[Had a wave of nostalgia reading ‘The Last of the Afternoon Newspapers’ by Peter Funt. The last two are located in Livingston, Montana serving about 4,500 readers. During my 10-13 age in Indianapolis, I had two paper routes – first one in the city where I carried a large canvas bag of papers strapped across my shoulder, and second one in the suburbs where much bigger saddlebags were permanently on the back rack of my balloon tire Schwinn. As a kid I worked hard for the $5/week that sometimes was left over from my collections after I paid the Indianapolis News route manager for the newspapers I ordered and sold – every kid was a little businessman who was assigned a territory in which he had to market, deliver, and collect. It was one of my early lessons about the real world of business. Have any RR readers had a paper route somewhere in their past? gjr]

How about some ham handed media manipulation to create a false narrative with deceptive editing. Here is the headline then the reality –
https://currently.att.yahoo.com/att/cm/trump-storms-fiery-piers-morgan-211540211.html
This is a pathetic attempt to use President Trump as a way to revive the career of a failed television host,” Taylor Budowich, Trump’s communications director, told Breitbart News. “It is also another example of President Trump being right, as he told Piers Morgan that the host was dishonest to his face, and Piers, for the first time in his life, didn’t disappoint.”
The 30-second clip that Morgan’s team released splashed across tabloids and media outlets, taking the lead spot across the Drudge Report with multiple links accusing Trump of having a “meltdown.” In it, Morgan splices several clips together that make it seem like as on-screen graphics and a deep male voice over says that Trump is a “former president in denial” over the 2020 election. The promo, which calls it “the most explosive interview of the year,” pulls a few short clips of Trump calling Morgan “a fool” and saying “this is very dishonest” and “let’s finish up the interview,” before showing Trump standing up and walking away and saying “turn the camera off.”
But that’s not what happened—not even close. Trump spent more than an hour with Morgan, and the way the promo clip cuts together what it calls “Morgan Versus Trump” moments to promote the interview which will air on this coming Monday night is particularly deceptive. Most of those moments had nothing to do with the election issue at all, and the full audio of the last bit of the interview shows that Trump standing up and walking away and saying “turn the camera off” came after Morgan ended the interview and thanked Trump for a “great interview.”

Looks like voter fraud does exist. Chack this out:
Mark Meadows claims to be SC resident ‘for good’ after registering in NC and voting in Virginia
“Meadows, who represented North Carolina for nearly a decade in Congress, came under national scrutiny following an article in The New Yorker alleging the Republican had registered to vote in the state at a mobile home he didn’t own. According to the publication, only his wife had visited the home, and no more than twice. In 2020, he used that address to vote as a North Carolinian in that year’s presidential election.
But Meadows was removed from that state’s voter rolls April 13 after documents showed he lived in Virginia and voted in that state’s 2021 election. The N.C. Attorney General’s Office is now pursuing its own investigation into the matter.”

Is this they type of “free enterprise” capitalism that you support? We are going to have rate increases to pay her salery.
“PG&E’s top boss captured a total pay package in 2021 that topped $50 million at a time when the embattled utility remained under scrutiny for a decade of disasters linked to catastrophic wildfires and explosions.
Patricia Poppe, chief executive officer with PG&E, harvested $51.2 million in total direct compensation last year, according to documents filed on Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.” From the Mercury News

Salaried compensation is typically directly proportional to one’s level of responsibility. Managing multi-billion dollar corporations involves great levels of responsibility that require uncommon skills and talents. PG&E generates revenues in excess of $20 billion. $50 million compensations amount to about 0.3% of those revenues. I don’t find any of the above to be reason to consider free-market capitalism unsupportable. Do you?

PaulE 1227pm – PGE is a state-controlled monopoly and far from being a capitalist business enterprise. As such, its business risk environment is greatly reduced and the revenue impacting decisions management has had to make do not compare with those of a corporation competing in an open market. PGE management jobs are basically a sinecure and form a recognizable part of our politically patronized nomenklatura. Every investigation into that energy supplier’s operations and field practices has revealed gross incompetence over the years, incompetence from which management has been immune.
MichaelK’s 226pm assessment holds for free-market capitalist enterprises, and would also hold for PGE were it in that category.

The Unhappy Lot kills off Tinkerbell as well as stories chief antagonist. Darn. Every good children’s story has a good guy, a good sidekick, and the evil villain. Well George and Michael PG&E is raising our bills to them and at the same time paying their exec over 20 Million bucks a year. They could at least be asking her to take some sort of proportionate reduction in salary. Never hurts to ask for her to take a cut in pay. PG&E is a publicly traded company. If the shareholders are not happy with compensation package of Patricia Poppe, chief executive officer with PG&E, then the shareholders are free to vote her out at the next shareholders’s meeting. If you want a direct say in the matter, may I recommend you buy a few shares of PG&E? Otherwise, you have no say.
Perhaps the PUC approved compensation packages for the hard working women (and men) running the company. PG&E can’t do squat without the PUC’s permission and authorization. Have you see the outrageous salaries the members of the PUC commission make….one the taxpayers’ dime? Outrageous. Otta be a law.
That really chaps my hide.

Paul – “Well George and Michael PG&E is raising our bills to them and at the same time paying their exec over 20 Million bucks a year.”
The PUC has to approve the increase, Paul. And PG&E has to justify the increase in rates.
Who runs the PUC in CA, Paul?
Dems or Rs?
How much of the ‘increase’ goes to executive compensation and how much goes to other expenses?
How much in actual pennies per month does Paul have to pay to PG&E to pay for executive compensation?
“I wonder what tax she pays if any.”
Why don’t you ask the folks at ProPublica?
They seem to have a direct line to the IRS files.
Who runs the IRS?
Do you think they are letting her not pay any taxes?
Why?
