Well, the cat is finally clawing its way out of the bag, bit by piece. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is beginning to admit that it has completely mismanaged the major pandemic of the 21st century. As numerous observers, analysts, and scientists have repeatedly pointed out over the last four years, the agency has “failed in its core responsibility, which is to track diseases, collect data to inform decision-making, and deploy resources to support local public-health responses.” Instead, it became the lackey of the evil Democratic Party which has long proclaimed itself as ‘the party of science’ and used the CDC as its willing political pawn.
CDC’s main mama, Dr Rochelle Walensky, can’t quite bring herself to admit the utter catastrophe that she launched with the aid of Dr Anthony Fauci, spiritual advisor who only spoke ex cathedra with words directly from God. America put up with their gobbledygook for almost four years, and continues in some measure to follow it today.
As data kept pouring in from all over the world that contradicted their various and varying policies dictating masking, social distancing, lockdowns, vaccination, boosters, etc, they remained steadfast in their own ‘science’ which supported the command and control stance of the Democratic Party hard on the heels of hunting Donald Trump.
So today Dr Walensky is busy “shuffling the bureaucratic deck with emphasis on action and equity”, finding fault with no one, and issuing a “diagnosis and prescription (which) are both wrong.” RR has long pointed out that science does not speak with but one voice, and rampant uncertainties exist in testing and therapeutics which need to be taken into account when making and reviewing policies. None of that has happened. All pronouncements of policy have been read from stone tablets by Walensky and Fauci in their original form, while ignoring the growing stack of discarded tablets that no longer served the purpose du jour.
Besides clearly side-stepping science, the CDC also ventured into new fields. “While failing at its core responsibility, the CDC has stretched its powers and mission. Consider a CDC study in May, which attributed increased gun violence in 2020 among young, black men in part to ‘longstanding systemic inequities and structural racism.’ Its suggested remedy: More government transfer payments.”
The Walensky/Fauci team became science unto themselves. Of the many studies and analyses they continued to ignore were about masks and lockdowns. “The states without mandates actually had slightly fewer Covid deaths per capita. International comparisons yield similar results. A Johns Hopkins University meta-analysis of studies around the world concluded that lockdown and mask restrictions have had ‘little to no effect on COVID-19 mortality.’”
In these pages we have presented data and analyzed the ‘excess mortality rates’ under differing Covid mandates. “Florida and Sweden were accused of deadly folly for keeping schools and businesses open without masks, but their policies have been vindicated. In Florida the cumulative age-adjusted rate of Covid mortality is below the national average, and the rate of excess mortality is lower than in California, which endured one of the nation’s strictest lockdowns and worst spikes in unemployment. Sweden’s cumulative rate of excess mortality is one of the lowest in the world, and there’s one particularly dismal difference between it and the rest of Europe as well as America: the number of younger adults who died not from Covid but from the effects of lockdowns.”
And here comes the crux of the matter – the tens of thousands of primarily young people who died of causes collateral to the lockdowns. These were mainly from drug overdoses and suicides. “Even in 2020, Sweden’s worst year of the pandemic, the mortality rate remained normal among Swedes under 70. Meanwhile, the death rate surged among younger adults in the U.S., and a majority of them died from causes other than Covid. In Sweden, there have been no excess deaths from non-Covid causes during the pandemic, but in the U.S. there have been more than 170,000 of these excess deaths.”
Even after evidence of such deaths and the ineffectiveness of lockdowns became known, the CDC and our federal government continued their insane mandates causing untold additional deaths and suffering. All these can be laid at the feet of the party of science and their bureaucratic mouthpieces. But when the dust finally settles, you can be sure that no one will be held responsible; moreover, no one will even admit that horrible mistakes have been made since Covid’s landfall in January 2020.
As the Covid disaster unfolded, the Democratic Party made sure that their constituency of national lackies in the lamestream and on main street kept up the constant drumbeat of accusing everyone who disagreed with their proscriptions and prescriptions of being Neanderthals and not ‘following the science’. Now they are silent while brooding about the next spate of big lies that will absolve them of any responsibility – after all, the whole thing was still Donald Trump’s fault. (Unfortunately, RR’s policy of open debate on all unsupported opinions and unfounded allegations also gave a platform for local loonies of the left to castigate more reasonable voices during the depth of the pandemic.)
“It was bad enough that Dr. Fauci, the CDC and the WHO ignored the best scientific advice at the start of this pandemic. It’s sociopathic for them to promote a worse catastrophe for future outbreaks. If a drug company behaved this way, ignoring evidence while marketing an ineffective treatment with fatal side effects, its executives would be facing lawsuits, bankruptcy and probably criminal charges. Dr. Fauci and his fellow public officials can’t easily be sued, but they need to be put out of business long before the next pandemic.” (more here and here)
[Addendum] Having meticulously followed science to advise and illuminate our Covid response policies, along with the legislation just passed, we now regird our loins with that self-same science for our country’s final charge into a carbon-free world, ferreting out and exhuming fossil fuels in whatever form they may still be promoted by climate deniers under the guise economic need and transition feasibility. As with Covid, we will brook no compromise on where climate science has unequivocally led us, no matter the howls from nay sayers. If we have to sacrifice humanity on the altar of saving the planet, so be it. Onward!
