Well, the FBI in its investigation of all the evidence confirmed what the Capitol Police found: no firearms were found among any of the rioters inside the Capitol building or outside among any of the on-lookers and crowds. No one charged with brandishing or carrying a firearm. That would be against the law.
They did find, according to DC Metro that day, a van with a firearm inside several blocks away that day. Yes, they also found a pile bomb explosive at the RNC headquarters (didn’t go off) and another pipe bomb near/at a Democrat Party building Sounds like Antifa’s MO or Obama’s buddies in the Weather Underground.

Awhile back When the first stimulus checks were being mailed out, I posted a non-political meme of a smiling mechanic that read something to the effect ‘ Every mechanic in America’ and below that caption at the bottom read, “That will be $1,400.”
Sure enough, I took the old beater in for much needed brakes, calipers, and rotors all the way around, plus to unfreeze the parking brake and new parts on that. The mechanic said with a straight face, that will be $1,400. Actually, with the oil change (been a couple or so years), the price was $1,480, so I laid out $1,400 smackers cash and the shop excepted that, lol. Senior discount, I reckon. Money talks, BS walks…as some say.
I lived through the Trump Recession and all I got was some brakes on the old beater. Like putting lipstick on a pig. :).

Joe Biden’s accusing Facebook of killing people was an unforced error, and a rather bizarre one. Facebook is closely aligned with the Democratic Party–Mark Zuckerberg may have done more to win the 2020 election for Joe Biden than anyone else, including Biden–and it was pointless and damaging for Biden to level such an accusation. Moreover, it gave a senior Facebook executive the opportunity to point out that Biden was scapegoating the company for its own failure to meet its vaccination goals.
Today, predictably, Biden changed his mind:
“Facebook isn’t killing people, these 12 people are out there giving misinformation. Anyone listening to it is getting hurt by it. It’s killing people. It’s bad information,” Biden told reporters after giving remarks about the economy, referencing a study that showed a dozen accounts on Facebook are responsible for the majority of misinformation about the coronavirus vaccine seen on the platform.
“My hope is that Facebook, instead of taking it personally, that somehow I’m saying Facebook is killing people, that they would do something about the misinformation, the outrageous misinformation about the vaccine,” Biden added. “That’s what I meant.”
Those 12 accounts, by the way, are widely diverse and share no ideological point of view. One of the “dirty dozen” is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., a long-time anti-vaxxer, as are several of the others.
The most notable aspect of this incident, I think, is that it is one of a number of recent occasions when Biden has spoken with the caustic, belligerent tone that you see in some men as they enter their dotage. No doubt his entourage was horrified when he accused their friends at Facebook of “killing people,” but cleaning up after this kind of outburst is something they are increasingly accustomed to.

I think I have a mixed mind about this. It’s not clear to what extent any of the current ransom attacks are state-sponsored (and ‘sponsored’ could mean a lot of things of course) and I’d be surprised as heck if the Russians or Chinese are as aggressive about exploits as the Israelis or the US.
If something like Pegasus wasn’t built by one company or group, it would simply be another, and I don’t see a general call for bombing Tel Aviv because of it’s existence.
I would suggest instead that governments spent a bit more time hardening systems rather than compromising them, although it is less fun. Perhaps more in the way of certification programs, the FAA exists for a reason. Aggressive internal law enforcement of the bytes passing over the internet would simply lead to more surveillance and control by organizations (ie. governments) with guns and camps rather than ones who are merely after your money.
You could think of it all as a developing immune system. The constant attacks build up strength of the system while carpet bombing the source of attacks is rather like overuse of antibiotics. At some point the world becomes far more dependent on the internet while it’s substrate has never been strengthened.
It’s a shame that there’s so much in the way of vulnerabilities added in order to add features (or improve efficiency) but that’s the nature of attempting to sell Excel 2021 to supersede Excel 2020. It might be just that we’ve hit the upper limits of manageable complexity. Not just the users, but the developers are working on things they don’t understand.
