Litmus test for autocracy – ALL autocracies actively proscribe ideas that are fringe to what the state prescribes as mainstream thinking.  Rebane Doctrine

The recent study from Johns Hopkins University unequivocally shows that lockdowns don’t work in reducing Covid-19 death rates. (here, here, and here) The mortality rate data for this also comes from around the world.  In the developed world state-imposed lockdowns have devastated economies, families, and individuals of all ages.  This pandemic will be studied for generations by historians, political scientists, and autocrats.

The impact of lockdowns has so many dimensions in the realms of their implementation and causal effects.  Most independent (i.e. not on the government tit) epidemiologists, economists, and other science-savvy analysts decried the lockdown policies from the start.  Only the central planning/control elites and ignorantly compliant local jurisdictions promoted the months of insane mandates handed down from on high that began in the spring of 2020.

FringeIdeas

Half the country is populated by those reliably labeled sheeple.  To the ruling elite these are the recipients of received wisdom known as ‘mainstream thought’, which is comprised of an ever-changing roll of diktats a la Orwell.  These people have been taught since grade school to unquestioningly accept and put to practice whatever and whenever Big Brother mandates.  No critical thought needed nor tolerated – such thought, being constituted of ‘fringe ideas’, is to be rejected as anti-social and dangerous, polluting the purity of state mandated groupthink.  To witness them, one need only go to the local shopping mall or read The Union.

The trained progressive has had excised from his education any notion that all benefits to mankind over the millennia have always been introduced as fringe ideas.  Mainstream thought has always been the home of thought-free compliant stasis and stagnation.  At no time in the last hundred years have we witnessed in the developed world a more complete practice of such mainstream thought than over the last two years – and the beat goes on.

So now we have the latest from Johns Hopkins that once more confirms what the greatly denigrated Barrington Declaration already told us back in the fall of 2020 (here).  That piece of work was endorsed by thousands of accredited scientists and medicos, and ruthlessly put down by our federal government and their lamestream lackies.  Hundreds of thousands more died needlessly and/or went bankrupt.

No recognition of, let alone apologies for the Big Lies were forthcoming, and no one today is holding their breath.  The dead and financially destitute are a price the leftwing elites were willing to pay for their great experiment in the fundamental transformation of America into a satrapy under a global government.  And you can bet that there’s more to come from the same team, still fully in control and totally insulated from any legal or public repercussions by a corrupt DoJ and judiciary.  According to those propagandists and their local true believers, Joe Biden has had a banner year since he was inaugurated.  And the Democrat devotees across the land still revere and believe in the gospel according to Saint Anthony of Fauci, the Beatified – “The fact that we shut down when we did, and the rest of the world did, has saved hundreds of millions of infections and millions of lives.”  (17 June 2020)

The tactic of ‘accuse them of what you do’ is a tried-and-true formula for shutting down any real opposition from the recumbent Republicans.  (Does anyone know on what are they spending their political capital?)  No better example of that can be had than the established fact that Russian appeasement has been a leftwing monopoly as once again illustrated by Victor Davis Hanson (here).  To this day lamestream outlets trumpet that Trump was the Great Colluder.

The political cartoonist is just showing, well, mainstream thinking. There’s a few year old wave of philosophy that wrongthink needs to be scrubbed from broadcast and internet media. I’m not saying something that everybody doesn’t already know. It isn’t like you’ll ever see a second newspaper either, this isn’t 100 years ago.
The super-slick angle to it, also obvious, is that the internet gives you mechanisms for bypassing the First Amendment and the court system built, in part, to enforce it. You merely nudge rightthinkers at internet monopolies to do your dirty work. It doesn’t have to be Facebook, etc., you can usually accomplish the same thing by using VISA, Paypal, Amazon Web Services, GoDaddy, Cloudflare.
It’s a darned good reason to kill off decentralized cryptocurrencies, you could really put the hammer down by controlling all cash flow to wrongthinkers.
Team Red put themselves in this boat to some extent by being pro big-business up until recently. They allowed monopolies and near-monopolies to form while allowing Team Blue to use the strong argument ‘Don’t you believe in private business? They can sell to whom they like’. Nothing Team Red believes in was allowed to become a protected group, so the vulnerability is near total.
I can’t say that it was all planned, but admire the genius of the situation.

Democrat Politicians Were Never As Afraid Of Covid As They Want You To Be
“Think about this the next time you fasten a useless, oxygen-depriving, speech-impeding bacterial trap to your helpless two-year-old. When you don the Covid talisman to go to church, attend class, enter a grocery store, watch a show, or board an airplane, reflect on how a disdainful coterie of officials have trolled Americans for two years.
They’ve been bleating about “flattening the curve” while they’ve been nonchalantly recreating, dining, primping, and preening, vacationing, partying, and clubbing in contradiction of their own fabricated and capricious public health edicts. Yes, they were being dishonest, hypocritical, and hierarchical. But most importantly, they were clearly never afraid of the virus, and you shouldn’t be either.”

    TRUCKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!
In recent years, we have seen a fundamental realignment in American, and Western, politics. After something like 200 years of purporting to represent the laboring classes, liberalism has been exposed. Most voters now understand that it is Republicans, and by inference conservatives, who speak for the working class. Democrats (liberals) are seen as the party of the would-be elites, who unfortunately aren’t elite at anything useful.
This is the context of Glenn Reynolds’ excellent New York Post column: “Truckers are starting a working-class revolution — and the left hates it.”
So we’re finally seeing a genuine, bottom-up, working-class revolution. In Canada, and increasingly in the United States, truckers and others are refusing to follow government orders, telling the powerful that, in a popular lefty formulation, if there’s no justice, there’s no peace.
    Naturally, the left hates it.
For more than a century, lefties have talked about such a revolt. But if you really paid attention, the actual role of the working class in their working-class revolution was not to call the shots — it was to do what it was told by the “intellectual vanguard” of the left.
Which is a problem when your intellectual vanguard is–to be blunt–stupid.
A working-class revolution led by the working class is the left’s worst nightmare because the working class doesn’t want what the left wants. The working class wants jobs, a stable economy, safe streets, low inflation, schools that teach things and a conservative, non-adventurous foreign policy that won’t get a lot of working-class people killed. It’s not excited about gender fluidity, critical race theory, “modern monetary theory,” foreign adventures and defunding police.

    An alternative theory, somewhat related.
Think of Democrats as being the party of high-density-living people and the Republicans less so.
A half century ago, a large cadre of working class people lived in cities, useful things were done in cities, cities were productive. With automation, the manufacturing move overseas, etc. what’s left in urban areas produces wealth, but it’s mostly overhead (the FIRE business) or symbolic (software, legal, government administration).
The urban working class was essentially killed off by an economic neutron bomb.

There is a current legal theory bouncing around that argues once the government encourages a private business to do as they say and the business follows, then that private business becomes an agency of the government. This was brought on by Peppermint Patty, speaking for the White House, directing Spotify what to do next.

As a practical matter, it’s hard to call. Too complex. As a moral matter the Russians certainly have a higher degree of self-interest involved than the US in Afghanistan/Iraq/Syria/Libya and the 100 other places the NeoLibCons love to place chess pieces.
My suggestion is to put Grand Admiral Levine in charge of US ‘defense’ policy, the Russians will lose their will to fight in all the laughter.

As far as Russia and Ukraine goes, I take a wait and see approach. Right now, there are no US troops in Ukraine. We are sending 8,500 troops to reinforce our NATO allies…our finest National Guard troops, lol. Denmark is sending two jet fighter to Bulgaria in April. Since Germany has no Air Force to speak of nor a standing Army, the Krauts are sending 4,000 protective helmets to Ukraine. Canada has sent 400 troops to the area.
Looks like we are defending our NATO allies, who in turn are preparing to defend a non-NATO country. Poland has stepped up and have sent misses to Ukraine. That’s about all I know at this point.
    ——
Oh yeah. Here is something about NATO. That’s all I got at this moment. Wait and see, speculation is just one person’s opinion so it’s kinda waste of time.
NATO’s “open door policy” is based on Article 10, which declares that NATO members, “may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European State … to accede to this Treaty.”
Moreover, membership is open to “any other European State in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area.”
Note that NATO admission requires “unanimous” consent of all 30 present members.
Blinken has often stated this as U.S. policy: “From our perspective, NATO’s door is open and remains open, and that is our commitment.”
What Blinken is saying is this: While America will not fight for Ukraine today, America remains open to Ukraine’s accession to NATO, in which event we would have to fight for Ukraine tomorrow, were it attacked by Russia.
What the U.S. needs to do is to say with clarity that while Ukraine is free to apply to NATO, NATO is free to veto that application, and the enlargement of NATO beyond its present eastern frontiers is over, done.“

Keach, there’d be a new study on mask use worth discussing if DANMASK-19 had been redone, not memory holed.
I’ve not been vaxxed but a vow to remain so is folly… there may be a new vaxx coming along that doesn’t protect against a now extinct variant. I got my Immunity the hard way, getting sick from the Alpha before the vaxx was made available.
If a vaxx worth taking comes along I will evaluate the benefits and act accordingly… but people getting ill now are pissed the vaxx did next to nothing to protect them from Omicron.
My natural immunity is holding up from my helping care of two generations sick with it.

Keachie: ““On masks, from 2016.” Oh right, no newer science or advisories are available on this topic. ”
If you had read the article (doubtful), it’s about the psychology of masks. I posted the date in order to underline that the article pre-dates the current political insanity that you are taking part in.
There really isn’t any newer science, they’re not particularly helpful. The better they are, the more restrictive with the inevitable issues for long-term use.
N95 masks, which do some good, are single-use, need to be well fitted and shouldn’t be worn for hours at a time.
Solution? Children have very low fatality rates, are bound to get the virus, masks are probably useless in the environment. If you feel better about it, being older and all, by all means wear one, just don’t expect me to not laugh at your bandana as being useless. Generally, old people should steer clear of bars, Paul Emery Events, etc. Masks outdoors are ludicrous due to ventilation and the effect of UV on viruses.
Generally, I’d say that the virus is going to do what it’s going to do. Lacking a real vaccine to artificially change the herd immunity level, it’ll have roughly the same epidemiology as any other big outbreak. If the offered injections lower the symptom severity (which they appear to), that’s great. I can’t say that shooting up kids does more good than harm.
    Have a nice day.

If you want to wear 3 masks in your car driving alone, go for it. I’m not going to criticize you for it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had the shot or 10. You can still carry and spread the virus and no – your stupid mask doesn’t do any real good.
My wife and I haven’t had the Woohoo Flu shot and we probably won’t. As long as the people that make the shot and the people that mandate the shot aren’t responsible for the negative side effects, then they obviously think there is a significant danger in getting the shot.

But of course. Put Randi Weingarten in the stocks in the public square. Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Randi Weingarten suggests not getting rid of masks until zero transmission in school
Weingarten that no one wants masks in schools, ‘not teachers, not students’
“The COVID-19 pandemic has been shown to have had a damaging effect on mental health in general, but specifically in children, something that was acknowledged by U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy on Tuesday. Murthy said to lawmakers that the pandemic has had a negative and “devastating” effect on mental health.
“I am deeply concerned as a parent and a doctor that the obstacles this generation of young people face are unprecedented and uniquely hard to navigate and the impact that’s having on their mental health is devastating,” he said.”

An alternative that Randi Weingarten (and boy, is she a piece of work) could buy into.
. Kids are not going to wear proper masks properly. Ain’t gonna happen and makes less difference than you think. They don’t get very sick in any case.
. Teachers don’t want to get sick and die from The Plague given to them by students.
Give each teacher a simple remotely controlled robot with a camera/screen/microphone/speaker.
It can roll around the room and pontificate on white privilege and the like. The teacher can stay snug at home.
Kids get a social life, public health is maintained. If discipline is a problem, assign some sort of proctor (either wearing an anti-plague bunny suit or simply doesn’t worry about it) to keep order. Those with good plague-fearing parents could continue with distance learning.
