[There is a lot happening in the world while our federal govt is focused on the attempts to remove President Trump from office before his term is up next Wednesday. Haven't heard much discussion of how our 'friends' and declared enemies are preparing for the new Harris/Biden administration. There's some serious stuff going down as they anticipate a new TBD foreign policy from Washington. Usually the bad guys pull off some kind of test to gauge the measure of America's new Big Kahuna. gjr]

βDems want to bring down anyone who ever backed Trump: Goodwinβ
-βIn December of 2019, President Trump tweeted a picture of himself bracketed by an unpunctuated caption.
βIn reality theyβre not after meβ it read. βTheyβre after you Iβm just in the way.β
ββ-
βThe first time around, Dems used impeachment as a campaign strategy to defeat Trump in 2020. They are now using impeachment to try to keep him out of the 2024 race, which would happen under a Senate conviction because he would be barred from ever again holding public office.
If that were all, the revenge agenda would be loathsome enough. But Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and their co-conspirators in Big Media and Big Tech are proving Trump was right when he said his supporters were the ultimate target. Let us the count the examples in just the last few days.
Start with the calls from leading Dems for GOP Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to resign for objecting to the Electoral College results, which amounts to an attempt to decapitate potential heirs to the Trump movement. Hawley and Cruz, forceful and articulate conservatives, essentially did what various Democrats did over the years when Republicans were elected president, yet they are being labeled criminals and traitors as accusers equate their votes with supporting the riot.
Democrats blowing House control right off the bat with Trump vendetta: Goodwin
Joe Biden, who keeps insisting he wants to unite the country, even accused Hawley and Cruz of spreading the βbig lie.β To make sure his point was clear, Biden referred to Hitlerβs propagandist, Joseph Goebbels.
Imagine that β the next president says two senators who oppose him are acting like Nazis. Apparently the unity agenda will come only after all dissenters are driven from office.

Bonus!
Unfortunately, the question is not whether a far-left government will follow suit. The only question is how long will it take before saying something the ruling class doesnβt want to hear is a crime?
Tone-deaf pictures
Reader Harold Theurer is having a flashback. Noting the unflattering photo of Mayor de Blasio and Chirlane McCray dancing in a nearly-deserted Times Square on New Yearβs Eve, Theurer asks: βIsnβt this picture the equivalent of the Chris Christie beach chair photo?β

Vaccination at a crawl
From a City Hall press release: βMayor de Blasio today announced that Citi Field will become a 24/7 mega vaccination site. Operated by the NYC Health + Hospitals Test & Trace Corps, the site is currently slated to launch the week of January 25th.β
So it isnβt βslated to launchβ for nearly two weeks. According to its stats, the city administered about 240,000 vaccines, a piddling average of about 8,300 per day.
At this rate, it will take far longer to give a shot to every New Yorker than the nine months it took to develop the vaccine.

FYI
The Editors of the nation’s oldest conservative magazine The National Review declared in an editorial today that there is “no doubt that Donald Trump has committed an impeachable offense.”
quotes from the editorial:
“Some Republicans in the House, most notably the No. 3 Republican, the impressive Liz Cheney, are supporting it. According to press reports, Mitch McConnell is pleased at the prospect of impeachment. If he were to come out in favor of conviction, it’d be a seismic event that would potentially bring a Senate conviction within reach.”
“People of good will can disagree about the best response to the last two months and especially last week, but about one thing there can be no question β it’s the recklessness and selfishness of one man that brought us to this place,” Also they write:
President Trump “urged a crowd to march on the U.S. Capitol and pressure his vice president and Congress to abuse their authority” to overturn a free and fair election that Joe Biden clearly won.
As the mob breached the Capitol, Trump failed to forthrightly tell the rioters to stop, The Editors write, and the violence that ensued was the culmination of Trump’s “ceaseless campaign of misinformation meant to delegitimize an American election.”

None of that is illegal or violent.
As to the election being ‘free and fair’ – that is their opinion.
Trump never instructed anyone to do anything illegal or violent.
Unlike many Dems in the last year who did.

Silly Paul. You know darned well that the Dems need no excuse to impeach Trump. They donβt need a stinkinβ reason. They had it baked in the cake before Trump took office and were openly advocating for it. No need to hide behind some editorial. Not needed in the least. You donβt even need to quote Republican Icon William Kristol or the Lincoln Project. Or even Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
What you are seeing is the normal finger pointing after the loss of the Senate and the Oval Office. Things will settle down in a couple of months. It happened to both parties after the very recent election disappointment. Look at the finger pointing within the Dem party after their congressional disappointment in November. Flipping districts to Red in Blue Blue CA Dreaminβ was not even on the table so they blame AOC and Medicaid for All and Defund the Police and day of birth abortions, if not infanticide and their whole platform. The Squad fired back that they were re-elected in comfortable fashion and perhaps the losers would have not lost their seats if they followed the Squadβs blueprint, lol.
As far as the National Review, they started souring on Trumpβs chances after the end of November and were saying, βgive it up, Donald. Look at the calendar. You havenβt make your case for Stop the Steal and there is no time left. Many other conservative publications and voices were staying the same thing by mid-December. Just one clear case of an indisputable smoking gun (akin to a bank video of an unmasked bandit sticking up a teller or a tape of some dude knocking off a liquor store with a sawed off shogun, Terminator style) would have changed the entire narrative. But, time ran out.
There are many opportunists that are and will take advantage of this to attempt to spit the old GOP into two camps. One camp is those who believe in Trumpism, and the other camp who want to go back to a Jeb Bush message (and person) served up from the old GOP by the Bush holdovers. Or, to put it another way, the Trumpism camp are not Republicans per se; they are Constitutionalists. More to the libertarian bent of traditional βconservativeβ values β of the role of Big Bro in our lives…..more of a donβt tread on me Jeffersonian liberal. Civil liberties defenders. The individual is the one who charts his own future. You do your thing, I do mine. Let it all hang out, but pressure me to condone it. Tolerate? Yes!, unless you sport a man-bun, outside the food prep industry. Stay in your own lane and I will stay in mine. βIf your werenβt so busy minding other peopleβs business, you wouldnβt be minding mine.β
Anyway, to the main point, the Leftinistas of today donβt need to follow no stinkinβ rules (save Rules for Radicals) to impeach Trump. Itβs all emotion based and you canβt argue with feelings. βInsurrection against The Governmentβ is a good one. Good as any excuse.
The Executive Branch declares war on the Legislative Branch! Seems to me Chuckie Schummer and the Democrat Senators where threatening the Judicial Branch not that too long ago in clear threatening unambiguous language. You better rule this way! Insight: βThose who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth, and let me remind you they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyranny.β βBarry Goldwater (1909-1998)
Friendly fire: βWe understand the desire to permanently suspend [Trump] now, but it should concern everyone when companies like Facebook and Twitter wield the unchecked power to remove people from platforms that have become indispensable for the speech of billions β especially when political realities make those decisions easier.β βACLU senior legislative counsel Kate Ruane
For the record: βIf Trump was the foremost offender, Twitter hasnβt done us any favors in this period of our national life. It has fed moral panics and enabled cancellation mobs. It has exposed journalists who once made a pretense of objectivity as rank partisans. It has enticed once serious people into crowd-pleasing clownishness. It has made politicians dumber and cruder. It has distorted political reality for people across the spectrum. It, in short, has helped derange our politics, with the former Tweeter-in-Chief leading the way.β βRich Lowry
Observations: βCensorship, wokeness, political correctness, it all points in one direction β authoritarianism, cloaked as moral righteousness. Itβs similar to what weβre seeing at Twitter, and Facebook, and Apple, and on too many university campuses. This is not who we are, as Americans.β βSecretary of State Mike Pompeo
Tone-deaf: βWe simply cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing left to open. We must reopen the economy, but we must do it smartly and safely.β βGovernor Andrew βTrashing Vaccinesβ Cuomo now that the election is over
Double standards: βAhead of the Ugandan election, weβre hearing reports that Internet service providers are being ordered to block social media and messaging apps. We strongly condemn internet shutdowns β they are hugely harmful, violate basic human rights and the principles of the #OpenInternet. Access to information and freedom of expression, including the public conversation on Twitter, is never more important than during democratic processes, particularly elections.β βTwitter Public Policy notice
Alpha jackass: βWe go for all the Republican voters and Homeland Security will take their children away. β¦ Weβll put them into the reeducation camps. Enlightenment camps. Theyβre nice. They have Sesame Street characters in the classrooms, and they watch PBS all day. Americans are so fβking dumb. You know, most people are dumb. Itβs good to live in a place [Washington, DC] where people are educated and know stuff. Could you imagine if you lived in one of these other towns or cities where everybodyβs just stupid? β¦ Whatβs great is that COVID is spiking in all the red states right now. So thatβs great β¦ a lot of them [red state voters] are sick and dying.β βnow ex-PBS attorney Michael Beller
The BIG Lie: βI also intend to see that those members of Congress who abetted [Trump]; those members of Congress who had groups coming through the capitol that I saw on Jan. 5 for reconnaissance for the next day; those members of Congress who incited the violent crowd; those members of Congress that attempted to help our president undermine our democracy β Iβm going see that theyβre held accountable.β βRep. Mikie Sherrill
Non compos mentis: βSouthern states are not red states. They are suppressed states. Which means the only way that our countryβs going to heal is through the actual liberation of southern states, the actual liberation of the poor, the actual liberation of working people from economic, social, and racial oppression. Thatβs the only way.β βAOC
And lastβ¦ βBanning offensive speech encourages radicals in their extremism. We no longer talk to each other. Too many read and listen only to what supports their point of view and demeans people who believe differently. This is unhealthy for a free society.β βCal Thomas

on this note: “Does free speech Barry mean the freedom to lie?”
Really, that’s a big complicated question. Also worth grinding through. The internet makes it yet more complex. The law vs. reality on the ground even more so. Generally, I’d say ‘yes’ (including sedition), but there are obviously exceptions like provable slander/libel, plus the role of government, the whole business of common carriers, etc. I could stand to know more about it.
