Its going to be a real nail biter, I tell ya. If you agree with MSM (I do) that Trump voters lied to the pollsters in 2016, add a solid 2-4% more to whaterever the 2016 Lying For Trump percentages were. After 5 years of being hunted down and singled out, you betcha a whole bunch will lie to the stranger with a clipboard. Its to keep the peace and harmony.
I look at the small stuff. Seniors in FL (D’s) movement towards Orange Man Bad, a county in Penn or Ohio (D) that is historically in the blue column (except for the Reagen Democrat era) is hitting 56%-to a whopping 70% Trump support. The salt of the Earth, know tough times. A drop or two here, a spoonful there, it all adds up. Pretty soon its time for the voting booth. Alone, just man and his/her God. It is at that moment the shamed and ‘talked down to’ man or woman raises her arm and gives the media and elites and shot callers one big humongous middle finger.
Another problem with 2016 was state polling in some states (think Blue Wall was outdated, infrequent, a newspaper or some college you never heard of poll…it sucked.
So, was 2016 an anomaly (spell check off) and conventional wisom returns in 2020? 2016 was the year conventional wisdom went out the window. Crowd size doesn’t matter!

There is absolutely no sense in keeping power off to inspect power lines in built-up areas where all potential fires are accessible and the fire department is less than ten minutes away. Turn the goddam power back on and then inspect away all you want.

Given the record of the relative frequency of such fires, I would have no problem handling the stress if any. Also, now we’ve had upgraded maintenance of the long lines for almost two years. The risk from vegetation in inaccessible areas has been virtually eliminated or greatly minimized. Most reasonable utility functions would be optimized by leaving the power on, and starting inspection flights and appropriately prepositioning firefighting units when the weather calls for it. I think the probabilistics and the uninterrupted revenue streams would support such a policy. The marginal cost of early/multiple inspection flights and timely removal of detected problems would be more than paid for by the ongoing revenues. And we haven’t even started considering the collateral and human costs of power outages. If these attributes were to be included in the utility function, then keeping the power on policy would be a slam dunk.
