[California’s 2021 population shrank for the second year in a row. (here) Our local leftwingers have continued to ignore this phenomenon in the large, and most certainly deny its most proximal cause that can be remedied by rolling back the atrocious tax and regulatory policies with which our one-party monopoly legislature has burdened the once Golden State, and continues to do so unabated. Reporting on this, the lamestream media (e.g. NPR) explains to its audiences that all this is due only to lower birthrates, Covid deaths, and not enough ‘immigration’ (aka influx of illegal aliens). Nowhere is mentioned the ongoing Great California Exodus of businesses and workers numbering in the hundreds of thousands annually. The state’s Democrats continue to count on their double dummy constituents to keep them in office and pay no attention to those behind the curtain who have put California at the bottom in about every measured QoL category. gjr]

U.S.-based think tank the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in its latest update on the unfolding war that Ukrainian forces have gained ground northeast of Kyiv as of May 11, forcing Russian troops “onto the defensive” and adding pressure for the Russians to seek reinforcement.
The ISW does not mention that Ukrainian troops have already advanced so much as to push back the enemy to the Russian border, but last weekend it declared that it could be a matter of days or weeks before that happens.
The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) wrote in its latest intelligence update dated May 12 that Ukrainian forces have recaptured several towns and villages towards the Russian border. It also confirmed that Russian troops were backing off and withdrawing units from the Kharkiv region to “reorganize and replenish its forces following heavy losses.”

About what?
The Chinese economy and military might are several orders above the Russians. Not saying they are invincible, but the Chi-Coms can incur loses far above what the Russians are experiencing and not bat an eye.
They do have to keep their volk in line and right now the natives are fairly well pissed off at the draconian measures the Chinese govt has imposed on the work force. If the Chi Coms do strike Taiwan it will be a blitz lasting no more than a few days. My 2 pennies.

The people who want elected gigs the most are often the worst choice, but it’s hard to overcome the singleminded drive of someone doing God’s Work while giving their ego access to the big microphone. A few words with she/her current coworkers would be interesting but unlikely to be available.
I imagine she/her will win. A bit of name recognition including lots of access to the local MSM lately combined with a ready-made constituency of activist harridans who see a fellow traveler is a pretty good leg up.
It should be interesting watching the shrieking for Sheriff’s Office security and appearances on larger news outlets if any Republicans poke their noses in the door. It’s like having your own Soros-appointed DA in Mayberry.

“It’s like having your own Soros-appointed DA in Mayberry.”
Full disclosure: scenes articulated in one sentence what I have been thinking for some time now in our one newspaper town. Clear, concise, complete. So, yeah, I am biased.
Heidi Hall came to town with a pic of her with Nancy as one of the Pelosi girls that completed their lib training. I have searched and searched for that picture the Union ran back then to no avail. Scrubbed clean, gone. All I found out was she hired a firm in Seattle to run the campaign. She worked for the State on the water quality board or State clean air folks…..
Charlie Brown ran for the Congressional District and was spotted sitting next to Pelosi at the place he was giving a speech p or debate in Auburn. After his defeat, Charlie Brown went to Washington to work for the Dems….er…..the Dem Administration in some department.
Guess Heidi Hall is smart enough to learn quick that this ain’t Sac and pictures of her and Pelosi may not have the desired effect she was seeking as an intro to the local public. Or did she know her constituents in her BOS district and that was a great icebreaker?
Out of town people with out of town donors. Adona IS like having a Soros backed DA in Mayberry.

from the 9:59PM Daily Quotes:
““The more I study the history of intellectuals, the more they seem like a wrecking crew, dismantling civilization bit by bit — replacing what works with what sounds good.” —Thomas Sowell”
It seems to me that it’s only a certain type of intellectual at work here. There’s a particular sort whose stock-in-trade is building scaffolds of language, perhaps an internally consistent word salad, that leads to a virtual world that needs implementin’. The fact that a)it collides with organically arrived at systems, b)it’s likely to be wrong, and c)is an emotional need justified with pretend-logic, never stops anyone.
It’s our own damn fault for funding these people, they could just as easily be spinning their stories on the transmission line at Chevrolet.
I was considering Soros DA’s and the interest for their installation. Aside from the naked attempts at power by aiding and abetting a street army, it seems to me that it hits smack dab into an interesting tension in society. It goes like so…simply put, you need to over-punish to produce relatively safe societies if you lack a well-behaved homogeneous culture with strong peer pressure.
So, you either have seemingly unfair punishment applied for street crime, should you jail someone for six months for shoplifting? Without it, you have industrial-scale shoplifting. It looks to moi that there’s really no workable compromise position between ‘fairness’ and effectiveness, especially when some groups are given a pass because of ‘historical injustice’.
Until the pendulum swings, I’d simply expect passive security measures to expand (fortresses in cities, or moving outside of them) plus private security pushing the boundaries of the law.

That seems fair. I would think that the newspaper got it’s information from the person favored by Diaz to do God’s Work and then simply jotted down what they knew.
There’s usually some mafia or the other backing any candidate for those jobs and if it happens to be a national one that’s just the nature of the times. Oh poo – too bad for you lefty haters. Turns out the Buffalo murderer is a lefty! A ‘green’ lefty!
The gov of New Yawk is plenty upset and lets everyone know she wants the tax payers to make sure he has a free meal ticket along with free medical and dental while he gets a college degree and enjoys sex for the rest of his life.
The feds want to kill him not because he murdered people but because of him offing people that are more important than you.
At least I haven’t heard anyone spout the “too many people killed” line so popular with dim-witted politicians. I’m always keen to hear what they believe the correct number of folks are you can kill before it gets to be “too many”.
The good gov is pretty sure that state censorship will do the trick:
“In the wake of the shooting, Hochul said her state is taking “proactive measures” to monitor social media platforms and called on internet companies to boost their monitoring of hate speech that “comes under the guise of white supremacy and terrorism,” including by hiring more people and changing their algorithms to more quickly identify hate speech.”
‘Proactive measures’
And those would be?
But only against ‘white supremacy’ – other violent extremists like Muslims are OK.
Say – what happened to the black dude that mowed down a bunch of white persons? Are the feds gonna kill him?
Nothing like equal justice under the law.

From what I’ve read so far, the Buffalo killer wanted to be a civil engineer like mommy and daddy but you need to be able to do thinking and logic and math and stuff but this poor bastard wasn’t up to the task.
He thought there were too many non-whites and apparently thought getting rid of 10 would be helpful?
A thorough examination of his life would probably be interesting. He was a loser and he knew it. May as well just kill a few folks you don’t know and be done with it. He was too cowardly to even have it out with the cops. If we are going to lower our freedoms down to where the bottom of society like this are safe from bad thoughts then we may as well tear up the Constitution. Mommy and daddy had their careers – they had no clue what they had raised.

The FED in Dallas kills the creepy grampa joe green narrative on gas prices –
The price of gasoline reached record highs this week, and some politicians, including the President of the United States, began pointing fingers at U.S. oil producers.
But what these critics fail to explain is the petroleum industry – from the well head to the gas tank – is a mixture of thousands of companies from coast-to-coast each segment providing different services to deliver a much needed product to consumers.
Two economists –Garrett Golding and Lutz Killian, both with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – authored a study this week explaining some of the reasons oil producers in the U.S. should not be criticized for higher gasoline prices.
“Independent oil and gas companies—those without refining assets—are responsible for 83 percent of U.S. oil production and about half of the oil consumed in this country,” Golding and Killian wrote.
“Oil is sold in competitive markets at prices reflecting global supply and demand. It is refined into gasoline, diesel and other fuels whose prices are similarly set in competitive markets.
