    SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Prison inmates can’t legally possess marijuana under California’s law allowing recreational pot, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday in overturning a lower court that found prisoners could have the drug as long as they didn’t consume it.
    The justices said the 2019 appellate court ruling allowing prisoners to have up to 1 ounce (28.5 grams) of marijuana went against common sense. The high court sided with the state attorney general in finding the state’s marijuana law approved by voters did not apply to Californians in prison.
    “It seems implausible” that the voters intended to essentially decriminalize marijuana in prisons, Associate Justice Joshua Groban wrote for the majority.
    “We agree with the Attorney General that if the drafters had intended to so dramatically change the laws regarding cannabis in prison, we would expect them to have been more explicit about their goals,” he wrote.

    After a push from far-left senators, the Biden administration is delaying the modernization of America’s nuclear weapons stockpile.
    Multiple sources told the Washington Free Beacon that the White House is ordering the Department of Defense to explore extending the lifespan of America’s land-based nuclear arsenal. The decision marks an about-face for the Biden administration, which had previously committed to nuclear modernization efforts. Some Democrats have pushed the administration away from modernization, citing cost and concerns that it would escalate global tensions.
    But military leaders are calling for nuclear modernization to counter efforts from Russia and China. Admiral Charles Richard, head of Strategic Command, said China’s nuclear arms are expanding at a “breathtaking” rate. Commercial satellite images released in July show the construction of two massive nuclear silo fields in the Chinese desert. Russia is constructing the heaviest ballistic missile in the world, which could enter service as early as 2022.
    The Biden administration’s order follows a request from Sens. Jeff Merkley (D., Ore.) and Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), who lead the contingent of Democrats opposed to nuclear modernization, to cut investment in modernization from the budget. In the coming months, an independent group of scientists will review the Minuteman III missiles, which were first deployed during the Vietnam War.

    Last week, the State Department announced that Afghans who did not qualify for the special immigrant visa program could instead apply for refugee status under a new initiative. That includes Afghans who didn’t meet the two-year employment requirement, who worked for a U.S.-funded program or a contractor instead of directly for the government, or who worked for a U.S.-based media outlet.
    But that new program requires that these Afghans flee the country first — a barrier too high for the vast majority of them, according to Wilson.
    “Any assumption that Afghan refugees can make their way to safety on foot does not reflect the new reality,” Wilson wrote — noting Taliban forces exercise control of more than half of the country’s border crossings, neighboring countries Iran and Pakistan are closing their borders to more refugees and other countries around the world are not offering Afghans visas to enter.

    More information was exposed during this symposium, including the revelation that Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters’ office was raided “in an intimidation effort by George Soros groomed Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold,” according to reporting from The Gateway Pundit.
    “Just yesterday I got an order from the Secretary of State that she was going to invade my elections department today,” Peters said. “And guess what, when I was on a plane to come to see you kind folks and to talk to you out there, guess what they did. They provided a search warrant and raided my office.”
    “We don’t know what they were doing in there, because for several hours they wouldn’t let my chief deputy clerk, who was the acting clerk of Mesa County when I’m absent, wouldn’t even let her observe what the secretary of state and Dominion were doing in my office,” she continued.
    “She has come into my office several times already in the last two years since I’ve been the elected official,” Peters added. “Because I am a Republican, I’m a conservative and she’s not. And she weaponizes her position to attack people that disagree with her.””

    “In a 24-hour period, four educators in Broward County, Florida, died from Covid-19 related complications, officials said,” CNN wrote in the now-deleted tweet. “At least three were unvaccinated, a teacher’s union president said. The vaccination status of the fourth isn’t yet known.”
    “Trash reporting from CNN somehow (oopsie!) fails to mention schools in Broward County have yet to open. Garbage. Shameful silence from the rest of the media,” New York Post columnist Karol Markowicz reacted.
    “This is an absurd framing,” Fourth Watch media critic Steve Krakauer wrote. “Broward county schools are not open until next week. You could say this about any occupation. It has absolutely nothing to do with them being ‘teachers’ or about what schools should do regarding masks, vaccines or anything else.”
    “This stat is reported with the context that Florida’s state government opposes mandatory masking of children. But schools in Broward county are on summer break. The teachers didn’t get covid-19 in schools from kids. Their status as teachers isn’t relevant…” journalist Zaid Jilani similarly tweeted.
