[Had a wave of nostalgia reading ‘The Last of the Afternoon Newspapers’ by Peter Funt. The last two are located in Livingston, Montana serving about 4,500 readers. During my 10-13 age in Indianapolis, I had two paper routes – first one in the city where I carried a large canvas bag of papers strapped across my shoulder, and second one in the suburbs where much bigger saddlebags were permanently on the back rack of my balloon tire Schwinn. As a kid I worked hard for the $5/week that sometimes was left over from my collections after I paid the Indianapolis News route manager for the newspapers I ordered and sold – every kid was a little businessman who was assigned a territory in which he had to market, deliver, and collect. Now here is one of those beware of what you wish for –
But lurking in the background is the long legal fight over DACA, the Obama-era policy of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. President Obama used his authority under the immigration laws to suspend enforcement against young people who were brought illegally to this country when they were children.
Trump moved to repeal that policy, but judges in California and New York put the repeal on hold. Lawyers for Trump argued the new president had ample authority to revoke a discretionary enforcement policy adopted by Obama.
Two years ago, however, the Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote ruled against Trump and blocked the repeal.
Now in the case of Biden vs. Texas, the justices will rule on whether the new administration is free to repeal Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy.
A decision can be expected by late June.

It normal for first term Presidents to lose big in the House in the midterms. Trump, Obama and Clinton as well as Bush Sr. had huge losses first midterms. Bush Jr was the exception but that was because of 9-11 which united the country.
I personally doubt Biden will run again. If he doesn’t I hope the Dems will have an open convention and not just hand it to Kamala like they did with Hillary. The Repubs have a huge problem with Trump and if they dump him he’ll trash the party on his way out the door.
These are only my opinions but that’s how I see it.

When asked what bears most of the responsibility for exploding gas prices, only 15 percent said Putin and 26 percent said the major oil companies. A majority of 51 percent blame Biden.
This next question is even more revealing…
When asked if Biden has “done enough to stop the rising price of gasoline, home heating oil, and other petroleum products,” a clear majority of 61 percent said no. That includes 35 percent of Democrats, 65 percent of Independents, and 53 percent of black voters.

re Gregory 5:36 – This is just another marker in Kali’s long stumbling road to ruin. I concluded years ago the state was past the tipping point and would never recover. It will, of course, suck the rest of the country down with it as the pain will be federalized to a high degree at some point. Witness the saga of the High Speed Rail scam – an endless morass that consumes money, produces tons of the green house gas it was supposed to reduce and provides zero value for the Kali taxpayer. It will continue forward into oblivion due to the fact that there are not enough adults left in the state to put the project out of its misery.

Administrivia re 800pm – The blogosphere is full of comment streams in which people are called all kinds of names. Unfortunately, RR has not been immune to that kind of behavior by its commenters. Many of us, including me, have suffered from many kinds of unflattering appellations. Besides the recent complaint of using ‘Psul’, commenters of the Right have also been dunned en masse as a ‘Circle of Jerks’. Given the nature of this environment, I am not about to start policing and/or censoring such name calling – it is just a bridge too far. Without wanting to sound too prudish, I will admonish all commenters for such usage, since IMHO it does not contribute to the quality of our conversations.
