With major ongoing national issues, I’m starting what would appear to be bespoke issue-dedicated sandboxes. Let’s see how well/long this works out.
A reader sent me a link that supports arguments I and others here have made as to why the US has its reported Covid case and mortality numbers. The Left has effectively screamed all summer long and into the fall that these were due to President Trump’s mishandling of the nation’s C19 response program. Well, they were wrong on multiple accounts, but with the lamestream’s help, this continuously broadcast message convinced enough people to give us the currently reported and contested election results.
The actual reason for the difficulty in reducing our numbers to that of smaller, more culturally cohesive countries is that we are a large polyglot nation, now highly polarized, and of many cultures, ethnicities, and political persuasions. Belgium, a much smaller nation of 11M, but otherwise similarly afflicted also demonstrates even higher C19 rates (more here and H/T to reader). And it doesn’t look like this level of America’s ignorance will be surmounted any time soon – especially now that K-12 schools are starting to embrace ‘critical race theory’ big time.

The prime mishandling of C19 by trump, was his insistence that masks were not the answer, pretty much all the way into this Fall. Do you hold this same view still? if not, when did you make the switch? I bought my first N95’s in January, 2020.

They have aging bodies with the usual afflictions of aging. But Covid is the accelerant that allows the aging bodies’ gremlins to gain the upper hand and kill way sooner, than would have otherwise happen. Are you still serious pretending that Covid is not a prime assassin here? And that when today’s 30 year olds, hit sixty, it will not strike them, just as dead, if it is not exterminated? Needs to be done, especially before it mutates further.
Making numbers look prettier does not bring 300,000 back to life.

Disagree George – Trump, by his polarizing nature and reluctance to do much if anything to support mask wearing and social distancing; and his repeated macho rantings and ravings against the actual science, his refusal to wear masks, belittling Biden for wearing a mask and social distancing, etc. gave the message to millions of his MAGidiot followers that masks were a vast left wing conspiracy.

Science?
Like the “scientists” at WHO telling us the virus was not communicable?
Like the people that follow all the rules and still get the virus?
Like the Dems telling us to go out in public and ‘mingle’?
That science?
Keach tells us he bought an N95 in January. So obviously people could take plenty of precautions all on their own without any help whatsoever from the govt. The various governors handled the situation as they saw fit from their perspective.
You leftys claimed that the conservatives and Christians would all die because they followed Trump.
Sorry – didn’t happen.
Blaming all the deaths on Trump is idiotic and based on absolutely no ‘science’ whatsoever.
The people that ended up getting extremely ill or dying that expressed regret for their actions all admit they were warned.
The thing that ends up really pissing off all you bed-wetting leftys is that conservatives tend to be the type of people that acknowledge the information and risks and then take the responsibility for their own actions. I refuse to hide in my house or see our economy wrecked because of a virus that has only a very slightly higher chance of killing me than any of a whole host of dangers in the real world. My wife and I wear a mask in stores and restaurants because they ask us to and we figure it’s no big deal to keep them happy. The risk of transmission through other ways is just as real and often totally ignored. Telling lies about Trump does nothing to help get rid of the virus. The vaccine availability is being ramped up and soon everyone that wants one will get the shots. Trump did many things that were within his legal authority (mainly speeding up the availability of the vaccine) that the left refuses to acknowledge.
I’m sorry all you soy-boys felt like pussies because Trump didn’t like wearing a mask for a while.
Once Biden is in office he can start ordering the convalescent hospitals to start packing in the Covid patients. That’s the ‘science’ that Dems follow.

Scott strikes exactly the right note. We wear masks to comfort our neighbors, not because a N95 offers complete protection- after all, what’s the 95 about?
Blaming the President is not only totally unjustified, considering how little actual power he holds over what the states choose to do, it is also small-minded. The ignorant lefties doing this should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately it’s not an emotion they are capable of holding.
Dr. Rebane did a fine job with his two essays of 2 Dec and 7 Dec explaining why there have been no excess deaths because of Wuflu, but our lefties truly are innumerate on a level that prevents them understaniding the two very, very illuminating charts provided therein. Keach, go back and read both and get over your groundless fears. It makes you even less coherent than usual.

At no point in time can I recall “Lefty’s” opposing the pumping of 26 Billion of USA tax payers moneys into the vaccines. The effort was starting long before Trump tried to claim it as his own personal property. I just wish there had been a concurrent effort to make the N95 or higher rated masks here in the USA, like starting at the same time I purchased mine, which I viewed as a patriotic push to ramp up production. My mask of choice now is the 3M 6000, full face protection with P100 pink and yellow filters plugged in, $24 the pair and $150 for the mask. My daughter has a fellow surgeon who uses the same rig.

11:24 and 11:31 Thanks for the input, Doug. You’ve done what you’ve felt necessary to protect yourself. You didn’t need any help from any govt. The social distancing and hand sanitizing needed absolutely no help from the feds. This confirms what I pointed out months ago. The single biggest way to stay safe (your personal idea of safe) lies with the individual. The govt’s role lies in getting accurate info to the public and speeding up the vaccine production (which Trump did).
Right now the mayors and governors are wrecking our economy by denying people the right to operate their businesses with customers who want to patronize them. You leftys can hide under your beds. No one is stopping you. Please let others have their right to do as they please. No one is forcing you to go to restaurants or barber shops.
I find it fascinating that the left is quick to blame Trump with no proof of what he did was wrong, yet ignore the fact that the Chinese govt lied about the virus and hid what they knew. That’s not ‘patriotism’ – that’s willful blindness caused by TDS. And it doesn’t help us get through this pandemic.

Dougie, that N95 masks should be left to patient providers has nothing to do with global warming… there aren’t enough N95’s in circulation for the current demand… let alone demand were individuals to start clamoring for them. But the medical staff who would be wearing them are actually expected to work with a patient who is or might be sick with the Wuhan SARS.

Mortality numbers are where it’s at. The last SARS was more widespread, but less deadly. We all dodged a bullet then. The Administration was flying by the seat of its pants and finally VP Biden (the point man Obama assigned the task to) threw up their hands and gave up contact tracing after over 60 million Americans were infected, according to Ron Kline…VP then Biden’s chief of staff and long time Biden aide. And current chief of staff. :). N1H1 or whatever origin name you give it without saying China. The Congo virus? Swine Flu? Eloba? Anyway…..
“It is purely a fortuity that this isn’t one of the great mass casualty events in American history. It had nothing to do with us doing anything right. It just had to do with luck,” Klain said last year at a biosecurity summit. “If anyone thinks that this can’t happen again, they don’t have to go back to 1918, they just have to go back to 2009, 2010 and imagine a virus with a different lethality, and you can just do the math on that.”
Klain, who is currently an advisor to the Biden campaign, has since backtracked on his comments, specifying that he was only talking about the challenges in producing enough H1N1 vaccine for the public demand.
In late July 2009, the Obama administration promised there would be enough H1N1 vaccine to immunize 160 million Americans at the beginning of the flu season, but ended up with just 28 million.

None of the above is to minimize the mortality rate we face today from the Wuhan Virus. Air borne virus that is contagious. What I am pointing out is that in every playbook for battle, the plan
goes out the window once the shooting starts from both sides.
————
Since mortality rate is the Bottomline, then how come our schools are shut down????? In a state of 40 million there have been zero cases of Covid deaths of student to teacher transmission. In another major metro area (NYT I recall? ) there has been a total of 2 cases believed to been the result of student to teacher transmission. It’s it not even enough to be to make it statistically relevant or show up as a blip on the radar!?!?!?! So, why are our schools closed? What is the death rate of those 50 and under, as are most teachers? What is the rate of transmission from pupil to teacher, with or without death? Hmmm? Anybody? Forget schools. What is the rate of child to adult transmission of C-19?
The good news is that homeschooling has doubled after parents see, some for the first time, what they are teaching our 6 and 7 year olds at school. All circus and zoo animals are mistreated! It’s all man’s fault, we are killing Bambi and Pooh Bear and Tigger too in the 100 acre wood, blah, blah, blah. The kids are falling behind, cannot keep up with Math or English Comprehension, but By Golly, they got taught a week’s worth of Systemic Racism and White Privilege….in the classroom! Open a classroom for that special teaching where parents cannot peek in, like on ZOOM. Oh, the harm we are going to our children by social distancing them from each another.
To top my “outburst” off, there is a growing number of those in academia with PhD’s in education who are advocating making home schooling illegal. One needs to look no farther than the Harvard Review. It’s not for the children, that is for sure. This is one time our task master experts refuse to follow the science.

ARE SHUTDOWNS LEADING TO YOUTH SUICIDE?
“They are, according to this article in the Washington Post. And why wouldn’t they be? As a result of shutdowns and lockdowns, teenagers are not going to school, not playing sports, and not hanging out with friends. That’s a formula for depression and, in too many cases, suicide.
The Post’s article, which appears in the sports page, focuses on the denial of opportunities to participate in sports:”
—
“The lead researcher of the study at Wisconsin, Tim McGuine, said in an interview in August that “the greatest risk [to student-athletes] is not covid-19. It’s suicide and drug use.”
—
I would amend that last statement slightly. In my view, covid-19 poses very little risk to student athletes. The likelihood that a healthy teenager will die from this virus is almost zero. The likelihood that a healthy parent or coach — typically people in their 30s and 40s — will die from the transmission of the virus due to sports outings is also small. Older parents and parents with conditions that put them at risk can hold their kids out of sports. At risk coaches can opt out.
Liberals like to talk about “the kids,” as in “we’re doing it for the kids.” But the liberals’ response to the coronavirus, given the effects of that response on young peoples’ mental health, shows these claims to be self-righteous posturing. I’m not sure for whom they are locking down schools and youth sports — maybe for the teachers’ unions — but it’s certainly not for the kids.
