One of Jo Ann’s recent Union articles (here) addressed the futile attempts in the Left’s ongoing calls for unity, supposedly addressed to people like her – conservative, Christian women who pay very close attention to national affairs and are active in their communities. (more here) The piece garnered a record reader response in print, online, and snail-mailed letters. One heartfelt, well-written and long letter from a liberal woman gave Jo Ann kudos and concluded with a strong appeal for all of us to come together. It is the ongoing flood of appeals like that, appeals that imply coming together is something as simple as throwing an attitudinal switch, that motivates the present reflection.
The fact of the matter, evident to both sides, is that the established mentality of each makes even the first steps to such a reunion highly unlikely. We both consume vastly different sources of information which define and interpret our everyday reality. And both sides are convinced that the other’s sources are not only in error, but also purposely evil. An example of such evil is the CDC’s lying, or “skewing” if you will, about the Covid fatalities as reported in a recent peer- reviewed study (here and here).
Another evident factor of our information sources is how each characterizes the other’s reporting. The leftwing sources make naked accusations like ‘Fox News lied about X’, and that’s that, no substantiation of what the lie was and where the contradicting truth could be found. The asymmetry in the reporting is that when FN, or any other rightwing outlet reports a lamestream lie, it cites what the lie was and how it is contradicted by this or that source.
Then we come to the nascent Biden administration, led by Bumblebrain, that promises to become one of the most massive manufacturers of Marxist/communist propaganda and supporting lies as it continues to launch one anti-American policy after another. Out the gate, we witness the nation’s Covid vaccination program according to Team Biden. Here’s the story as denied daily by the lamestream to our lightly-read neighbors.
Operation Warp Speed was supported by the first and only Covid relief bills under Trump which were used to place massive production orders for doses of the yet to be developed vaccines. Early last summer Trump put in orders to all the major Big Pharma outfits for 800 million doses, and after November the administration ordered another 200 million doses for a total of one billion doses on order.
It was the advance payment for all these doses that funded the development of the vaccines; that is where Team Trump understood to take risk so as to enable the now historic vaccine development program of 2020 and have the manufacturers start supplying doses at their maximum possible production rates. In addition, vaccine distribution systems were put in place that employed the resources of DHS, National Guard, and the active military. Biden has literally done NOTHING more since assuming office, save continue Trump’s programs while issuing a daily spate of lies to the American people dunning the Trump administration, claiming credit for making the vaccines available – including their timely purchasing, and distribution to the states.
All this is documented in the non-partisan GAO reports, and even begrudgingly reported by the left-leaning PolitiFact (as reported on the 14mar21 Mark Levin show). The latter still attempts to put the onus for “poor planning” on the Trump administration, blaming the inevitable confusion of implementing something never even contemplated before on a national scale. These people are truly ignorant and/or evil in their characterization of how the most successful vaccine development and distribution program was pulled off. Most certainly they are doing nothing to unify the country, but quite the opposite.
So today Union’s leftwing columnist Darrell Berkheimer writes a most devious and twisted column (here) advising his readers where to go for reliable information in this world of fake news, corporatist disinformation, and government propaganda. Predictably he cites the fabulously flawed MediaBias.com, a leftwing media rating site that appears to be in its last orbit around the toilet bowl. This is the outfit that rates NBC, CBS, ABC, NPR, PBS, AP, NYT, and WaPo as “Neutral – minimal partisan bias or balance of biases”, reporting nothing but news and facts.
These outlets have been known to be anything but ‘balanced’ and impartial news sources. This has gotten so bad that even members of the judiciary have begun to alert the public. An example is federal Judge Laurence Silberman of the DC appeals court who wrote that the NYT and WaPo “are virtually Democratic Party broadsheets.” He went on to echo an oft-repeated RR dictum that “the first step taken by any potential authoritarian or dictatorial regime is to gain control of communications, particularly the delivery of news.” (more here and here)
Meanwhile, the world’s Berkheimers have not a clue as to what reliable journalism and reporting even looks like. With such seemingly willful ignorance, they still continue to regale all of us with their virtue signaling calls for ‘unity’. A most blatant example of Berkheimer’s myopia is that he never even considers that his “reliable” news sources like ABC and CBS never once backed off the years-long Russia collusion Big Lie, they simply continued to quote the Democrat leaders’ evidence-free allegations (e.g. from Schumer, Nadler, Pelosi) as substantiating their own allegations until they ran out of investigations that failed to find any of the evidence they had for years claimed existed. This kind of outlets are deemed reliable by our liberal neighbors as they continue calling for unity.
So now we again come to the Left’s invitation to national unity while doing everything they can before 2022 to make America into yet one more compliant satrap ready to accept a socialist world order. Who do they expect to attract and convince once more that theirs is the way for humanity to meld and march into the future? What none of the unity promoters seem to understand is that step one on such a path is an understanding of what the other sees as the kind of America each wants live in, and what kinds of America each seeks to avoid.
The Left is openly working for a Marxist/Leninist future for all of us. Society organized under one huge overarching global government run by ideological technocrats who dispense rules and regulations to the masses organized into compliant cohorts of mutually distrustful classes. These social orders are slated to live according to the provisions in the UN’s Agenda21 plan (here), and now the updated 2030 Agenda adopted at the 2012 Conference on Sustainable Development (here). In this brave new world, the individual becomes a cypher, minimally distinguishable from his neighbor, all sharing the same thoughts, consuming the same government supplied/curated ‘truths’, and communicating correctly with each other as prescribed.
The Right is working to maintain the considerable and commendable parts of our history, and the constitutionally evolving structure and operation of a government that should be only large enough to provide national security, certain large-scale shared infrastructures, private property rights, guaranteed individual freedoms, and that can maintain America as a minimally regulated sovereign nation-state within a Westphalian world order. In such a country recognition comes from the bottom up, starting with each person and rewarding him within a social framework that honors the family, individualism, industry, meritocracy, personal initiative, common morals and ethical behavior.
With such vastly divergent visions and goals for the future, how can the exhortations for unity from people like Jo Ann’s well-meaning correspondent ever be achieved. The attempts at a middle ground have been tried, and they have failed miserably. Collectivism and its variants of socialism and communism are like virulent cancers that immediately begin metastasizing toward autocracy as its first waypoint on the way to totalitarianism. We’ve seen it all before.
So as a nation we again stand at a fork in the road, half wanting to go socialist and the other half wanting to maintain and expand the blessings of a prudently regulated capitalist order. There is only one solution to this decision dilemma that will satisfy most Americans.
[24mar21 update] My bride got another lambasting in the 23mar21 Union (here) from a liberal who, sadly, reflects the same deficiencies that the critics of her previous 12feb21 column on unity heaped on her. In the latest, a Mr Daryl Grigsby demonstrates that he also did not understand the point of Jo Ann’s column in which she asked how the Democrats’ and Team Biden’s constant broadsides against Republicans and especially Trump supporters are supposed to encourage the tens of millions of irredeemable deplorables to answer their lavishly publicized calls for national unity.
What none of the liberals have been able to puzzle out with their native logic is that it was Joe Biden who initiated (and continues?) the Democrats’ faux appeal for national unity. After being sworn in, his actions and those of Dems’ congressional leadership have done everything possible to reject the Republicans and further divide the country. The question that goes begging is, ‘I’m not the one appealing for unity, you are. Then how am I supposed to respond to your vituperation and demonstrated my-way-or-the-highway initiatives?’
Grigsby, an African-American, goes on to repeat all the Democrat evidence-free allegations against Trump, the leading ones being (wait for it) racism and white supremacy. In that process he accuses Jo Ann of not taking “any responsibility for being part of a movement that threatened Blacks, Muslims, Hispanics and frankly did little to nothing for the working class whites (Trump) claimed to represent.” Given the evidence, that is actual data, of how our minorities fared during the last four years, Grigsby concludes his misguided missive with “nowhere does she even faintly acknowledge she was part of a divisive and racist movement.”
So, we leave the argument where it all started – where is there any basis for common ground, let alone unification? Today we demonstrate hourly that each side has not only its own worldview (both ontology and epistemology, see below), but also its diametrically opposite goals for the future of our nation. Apparently, only those of the Right understand this fundamental reality, the Left believes that they will be able to muscle everyone to accept their demonstrably demonic social order for us and the rest of the world.

Thank you, Daryl Grigsby, for your clearly stated, intelligent guest column regarding Jo Ann Rebane. I’ve often considered writing something to counter the lack of compassion and critical thinking I find in her submissions, but I can’t get past my anger to write a coherent letter. I just decided I would never read any more of her nonsense. … I cannot understand why some people hate anyone who is not just like themselves: Asians, Blacks, Jewish, etc. We are all people who love our country. There’s your unity. Bonnie McManus, Grass Valley.
Her failed attempt to write a coherent letter illustrates a dismal state of mind and, again, a hard to comprehend level of ignorance. Where does she deduce “lack of compassion” and hatred of “anyone who is not like themselves” in Jo Ann’s column that simply asked the question that is repeated by millions of Americans across the country today?? It is scary to think of people like Ms McManus exercising their right to vote.
