Power went out again on Hind Tit Rd at 10:50am this morning. When Jo Ann called it in, they had no clue that an entire ridgeline neighborhood in the community was without power. In a call back they gave no reason other than that they would send a technician to “investigate” and provide an update at 2pm. At that time three hours later, they reported that they were still “investigating the reason for the outage.” It’s noteworthy that we Californians (at least most of us) have become completely inured to having our power today being supplied by a third world utility. There is no hew and cry from the public about these frequent outages; as in countries like Venezuela, it has become the norm. Some of us still remember, back before the state became a Democrat political monopoly, when we had reliable utilities. Power outages were few and far in between. Incompetent public utility commissions and utility managements were responsive to their overlords of varying political hues. When parties frequently changed power, it was harder and more expensive to bribe both of them than to keep today’s single and reliably stable political party off your backs, and keep doing the same ol’ same ol’. Easy money.
Reflecting on the above, consider how we have already arrived at an unresponsive government that regularly tells its citizens to go pound sand if they complain about poor maintenance and services provided to the public sector. And also consider how this will more closely match the world's authoritarian regimes as time goes by, while today the double dummies still stuff ballot boxes with ever more demands for gimmes and wealth transfer programs. The more government promises to tax and provide for us, the less benefit we get – 'twas ever thus.
More later.
