The above cartoon by our tried and true progressive cartoonist Bob Crabb was filched from the pages of The Union’s 16jan21 edition.  It provides an opportune lesson that illustrates our polarization and the sorry condition of jurisdictions that practice monopoly politics.  (I do like the Burma-Shave signs.)

Collectivists like Bob sincerely want to “find a cure for” partisan politics.  They totally miss that partisanship is the only political order that provides the necessary and critical feedback loops which yield balanced governance.  Without effective and ongoing partisanship we get runaway one-party rule of the type that in recent years has put a heap of hurt on a number of states and urban jurisdictions led, of course, by California.

While our Democrats, along with other international globalists, work ardently for an overarching, all-powerful world government, almost all other people, who are able to give the problem some thought, oppose such a sure path to a stable and lasting tyranny.  As conservetarian, I would never want a political monopoly of free-market capitalism in my country to dominate so as to eliminate effective feedback from collectivist ideologues.

Progressives, hewing to the teachings of the immortal Marx, have no concept of the function of such balance in the ongoing back-and-forth of governance, and even less knowledge of how to achieve and maintain that needed tension.  For them, all goodness and light comes from but a single fount of truth enabled by one-party rule.  No broadly beneficial and productive social order has ever been achieved without robust feedbacks that check government excesses which easily arise from human weaknesses.

Government, by its very nature has always lacked these critical feedback mechanisms, and as a result is the most inefficient way to organize people to get almost anything done right.  (Most recent example, the states’ inability to efficiently distribute and administer C19 vaccines, again led by California.)  Nevertheless, every society needs individuals to contribute some time, treasure, and talent to collective enterprises, such as national security and shared infrastructures, that would be inefficient undertakings for private enterprise.

But here the modus operandi should always be guided by the minimalist principle of having the smallest possible government, but no smaller.  And to achieve that is where the collectivists and capitalists must meet on a sufficiently par basis of partisan politics to arrive at a workable social order, one that provides hope and equal opportunity for all to pursue their dreams, rewards merit and industry, does not abandon those unable, and all of it no matter how inevitably and unequally we are suited for the pursuit.

As history illuminates and we demonstrate daily, all other mono-partisan approaches to organize society lead toward tyranny or anarchy.

    Here they come –
Free speech was being threatened, he alleged, by the actions of privately held social media and tech companies — such as regulating users and applications — being made without oversight of a publicly elected body. …
In his comments to the school Monday, Thorne told students that “a marketplace of free exchange of ideas” was at stake, and that students should be concerned that there is not elected accountability for the social media and tech platforms and only financial power from users. The lack of accountability “should be very chilling for you, that should be very frightening for you,” he said.

From Scenes’ link @ 10:41 pm, found this:
‘Offering a ‘return to normalcy,’ Biden pledges troop surges in Iraq and Afghanistan’
“We’re not doing any of this troop withdrawal malarkey.”
    https://www.duffelblog.com/p/in-return-to-normalcy-biden-prepares
And to think I was just 12 hours ago I was going to post an article that said that our troops in Iraq and Afganistan have been reduced to 2,500 troops in each country respectively, one of which is the lowest number of US troops in 20 friggin years.
Say Goodbye to troop withdraws and Hello to the Party of War. Trump and us Dregs of Society proudly (and thankfully) point to the fact that Trump is the first POTUS who has avoided getting the US entangled in some foreign war since Jimmy the Peanut Farmer.
Here comes the neo-coms licking their chops in orgasmic anticiation of ramping up for War.
Next up: funding Hezbollah via Iran. Sad. Don’t they realize that Iran’s target is NOT Israel (the little Satan) but the USA, the BIG Satin? Apparently not.
If Trump proved one thing, it is thst sanctions work. Even our Western European allies and theit foreign ministers have begrudgingly admitted publicly that Trump’s policy concerning Iran has worked.
Oh course John Kerry and the party of beating the drums of war would disagree.
Lets go backwards and do what did not work. Listen to France instead. They have such a good record concerning matters of war that the joke goes something like this:
Q: How many French Generals does it take to successfully defend Paris?
    A: Nobody knows.

Methinks it’s a joke website, but I don’t doubt it could happen. No point in buying trouble though. It might be a while before the War Party swings into action as there’s a lot of revenge and a lot of payoffs for Harris to carry out. Getting another 11 million Democratic voters signed up will take a few minutes.
I was thinking about DonB’s 7:26PM concerning the school principal who dared criticize The Party’s organized censorship. It’s funny how the same goals produce the same solution. In the article, one Barton Thorne is being investigated by Michael Lowe, with the district’s “Office of Equity and Access”. You can call it something else, but a Political Commissar can be spotted a mile away.
I wish I had real visibility into the modern Army. What with the 25,000+ troops in place to provide the spectacle of an El Presidente succession, and just wait until Biden starts wearing his first row of medals, evidently there’s a need for the FBI to politically vet the whole lot.
It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that you’ll see an entire political officer class slotted into place with fast increases in rank. I’m 99% sure that the noncoms will start getting their lockers searched for Trump stickers. No promotions for you. Service members will be heavily encouraged to inform on their co-workers. You can imagine how combat arms will be decimated.
Historically we’ve seen all this before, so buckle up in your own way.

PaulE 934am – However, do you AGAIN draw such conclusions?? Hoover’s mistake was not providing enough liquidity in a timely manner to the nation’s credit institutions when the highly leveraged loans (e.g. buying stocks on thin margins) of the ‘roaring 20s’ came due. FDR doubled down on that policy and attempted the feds to spend and regulate the markets back to full function. It took until eve of WW2 for the administration to admit its failure to address the Great Depression.

Hoover? Yes, there were outhouses marked as Hoover Camps back in the day.
Hoover believed that for government to introduce passing out food during lean times (todays food stamps) was a slippery slope that the Federal Government should not be involved in. Thus, he had the Red Cross and other similar organizations pass out packets of seeds.
When 17,000 World War I vets occupied Washington DC and encamped there demanding the Government give there WWI service certificates prematurely (now) instead of waiting for the bonus checks authorized by Congress post-war to be paid on 1945, things got ugly.
“Many of the war veterans had been out of work since the beginning of the Great Depression. The World War Adjusted Compensation Act of 1924 had awarded them bonuses in the form of certificates they could not redeem until 1945. Each certificate, issued to a qualified veteran soldier, bore a face value equal to the soldier’s promised payment with compound interest. The principal demand of the Bonus Army was the immediate cash payment of their certificates.
On July 28, 1932, U.S. Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans removed from all government property. Washington police met with resistance, shot at the protestors, and two veterans were wounded and later died. President Herbert Hoover then ordered the U.S. Army to clear the marchers’ campsite. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded a contingent of infantry and cavalry, supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.”
(more…..just to name names). “ At 1:40 pm MacArthur ordered General Perry Miles to assemble troops on the Ellipse immediately south of the White House. Within the hour the 3rd Cavalry led by Patton, then a Major, crossed the Memorial Bridge, with the 12th Infantry arriving by steamer about an hour later. At 4 pm Miles told MacArthur that the troops were ready, and MacArthur (like Eisenhower, by now in service uniform), said that Hoover wanted him “on hand” to “take the rap if …”[citation needed]
Although the troops were ready, Hoover twice sent instructions to MacArthur not to cross the Anacostia bridge that night, both of which were ignored. Shortly after 9 pm, MacArthur ordered Miles to cross the bridge and evict the Bonus Army from its encampment.[27]
At 4:45 pm. commanded by General Douglas MacArthur, the 12th Infantry Regiment, Fort Howard, Maryland, and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, supported by six M1917 light tanks commanded by Maj. George S. Patton, formed in Pennsylvania Avenue while thousands of civil service employees left work to line the street and watch. The Bonus Marchers, believing the troops were marching in their honor, cheered the troops until Patton ordered[citation needed] the cavalry to charge them, which prompted the spectators to yell, “Shame! Shame!”[citation needed]
Shacks that members of the Bonus Army erected on the Anacostia Flats burning after its confrontation with the army.
After the cavalry charged, the infantry, with fixed bayonets and tear gas (adamsite, an arsenical vomiting agent) entered the camps, evicting veterans, families, and camp followers. The veterans fled across the Anacostia River to their largest camp, and Hoover ordered the assault stopped. MacArthur chose to ignore the president and ordered a new attack, claiming that the Bonus March was an attempt to overthrow the US government. 55 veterans were injured and 135 arrested.[1] A veteran’s wife miscarried. When 12-week-old Bernard Myers died in the hospital after being caught in the tear gas attack, a government investigation reported he died of enteritis, and a hospital spokesman said the tear gas “didn’t do it any good.”[28]
During the military operation, Major Dwight D. Eisenhower, later the 34th president of the United States, served as one of MacArthur’s junior aides.[29] Believing it wrong for the Army’s highest-ranking officer to lead an action against fellow American war veterans, he strongly advised MacArthur against taking any public role: “I told that dumb son-of-a-bitch not to go down there,” he said later. “I told him it was no place for the Chief of Staff.”[30] Despite his misgivings, Eisenhower later wrote the Army’s official incident report that endorsed MacArthur’s conduct.[31]”
BOTTOMLINE: Governor of New York Franklin Roosevelt, when hearing the news, quipped “I just got won the Presidency.”
** side note: FDR himself was opposed to issuing the Bonus Checks in the Presidential campaign in 1932, which he won in a landslide after got blamed for the disastrous handling of the Bonus Camp by MacArthur , who ignored Hoover’s orders and the Great Depression, of course.
FDR vetoed Congress’s Bonus Checks Relief bill in 1936, but Congress overrode his veto.
Those were the days. No food stamps, no unemployment compensation, 25% unemployment, and it was a hard go. Produced tough people, not fat and whinny like today as we are in the middle of an national obesity crisis that will kill hundreds of thousands.

    For Punchy:
“The Great Depression created a widespread misconception that market economies are inherently unstable and must be managed by the government to avoid large macreconomic fluctuations, that is, business cycles. This view persists to this day despite the more than 40 years since Milton Friedman and Anna Jacobson Schwartz showed convincingly that the Federal Reserve’s monetary policies were largely to blame for the severity of the Great Depression. In 2002 Ben Bernanke (then a Federal Reserve governor, today the chairman of the Board of Governors) made this startling admission in a speech given in honor of Friedman’s 90th birthday: “I would like to say to Milton and Anna: Regarding the Great Depression, you’re right. We did it. We’re very sorry.”

PaulE 1253pm – As Greg 1257pm points out, the Fed’s job was then and is now to manage the money supply in the economy and increase/decrease it as economic conditions dictate (actually, as they are perceived). The job of POTUS in such cases is to use the bully pulpit to goad the Fed into appropriate action. History shows that Hoover failed to do that in a timely manner. And neither did FDR. But since the crash happened on Hoover’s watch, history throws all the blame on him – which since then has been a source of joy to all simple-thinking Democrats.

Abe Lincoln made the list because he did not do enough to prove black lives matter to him. He did not show he valued black lives. Well, he sent 650,000 men to their deaths because black lives did matter to ole Abe.

‘There is no authoritative source of information these days,’ McMaster told the anti-Trump anchor
What we need to do is we need to analyze what the heck happened, right?” McMaster began. “We’ve been talking about the president’s responsibility, but it didn’t start there, right? This loss of confidence, these large portions of our population which feel disenfranchised, that lack confidence in our common identity as Americans, who lack confidence in our democratic principles and institutions and processes. How did that happen?”
McMaster then listed off “civics education” and “a sense of our history” among things that should be reexamined before turning to the media’s role in America’s divide.
“We have to look at your profession, Jake, the media,” McMaster told Tapper. “Why is it that people who lean in one direction politically watch one cable news station, some who lean in another direction watch yours or another one? Why do people go to the pseudo-media and believe these kinds of conspiracy theories? What is the role that social media plays in further polarizing our society and pinning us against each other. Anyway, the ole Buzzard of Broad Street was hotter than a goat’s butt in a pepper patch, carrying on about somebody in the 90’s had a confederate flag flying on a house right in Niverna City….and he done saw it with his own eyeballs…decades ago! Oh the drama. The horror, the horror.
The Punch Meister Was carrying on and on even worse than his meltdown over Melania’s choice of footwear.
Call the police and tell them you are concerned and do not feel safe. Look at the bright side. At least we don’t live in Tennessee of Florida or North Carolina where all the New Yorkers are fleeing to. Who would want to live there now?
Let’s see what the Washington Compost had to say about folks waving the Stars and Bars. “Away, away, away down South in Dixie”
