[I’m interested in how our liberal readers contort themselves to overlook the disastrous first year of the Biden administration – mostly by regurgitating their ongoing TDS affliction. Never mind 'this is now', keep your eye on 'that was then'. The recent AP/NORC poll puts the whole thing into a perspective that should be of interest to our liberal poll watchers. gjr]

Oh Paul, we are just concerned about your health lately and we care about you. Well, worried about you is more like it. Your are not thinking right. Like, sick in the head or something. Did you come down with the flu? Some winter bug passing through these parts? Man, you don’t know how you are appreciated and need to be nice to you because….who knows how long I will have a chance to tell you that.
Don’t want my last words to you be mean or unkind. Sure, it’s a selfish motive cause I just don’t want to live with the regret of the wrong words being the last thing you heard. So, I appreciate you, Paul Emery from Tacoma, WA. Tacoma Paul was a good man. May his soul finally be at peace.

Oh, ya, no ID, no taking Ole John Brown who is rottiin’ in the grave off the deceased voter rolls, and lions and tigers and bears, oh my. Go ahead, make that the hill you want to die on. Voters (majority) see things differently. Searching for love in all the wrong places.

The State Department has also given permission for non-essential staff to leave and urged US citizens in Ukraine to consider departing.

I’ve been thinking about that and have a theory.
Why would a person stumble into a sort of autistic posting style, saying basically the same thing over and over. There does appear to be a lot of low level mental illness in the world anymore, God knows that flipping through Twitter will show you that.
After a couple of years of being socially isolated, people haven’t gotten to zero contacts but everyone has fewer than before, there’s a real possibility for a kind of general depression to take hold. It’s the kind of thing that drives you to talking about Donald Trump a dozen times a day. Paul is likely to be unmarried and having less contacts with the outside world (plus a bit of ageing) gets you to that point.
If it makes him feel better, I guess he should just carry on as before. It isn’t like all a person’s activities have to be useful or constructive.

True dat. We leave only the good guys behind. I suppose the American folks stranded in Ukraine could hop a plane to Iran and get promptly shot down approaching the Persian Empire. It would be Biden’s fault if some Iranian young adrenaline hyped up soldier, got trigger happy and blew the plane out of the sky. Or, hop a plane to London with folks clinging to the wings and wheels of the jet liner. Darn those bitter clingers.

“On specific issues, things look no better. According to Real Clear Politics’ average of polls, Biden suffers from 60 percent disapproval on the economy and 72 percent disapproval related to the prices of everyday goods.
If Biden is steering toward re-election, he will not get there with these dismal numbers. They reveal deep and wide dissatisfaction with Bidenflation, the virtually erased US-Mexico “border,” the Afghanistan catastrophe, record-breaking murders in at least 16 Democrat-run cities, the supply-chain crisis, Biden’s inability to “shut down the virus,” as confirmed by the 1,483,656 new C-19 cases recorded on January 10 alone.
And much more.“

Ukraine.
From Russia’s POV, they had and do have a very important naval base in Crimea…the only outlet to make it down to the sea. The trouble is there is only only a narrow land bridge to reach the naval yard for resupplying, etc. Crimea is a Russian speaking country whose history of Russian rule go back to Catherine the Great. We are talking exclusively about EASTERN Ukraine.
Think of Ukraine as the rural fly over country and manufacturing centers in our ‘Rust Belt’ as their east and the coastal blue state (and capital) as Ukraine’s cosmopolitan west.
All was fine until the Ukrainian government during the Obama era said they were going to cut off Mother Russia’s access through Ukraine to Crimea. Putin grabbed Crimea at once and pushed hard for a pro-Russian alley elected as President of Ukraine. (That’s was who both Tony Podesta and Paul Manafort did public relations for.). The US did it’s part in getting the pro-Russian dude out and a more pro-Western dude in. That dude was pretty corrupt and the people of Ukraine finally voted for a TV comedian to run things.
So, here we are today. All the action will be in Ukraine’s more Russian population in east. The places where all the diplomats and our State department personnel hang out is in Kiev…the West. Ukraine is about the size of CA, so think Southern Cal vs Northern Ca.
That is why European countries are not evacuating citizens and foreign service personnel. They are quite safe in Kiev, hundreds of miles from the border buildup in the east.

It’s the way of the world. Once an organization has been built-up, has resources, acquires a sort of feedstock of employees, they’re all going to match. Whether it’s GM in the 1950’s or a legal-organization-with-a-mission, everyone ends up coming from the same schools with the same philosophy.
It’s always kind of too-bad when an old organization is bent to the will of a new mafia, but it’s darned hard to avoid I think. God knows what the original donors to the various Pew Trusts would think of the current executives.
If you want a legacy, a feedback loop that keeps it on-track looks super difficult to achieve.
Looking at modern ‘progressives’, I’d say that the US Constitution is on it’s last legs. The Founding Fathers are as far removed from an Adam Schiff or Pelosi as it’s possible to be. Without a fundamentalist Supreme Court, the Brownian motion puts you in weird places. I really don’t think that more modern institutions have the legs of the Egyptian civilization.
