlisted in this endeavor.
MISS (from reader Charmian Railsback): How is it that Sen. Mitch McConnell always seems to fly under the radar with his obstructionist partisanship. In the 18 years I’ve been watching him, I am appalled by his “leadership,” his floating goal posts, his law changing tactics to suit his masters’ agendas. McConnell’s disregard and negligence of ALL his constituents, ALL Americans, in fact. Surely that is grist for the mill for some action against him. Truly a servile enabler for the 1 percenters. Continuing to deny that sedition occurred on Jan. 6, 2021, perpetrated by fascist elements bent on destruction. Is there no powerful entity/organization to address, legally, this awful man’s obstructionism?
MISS (from reader Shanti Emerson): Waste Management is no longer picking up garbage and recyclables separately. It is combining them in the same trucks due to short staffing. So now you don’t have to separate the two. They aren’t mixing yard waste with garbage. Whew! Should they charge us for recycling?
MISS (from Emerson): Lorraine’s lovely Lowdown missing from our paper. It was fun and positive and informative. We need her back!
HIT (from Emerson): Celtic Festival this Saturday in Pioneer Park.
HIT (from Emerson): The Onyx and Sutton Theaters the National Cinema Day Celebration offering $3 tickets to Saturday movies. I got to see a movie about a Nevada County favorite, Leonard Cohen, Hallelujah, a Journey, a Song.
HIT (from Editorial Board member Jo Ann Rebane): To Nevada City which, with Measure W, if passed will assert the city’s responsibility for zoning and land use decisions. Threats and intimidation coming out of Sacramento toward municipalities which find SB 9 a usurpation of local control invites Nevada City to join with those other jurisdictions to challenge the law in court.
HIT (from Editorial Board member Thea Hood) To Megan Dahle, state assemblywoman, who co-authored ACR 152, which designates Sept. 25, 2022, as Gold Star Mothers and Families Day. Gold Star Families provide support for mothers who lose sons or daughters in war.
HIT (from Hood): To Patti Ingram Spencer, candidate for supervisor of Nevada County District 3, for receiving full support and endorsement from the Nevada County Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

    Am I reading this correctly?
Hit to the Celtic Festival this Saturday in Pioneer Park? Is ‘Pioneer Park’ a typo?
My my, have the mighty fallen. I am old enough to remember back two years ago when the Celtic Festival was held at the fairgrounds over a weekend and was the biggest fundraiser for NPR’s local alternative FM radio station of the year.
Where are going to put all those fiddle lubbing campers? Not in GV I hope.
Who knows. Maybe it is just market saturation of music festivals right now. Paul is bizzy, bizzy, bizzy working on his upcoming Paul Emery Presents music shows, which may be in direct conflict with the White Man’s Fiddle Festive at Pioneer Park! Sorry KVMR, get another audio wire runner. Bizzy this year.
Or perhaps, Paul will do both the White Northern UK Festival and his own putting on the Blues ragee show. I dunno. Heck, it’s close enough he can just walk to Pioneer Park is parking becomes an issue.
Wonder if Paul had lost his “I’m with the Band” parking privileges for the Nevada City Celtic White People Music Non-Inclusive Festival. Well, at least they do look like us. 😉

Forget the Miner’s Foundry tonight. How much are the tickets for the white fiddle players from the non-continent Northern UK region? That’s what I am interested in.
Just a heads up, folks. Keep a eye on your billfold if going to the exclusive white man Celtic Fest. Those Irish maids are notorious pick pockets. Trust me, the ones I pick off the streets on Nevada City are. Every last one of them. Don’t be fooled and let your hair down too low. Be prepared. Just watching our fine citizens. And keep an eye out for those traveling Rasta Wannabes……and those with expired VISAs.
Good thing I don’t bring strays home no more.
Have a great show at the Miners tonight at 9:00 pm.
How much are the tickets for the Fiddle Fest and log throwing contest this year. There is something about men in kilts I find so rebellious. Like, stick it to the man kind of thing. Hey Punch, congrats. You are now the man you rebelled against. Go figure.
Get down and play that funky music tonight Pal Emery. Don’t forget to skim a little extra off the top to cover “production expenses.”

Perhaps the socialist dem plan is since they cannot deal with the crazy drug addicts on the streets and the jillions of 3rd world villagers flooding into the US that its all about their vision of equity.
They cannot do anything positive no matter how much they spend but drag down working citizens to the level of the jillions of villager sheep herders they are welcoming to create a level field of pain for all at the expense of your kid’s future.
They really hate citizens for their hard work and aspirations for a better future for their kids.

Kinda odd reading about Fish in the local fish wrapper. Besides capitalizing the F in fish, not bad fish, not bad.p:
“Daily wind patterns bring smoke north from the Mosquito Fire at night, then east, said Joe Fish, deputy air pollution control officer with the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District.
“It’s all about the wind,” Fish said, adding later, “That east-flowing, down slope wind brought it all to us.”
Fish expects the daily wind patterns to usher out the smoke each afternoon. He saw that happen Wednesday. An air quality index of 8 at midnight rose to 87 by 3 a.m., then hit 141 at its height, which is in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range. It was around 92 — in the moderate range — at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday before climbing to 114 just before noon. It was at 71 at 12:45 p.m., and then at 6 — in the healthiest range — by 2:30 p.m.
“It all depends on what happens with that fire,” Fish said.
Bad air quality can irritate people’s eyes and throats, as well as lead to headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, coughing and other effects. People are advised to minimize outdoor activities, even if healthy. People with respiratory issues should stay indoors, the air district said.
Fish advised people to avoid exercising outdoors when air quality is bad, as people will breathe in more particulate matter.
Properly fitting N95 masks can protect people from smoke particles. However, reusing them might reduce their effectiveness and make breathing difficult. Surgical and cloth masks aren’t effective because of smoke particles’ small size.” Yes
    ———
Hold on just one cotton picking’ moment. If we were told to wear surgical and cloth masks during the pandemic to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, how come ‘Joe’ Fish now says those Surgical and cloth masks aren’t effective because of smoke particles’ small size. What, Covid particles are much bigger size? Think I will go with fish on this one. Fauci and the CDC and Gavin kinda screwed the pooch royally when it comes advice on masks.

Don 10:28 – Gee, aren’t high energy costs great?
Of course they try to place the blame on Putin ignoring the fact that the US has more than enough petro to offset the loss of Putin petro. The funny thing is that the out put of Russian petro has not gone down. They are still pumping out the same amount as usual and selling it. So – where is it going? And since the price has gone up this helps Putin with financing his war.
This is a self-imposed problem due to religious fanatics and idiots following the diktats of the green weenies, most of whom are wealthy and immune from the effects of the disastrous policies that beggar our and many western nations.

The Mean Green High Fluting Machine is getting meaner and meaner. Well, at least we are moving back closer to our roots. Germany moving back to firewood and coal, I am moving back to candles…just like our ancestors. Anyway….
    RETURN OF THE ICE AGE
“European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for the implementation of “mandatory” energy rationing throughout the EU during peak hours in order to “flatten the curve” of demand amid the largely self-inflicted energy crisis befalling the bloc.
“Flatten the curve?” Where have we heard that before?
Up to three years in prison (Switzerland) for heating your home above 66.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Where I live, you would have to commit a murder to get three years. To be fair, though, they more likely will just fine you.
The saddest aspect of this story is that American leaders are following in the failed footsteps of the Europeans. We have the greatest petroleum reserves of any country on Earth, yet the Biden administration is ruthlessly suppressing oil and gas production in hopes of an impossible transition to unreliable, inefficient and ruinously expensive “green” energy.
And, while the Europeans foolishly turned something like 40% of their natural gas needs over to the Russians, the Biden administration wants the U.S. to be 80% to 90% reliant on the Red Chinese for our “green” energy. It is possible that, at some point in human history, a government has done something dumber, but I can’t think of an instance. One can only hope that, as the Europeans shiver through the winter, Americans will start to get the energy independence message.

Well Punchy (@ 10:19 am), you have repeatedly told us, “Remember, Trump has no friends.” for years now, so what else is new. What does Amy in Pacifica have to say? Maybe get a good quote from Roberta X Cross or Jose Koyote or Cheryl Cook and share it with us. What does Sally Yates have to say?
I could be wrong, but I am beginning to believe that Trump has no friend in you.
I could also be wrong, but the Dems do not seem very confident in their issues and candidates heading into the Mid-terms. They certainly do not act like they believe in their own hype as a winning formula.

I’m no supporter of Rivera or AG Barr. I’m just noting that they are now part of the growing by leaps and bounds movement to Dump Trump

Lol Gregory, but that’s what you are supposed to say after the queen dies even if they are “kissing cousins”.

“He’s just an example of a former Trumper that can’t do it anymore.”
Now Paul, we all recognize here, be it friend or foe, that you have been quite busy since Labor Day, hauling your equipment from your locally owned AMCE CONCERT RENTS shed to the Miner’s Foundry. So, because you may be unaware, I feel compelled to tell ya that the term ‘former Trumper’ in now out of style. Old school. Don’t want you to look silly and tell kids to play the record player and all that malarkey. Consider it handing you the peace pipe.
As of Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, Biden has renamed us ‘Trumpies’. Not Trumpers, but a more soft cuddly, even adorable sounding , name of Trumpies. It’s almost like being human again.
So, this Trumpy, being almost human, like a teddy bear, wants to be cuddled by you…but not the way you treated your former Trumper Ann Coulter life sized cut out. As in Toy Story, the toys talk. And Ann has been telling us Trumpies what horrible things you do.
Did you really strip down naked with Ann, put a fig leaf on her like in the Garden of Eden and then proceeded to burrow a hole right through that fig leaf?
Well, we trumpies are soft, not like a cardboard Ann Coulter. And most of us have more meat on our bones that Ann, blow up doll or not. Comes with age.
Anyway, Paul you are now back on the cutting edge of societal evolution.
Can I have a hug? Can I give you a hug? New rule: gotta ask first.

I wrote the 10:41 that you cite not psul Emery. I don’t know who that is or who you are as a matter of fact because you are so embarrassed about what you say that you won’t use your real name.

Don’t whine at me….it was one of the names you selected and said that you were to be addressed by.
That you couldn’t be bothered to proofread before posting is hardly my fault.
