[There are a couple of House bills that will break up Amazon and other big tech companies. “One of the proposed measures, titled the Ending Platform Monopolies Act, seeks to require structural separation of Amazon and other big technology companies to break up their businesses. It would make it unlawful for a covered online platform to own a business that “utilizes the covered platform for the sale or provision of products or services” or that sells services as a condition for access to the platform. The platform company also couldn’t own businesses that create conflicts of interest, such as by creating the ‘incentive and ability’ for the platform to advantage its own products over competitors.” This would change the face of online businesses; thoughts? gjr]

You would think someone who proposed this would be fired asap but NOOOO it ‘academia’ =
It says “speciesist” hate speech is as bad as racism.
The proposals — published in the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies — would see cats, dogs, farm animals, even seagulls safeguarded.
And the plans ignore the fact animals can’t be offended by words.
Last night Tory MP Nigel Mills branded the idea “utter woke nonsense” and “a complete waste of time”.
Dr Josh Milburn and Dr Alasdair Cochrane of the University of Sheffield suggest it could be hate speech to say the lives of a non-native species matter less than a native one.
They say it would be impractical to censure wounding words “only if they actually wound”.

So they want you to give up your car for a leaf, however reality has set in, its cool if you have to go down the street but you are screwed if you need to actually road trip so they are giving them back. –
Roughly 20% of electric vehicle owners in California replaced their cars with gas ones, a recent study shows.
The main reason drivers made the switch was the inconvenience of charging.
The findings suggest new challenges facing the growth of the nascent electric vehicle market.
See more stories on Insider’s business page.
In roughly three minutes, you can fill the gas tank of a Ford Mustang and have enough range to go about 300 miles with its V8 engine.
But for the electric Mustang Mach-E, an hour plugged into a household outlet gave Bloomberg automotive analyst Kevin Tynan just three miles of range.
“Overnight, we’re looking at 36 miles of range,” he told Insider. “Before I gave it back to Ford, because I wanted to give it back full, I drove it to the office and plugged in at the charger we have there.”

on EVs: c’est la vie, a dedicated charger is essentially a no-brainer since a car is going to need at least (probably more) what they have now in terms of power storage (70kwh on one of those Fords?) and a house circuit only has what it has. No way around it. Improvements in battery tech won’t make much difference except for a bit of weight reduction.
Electric cars will phase in (so to speak) bit by bit as prices reduce, and people like the idea of near-zero maintenance, low fuel cost, and not having to deal with the utter torture of smog checks(tm). No need to force the issue, but no doubt the State will try. The fun part will be the lack of sufficient generation capability to meet the needs of cars and new housing construction if they force everyone off of natgas.

I was having an enjoyable morning reading about the ‘transabled’ and ran into this essay.
https://hwfo.substack.com/p/a-detailed-look-at-woke-update-mechanicsories
It’s filled with plenty of funny stories, but the money shot is the last paragraph
“If you’re Anti-Woke, you need to get your head straight about what you’re fighting. Attacking Woke Dogma piecemeal may get you Twitter followers or Patreon money, but it does nothing to diminish the Woke. In fact, it gives them ideas about where to evolve their thing next, like with Dolezal. In order to fight this thing you need it’s clone, your own 4GW program with its own means of establishing controlled updates to “basic human decency” that doesn’t have the inherent flaws in the Woke’s beta test. Without that, you’re just going to get overrun.”
It’s worth considering what that program might be. Building a sustainable program from mocking insane people or pearl-clutching about other peoples’ rapidly increasing tribalism is not a plan. Any suggestions are welcome.

On June 8, MFG announced it would shut down its South Dakota factory in August, blaming a variety of factors including Biden’s tax policies. The factory has produced wind turbine blades since 2007, the company said.
“The closure comes as a result of changes in market conditions, foreign competition and proposed revisions to tax policies impacting the wind energy industry in the United States,” MFG said in a statement.”

WARNING BUZZ KILL TRIGGER WARNING –
Joe Biden returned from his sojourn to the UK and Europe to face a growing list of domestic headaches as his big-spending policies stalled and were also blamed for rising inflation.
Mr Biden’s initial “American Jobs Plan” called for a record $2.3 trillion in infrastructure spending. Republicans fought hard to stop that and it is now bogged down in Congress.
While Mr Biden was meeting Vladimir Putin in Geneva a bipartisan group of 21 senators – 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats – came up with a compromise that would almost halve the amount to $1.2 trillion over eight years.
The resulting gridlock explains why a Monmouth University poll this week made worrying reading for Mr Biden after Air Force One landed back in the US.
His approval rating was 48 per cent, down six points from April and below 50 per cent for the first time in a Monmouth poll.
The number of Democrats who think the country is “moving in the right direction” has plummeted from 83 per cent in April to 59 per cent now.
