No days unalert; … alertness when most necessary, is always missing, and not to give the matter a thought is to be slated for destruction. Gracian #264
George Rebane
Over the years to this day we have seen that our leftwing neighbors don’t have much truck with concepts like nuance or shades of gray. Their more simple worldview resides comfortably in the corners of the extreme – for them the needle is always pegged: yes/no, black/white, racist/woke, 0/1, socialist/capitalist, … . (Bang-bang policy in control theory) This embrace of simplicity goes back to the Bolshevik revolution and continued all throughout the 5-year civil war that followed.
During that terrible strife, communist partisans would stop trains of ‘White Russians’ fleeing the already consolidated Red areas. They would have the passengers dismount to line up next to the tracks and show their palms. Those whose hands were found to be soft and/or uncalloused were executed on the spot as bourgeoisie enemies of the people. There was no middle road to be examined, nor any propensity to do so. Terror was the name of the game, and to make their omelet, some necessary eggs had to be cracked.
A more brutal version of this was carried out by the NKVD in the Baltics when the Soviets invaded in 1940. The reign of stark terror lasted most of the first year as tens of thousands of Estonians (and similar numbers of Latvians and Lithuanians) were summarily executed or rousted at 3am with a 15-minute warning to prepare for a one-way cattle car trip to the Siberian gulag. My electrician father made the ‘enemies’ list which was leaked to him, and allowed him to gather my mom and me to head into a deep forest near my grandfather’s farm. There we spent the next six months living in a hole in the ground covered with branches and boughs while the partisan bands roamed the countryside with their lists of the condemned.
My uncle Leo was not so fortunate. He, along with more distant members of our clan, was caught and executed. Somehow, my great-aunt Alvina Maksimov (to the family she was ‘tädi Alvi’) survived a horrendous series of NKVD interrogations. She ran the leading fashion house in Estonia and therefore was an obvious capitalist. She was also the wife of Adm Maksimov, former commanding officer of the czar’s Baltic fleet. (Of course, the admiral himself was in deep hiding somewhere unbeknownst to his wife.) For weeks during the summer of 1940 she was told to report to the NKVD headquarters in Tallinn. There, after waiting for hours with other similarly summoned souls, she would be ushered into a bare room containing a wooden table and two chairs on one of which sat the NKVD official with her file in front of him along with his Nagant revolver conspicuously displayed. Two Red Army soldiers stood guard in the room.
The interrogation ended with your being allowed to walk out the door you came through, or your body being carried out the other door to the room. All that was heard in the waiting room was a pistol shot. It was that simple; no appeals to a middle ground where extenuating or mitigating circumstances could be presented and considered.
But that state of affairs was not reached by the Bolsheviks in one giant step. No, it took many small steps during which certain individuals began to be publicly ostracized, shamed, silenced, refused, accused, indicted, arrested, and so on over a period time during which the new regime was busy segregating its enemies while promising a rosy future for the growing horde of compliant constituents. This took less than ten years; by the end of the 1920s Stalin was already killing the irredeemable and deplorable non-compliants by the tens of millions in the Ukraine and the gulag.
In our land the first firm steps toward homogeneous behavior and beliefs have already been taken, and the next more firmer steps to identify and segregate the non-compliant are being outlined daily and brought to bear weekly. The ascendant Left has made it clear that they have no intention of wanting to heal the country’s divide. Their power is now such that more direct action is possible to proceed with their ongoing fundamental transformation of America. If some vestiges of nuanced resolve remain, these will be systematically purged from the new policies and diktats that are promised henceforth to blanket the land.
As an example of the depths to which we have already descended, we hear today that Mollie Hemingway, the senior editor of the conservative The Federalist is on the list to have her voice be silenced. And she is merely an ancillary in the entire process to shut down and/or deny availability of the major social media and internet mass communication channels to those about to be cancelled. (more here)
For some reason I can’t explain, I still believe that the Harris/Biden administration, along with their Team Pelosi/Schumer congressional comrades, will not be able to bring the country to its knees in this round, although they will continue to make gains. Their final push will require more than the 80M devotees of the least accomplished and corrupt duo to inhabit the West Wing in a century. They need more time to drill into the nation’s light thinkers such woke concepts as critical race theory and the evils of ever-present systemic racism and white supremacy movements. However, there is nothing yet on the horizon to stop them from executing that schedule; most certainly not the current cohort of weak-kneed Republicans whom Trump has left more directionless today than ever. And forget about the so-called middle roaders, those who only wrap themselves in their yellow stripe and bow to whichever extreme is winning.
PS. For a more local harbinger of all this, see today’s op-ed ‘No space for compromise’ by the newspaper’s editorial board in the 9jan21 Union.
[10jan21 update] Rush to impeachment – Take 2. Tens of millions of Americans saw nothing inciting to insurrection (or sedition) in Trump’s Wednesday speech. If others did, then the best the country should make of it would be a public debate on the perceived deportment of the President. Instead, we have the Dem leadership inciting impeachment for nothing but short-term political gain with their party’s radical leftwing. Most certainly the Dems care nothing about how this ridiculous eleventh-hour impeachment attempt further seals the great divide (lower case) in our nation, and gives added support to the notion that they have an even more pernicious agenda in mind for our country. Parts of this are being revealed daily in the hysteria by the Left’s corporatist allies to shut down communications that counter their cause – truly an evil bunch down to the marrow of their bones. (more here)
Speaking of real sedition, did everyone pick up on Mrs Pelosi’s attempt to inject herself into the military command chain yesterday? It was her call to General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, asking him to ignore further orders to the military from the President, and instead to consult with Congress (i.e. herself) before taking any actions. Her avowed basis for this despicable attempt was to save the world from a nuclear holocaust that Trump might trigger, a basis without any basis save another illegitimate power grab. The WSJ records this turn of events in its 9jan21 edition – ‘A Coup of Pelosi’s Own’.
[11jan21 update] Where can one find Trump’s Wednesday ‘impeachable’ speech, you know the one that launched the assault on the Capitol? The actual speech had none of what the rabid Left and their Democrat leadership are claiming, and so it has been cancelled on the internet – sorta like constantly rewriting history, news archives, and the airbrushing of photos in the USSR during the Stalin era. By all reports of people listening to Trump on that day, the speech was a long and tedious nothing-burger. People who left early for the Capitol found that the building had already been breached by the mob composed of people who clearly got their marching orders way before anything that the President could have said. But all of that makes no nevermind to the dedicated Dems bent on one last TDS hurrah, and that requires that the public will not be able to find anywhere on the lamestream media those “incendiary” words that constituted the alleged damning and “seditious” call to “insurrection”. Well, it’s hard to bury anything completely on the internet, so with a little poking I found that the Arabs on Aljazeera have posted the transcript of the Wednesday speech in its entirety (here). Now I again invite anyone – especially of our Left – to cite the impeachable words that launched the Capitol mob.
[12jan21 update] National Propaganda Radio’s chief counsel Michael Beller was recorded in a lengthy session by Project Veritas advising that if Democrat nominee Joe Biden lost, people should “go to the White House and throw Molotov cocktails.” (more here) There is no record of his having to walk back these remarks, or being booted from social media accounts. But then, that’s understandable since he’s a leftwing TDS sufferer. The revelation of new double standards has become a torrent since the conservatives’ Washington protest, and the assault on the Capitol. Reading the lamestream, one is led to believe that the record of leftwing street demonstrations is as clean as the fresh-driven snow. Some intellectual basis for the Left’s claim is expertly fashioned by two reports from George Washington University’s Program on Extremism – ‘Surveying the Landscape of the American Far Right’ and ‘White Supremacist Terror: Modernizing Our Approach to Today’s Threat’.

Dear Dark Days Diary
I was reminiscing about the immediate aftermath of the 2016 election. The Union and Lamestream Unhinged Media ran articles and opinions how much people feared for their POC friends and relatives. What would they think. Even the Wa Compost ran an article from a rather homely writer that she could not even think of dating when her sisters were hurting across the land. The Union ran a column from a overweight gal from the Sacramento area echoing the same sentiment. She must comfort her Latinx step-daughter and friends in the homosexual community! No time to think of ourselves. People are hurting! They need Mother Hen to comfort her babies.
Like Melissa Glick yelling to “keep your hands off the children”….the children being 6’7’ 300 lbs collegiate Division 1 football players, lol. Or UCSB “Professor Porn” attacking a young girl standing quietly in the free speech zone passing out pro-life tracts. Professor Porn charged into the scene, assaulted the young lady and tore up her sign. The reason? The grossly obese Professor Porn (the name her students fondly called her) raced to the scene in a fit of rage “to protect her children, her babies”, ROFLMAO. Anyway, I have digressed per normal.
What stuck me most at the time was their constant references to the Declaration of Independence, not the US Constitution. Life, liberty, open borders, and a welcoming environment for all.
In just 4 short years, the progressives have positioned themselves to tear up the DOI. That clause in there about inalienable rights has to go. An humongous antitheses to the secular state which all Commie progressive countries share. No to inalienable rights, yes to silencing those who believe inalienable rights that proceed big government. Blasphemy! Heresy! Enemies of the State, for sure. No inalienable rights in progressive land.. Rights derive from the Great White Father in Washington, not we the people.
Silence them. Wait, silence is violence. There is good violence and bad violence. Everything is relative. Toss personal morality and ethics aside for group morality and ethics. The individual must go…..along with the antiquated racist White Supremists notion of Individual rights, inalienable rights. Tear it down.

The rioters and looters were encouraged by the President to march to the Capital after the demonstration and that he’d be marching with them.
Direct quotes from Trumps speech
“I want to thank you very much, and they go off to some other life, but I said something is wrong here, something is really wrong, can’t have happened and we fight, we fight like hell, and if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.
Our exciting adventures and boldest endeavors have not yet begun. My fellow Americans, for our movement, for our children, and for our beloved country, and I say this despite all that has happened, the best is yet to come.
So we are going to–we are going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, I love Pennsylvania Avenue, and we are going to the Capitol, and we are going to try and give–the Democrats are hopeless, they are never voting for anything, not even one vote but we are going to try–give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don’t need any of our help, we’re try–going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country. So let’s walk down Pennsylvania Avenue”.

Good short article, one of hundreds.
‘Media Outrage Over Capitol Riot Isn’t About Defending Democracy, It’s About Wielding Power’
For our political and media elites, the capitol riot on Wednesday is the perfect excuse to ‘cleanse’ the country of Trump supporters.
“A lot of people on the right have noted the supposed hypocrisy of media elites like Klein, but it’s not really hypocrisy because Klein and his comrades don’t really have a problem with violent mobs storming into buildings and smashing windows, so long as they agree with the mob’s agenda. That’s why corporate media was so tolerant of much larger and more dangerous mobs destroying American cities for months on end last year. When Black Lives Matter rioters stormed city halls and police stations, burned down churches, and ransacked shopping districts in major U.S. cities, killing dozens and destroying livelihoods, the media offered support for the rioters’ cause, which they invoked time and again to justify their criminal acts.
That’s why CNN’s Chris Cuomo said, “Please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful.” That’s why his colleague, Don Lemon, compared the riots to the Boston Tea Party, saying, “This is how our country started.”
That’s why Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued “the whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.” That’s why incoming Vice President Kamala Harris urged her supporters to contribute to a fund to pay bail for militant anarchists who set fire to Minneapolis. That’s why reporters at MSNBC and CNN described fiery, riotous scenes as “mostly peaceful protests”—sometimes while buildings and cars burned in the background.”….
“But the media, which sowed the wind all year long with loose talk about riots, did far more to bring down the whirlwind on Wednesday than Trump did. When you argue for months and months that there’s nothing wrong with rioting or mob action or fighting with the police, and that we have to try to understand the rioters and their complaints, don’t be surprised if a certain segment of the population takes you at your word.”
happen to think both these sets of claims, on the BLM side and the Trump side, are misguided and wrong. But not our media elites. They are squarely on the side of the BLM mob and against the MAGA mob, and they have zero interest in trying to understand why all those people showed up at the capitol on a Wednesday in January.
“They do, however, have a keen interest in cracking down on the wrong kind of mob. Their outrage isn’t just a performance or a pose. It’s also a mask hiding something worse than hypocrisy: anticipation.”

After a year (well, decades, but a whole lot in the last year) of Leftist building burnings and general craziness (including in multiple government statehouses and Senate offices, Supreme Court hearings, etc), 100 people or so break into the Capital. Corporatist America and it’s street armies are outraged. Round ’em all up they scream. For basically the first time in modern times the right got militant. ‘Right’ meaning ‘people who hold beliefs that were nearly universal 20+ years ago’.
Will radicalism on the right increase? Will the Biden administration and it’s street armies help that along? Could be. It’s all part of that great unifying effort by the new President. Given the Left’s dominance, admittedly a thin dominance politically, pushing pushing pushing should make for some great TV. Just wait for Patriot Act 2.0 and the gun bans this summer.

Andy Ngo mentioned that a few days ago. I keep a pretty close eye on his Twitter feed since it’s one of the few ways a person can get raw footage of what’s really happening out there. Sometimes I wonder if our local folks on the left (whatever ‘left’ means anymore) are simply never exposed to that. Without a handful of guys like Ngo on (usually) Twitter, most of the street army news would simply fall down the memoryhole. It isn’t like CNN is going to run footage of the 200th building burning and glass smashing, it’s as if it never happened.
We should probably share a list of sources. I’m mostly interested in people who aggregate quotes/video of public officials and raw footage of mass behavior. Editorials are uninteresting since few of them are highly informed.
What I’m waiting for is someone with anger management issues to push back harder than merely a form of football-with-pepper-spray. It isn’t like Biden is going to be able to control his shock troops.

Agreed. While the local newspaper is reflective of living in Hillary County and now Biden County, I am still left with my jaw dropping each time I read the comments. Every darn time, no exceptions. Those who post comments actually believe the 2 billion dollars in scorched earth Antifa/BLM riots are actually damage done by the Proud Boys (whatever they have evolved into or what they stand for) or other such nonsense. They are so confident and arrogance spouting their misinformation, aka, their true ignorance of violence of the past year(s).
I have come to realize they have not been exposed to anything different than the mantra of which they parrot. And they still say to this hour, “There are good people on both sides” as if Trump was referring to and condoning racists and law breakers and bad people. Ah, heck, that has been refuted 100 times 6 ways to Sunday when taken in context. Play tape again? Argue with them? Waste of time. I know longer condemn those who are truly “not knowing”. Can’t blame them or assign nefarious motives to them when I give them more than a 9 mile wide benefit of the doubt. The truly live in blissful ignorance, so why burst their bubble. The bubble is most likely impregnable anyhow.
Their other one-liner is “kids in cages, kids in cages, kids in cages, kids in cages” to add to
refrain “Good people on both sides, good people on both sides.” I have been tempted to jump in there and state in no uncertain terms that their poster boy picture of little brown children in cages that they point to was taken in 2014. And the little girl crying for her mom who was standing 6 feet away taking to Border Patrol agents at night (darkness) getting information from Mom. Mom and little tired girl were both standing there a very few feet apart with Mom turning her back on the child to talk with the Agent.
Waste of time. “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” was the United Negro College Fund’s excellent ad campaign that ran for years. Agree with that ad campaign.

The Dark Says are still with us according to the FBI:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is warning of plans for armed protests at all 50 state capitals and in Washington in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, stoking fears of more bloodshed after last week’s deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol.
An internal FBI bulletin warned that, as of Sunday, the nationwide protests may start later this week and extend through Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration, according to two law enforcement officials who read details of the memo to The Associated Press. Investigators believe some of the people are members of some extremist groups, the officials said. The bulletin was first reported by ABC.
“Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the U.S. Capitol from 17 January through 20 January,” the bulletin said, according to one official. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

This is the vaccine delivery system that Roberta Cross, Nevada City’s most boisterous menopausal harpy, defended the other day (in reference to a post of mine that went into the Typepad circular file).
I guess the New York mob knew what they were doing when they suggested Governor “Straight from Central Casting” Cuomo would probably be a better fit for politics than organized crime.

How can someone respond to a post that was trashed in the first place? You are like an addled dog barking at the wind.

Ahhh…..isn’t that just like a woman…..
Actually Bertie you did respond because when I raised the issue of just how shoddy the vaccine rollout was you returned the devastating riposte that it was “Trumps Government” that was causing the problem even though it’s being handled at the state level.
Where it went after that……?
