[What remains the point of debates which are empty of citations that are commonly accepted by the debating parties? As I have pontificated here for some years, and am now joined by my betters like Victor Davis Hanson among others, we are so polarized that we no longer share any cognitive common ground. In other words, we arrive at venues like RR, not only with our own opinions, but also with our own unique βfactsβ (thereby giving lie to Sen Moynihanβs dictum). The ensuing melee is then composed of nothing but ejecta of hot air flung at the other which make no lasting impact, let alone changing anyoneβs beliefs. And yet, β¦ and yet we continue to regularly assemble on both sides of this arena to dance our ferocious dances, making threatening sounds while shaking our spears and shields at the other side, like the natives of primitive tribes or beasts of the jungle that learned to wage faux βwarsβ without really harming each other. Realizing this, perhaps we can all join in the attempt to discover the point of it all. gjr]

HOLY SHIT!! Did Emery really ask that?
Your memory IS that far gone.
Yes Emery!! Now.. Can’ you actually remember what got Nixon run out of office?
So your saying “O”‘s weaponization of the FED gov against his “enemies” was fine and dandy? (IRS, DOJ, FBI, NSA)
Can you confirm that?
A far cry that 18 1/2 minutes of erased tapes.

You’re accusations agaisn’t Obamam areare long way from becomming established truth Walt. You knos that. Remember Nixons enemy list? this might refresh you.
The official purpose, as described by the White House Counsel’s Office, was to “screw” Nixon’s political enemies, by means of tax audits from the Internal Revenue Service, and by manipulating “grant availability, federal contracts, litigation, prosecution, etc.”[5] In a memorandum from John Dean to Lawrence Higby (August 16, 1971), Dean explained the purpose of the list:
This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration; stated a bit more bluntlyβhow we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.[5]
The IRS commissioner, Donald C. Alexander, refused to launch audits of the people on the list.

Lol. Good reason.
He went to bed thinking about it, and he woke up thinking about it. Oh my.
Obama made Nixon look like a Boy Scout. Absolutely no comparison. Obama went Nixon x 1,000. Trump will pardon him to heal the nation and get those dark days behind us. Itβs the magnanimous thing to do. We always treat their POWβs better than they would ever treat us. Itβs who we are and also who they arenβt.
Comparing Nixonβs capers to Obamaβs sedition and illicit abuse of intelligence to spy on political opponents to overturn the results of an election via Russian disinformation? ROFLMAO. And Nixon had J Edgar Hoover and still couldnβt come close to what Obama pulled. Not by a mile.
Itβs a mute point anyway. Punchy is just trying to justify voting for Biden. Good rationalization he is trying to push to pulling the Biden lever.
ββ
Which brings up an interesting point. Now that Amy got axed from the VP short list because of her totally bobbling the ball in the Minnesota bad cop cases (bad optics) and Kamala Harris being proven to be a Dirty Cop, who will Biden pick? He will let us know in August.
Another interesting question: Who will the Dems pick for their nominee to save them from Biden?? Gov. Cuomo looked briefly like the Dem savior from Biden, but after Cuomo bobbled the ball and killed grandma, he went from hero to zero…just like Harris.
Who is going to resue the Dems from Biden and be their nominee in 2020?

βDeclassified Flynn Transcripts Contradict Key Mueller Claims Against Flynnβ
Newly released declassified transcripts of call transcripts and summaries between Flynn and Kislyak contradict key claims made against Flynn by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller
βThe transcript of the December 29 conversation, which was cited by Mueller, does not include a request from Flynn that Russia βrefrain from escalatingβ in response to U.S. expulsions of Russian diplomats. According to the transcript, Flynn asked Kislyak for Russiaβs response to be βreciprocalβ so that the U.S.βnot Russiaβwould not be forced to escalate beyond the expulsions. The transcript makes clear that Flynn fully expected Russia to respond to the situation by expelling U.S. diplomats in response to the Obama administrationβs move to expel nearly three dozen Russian diplomats from the U.S., and that his primary concern was preventing a situation where the U.S. would have to escalate tensions in response to Russia.
βMake it reciprocal,β Flynn reportedly said. β[D]onβt go any further than you have to. Because I donβt want us to get into something that has to escalate, on a, you know, on a tit for tat.β
βI really donβt want us to get into a situation where weβre going, you know, where we do this and then you do something bigger, and then you know, everybodyβs got to go back and forth and everybodyβs got to be the tough guy here, you know?β Flynn continued. βWe need cool heads to prevail, and uh, we need to be very steady about what weβre going to do because we have absolutely a common uh, threat in the Middle East right now.β
βWe agree,β Kislyak responded.
Later in the conversation, Flynn again used the word βescalateβ in reference not to a potential Russian response, but to what he hoped the United States would not have to do in response to Russian actions.
βIf you have to do something, do something on a reciprocal basis,β Flynn said. βAnd, and then, we know that weβre not going to escalate this thing[.]β

You cant hid behind being a fakenewsman when you are part of the resistance –
The media’s attitude is purely adversarial, yet they act appalled that McEnany returns fire, albeit calmly, respectfully and eloquently. They uniformly dismiss this Harvard Law graduate as green and over her head, but she is remarkably polished, and it is driving them mad.
It would be different if the media were to use the briefings to help inform the viewing public. But few of them ever ask questions that could better inform the citizenry. Instead, they serve up accusations not even thinly disguised as genuine questions.

My two cents on the corruption of Obama vs Nixon. Compared to Obama, Nixon was a piker when it came to running a corrupt government. His boys couldnβt even pull off a third rate burglary, and his βenemies listβ was lame and sophomoric. Obama subverted numerous federal agencies to do his bidding. He didnβt even have to keep his own enemies list; his IRS and DOJ did it for him. Nixon could barely scrape up one scandal, but Obama had them running hot and cold. Like Trump, Nixon had to fight the media day and night. But the Fourth Estate was Obamaβs fawning handmaiden during his entire reign β crap was consigned to under the carpet, lipstick was painted on every administrationβs pig in sight. Nixonβs enemies suffered naught. Obamaβs enemies suffered dearly, and continue to do so to this day.

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs said on April 27 that, “Shocking new reports suggest F.B.I. General Counsel Dana Boente day was acting in coordination with F.B.I. Director Christopher Wray to block the release of that evidence that would have cleared General Flynn.”
Wray formally asked for Boente’s resignation, but the decision to end his tenure at the FBI came from Attorney General William Barr’s Justice Department, which oversees the FBI, according to two sources.

You brought up popularity? Nixon won a 49-state landslide to be re-elected, Obama was re-elected more narrowly than his first win which was far from a landslide, not helped by your self-confessed failure to endorse his first term. Some reason you didn’t vote for him the second time? -we’ve never been told.
The only corruption actually indulged in by Nixon was his ill-advised attempt to mitigate the consequences reaped by his over-zealous re-election team. Had he not foolishly shown a misplaced loyalty in them (who make up the entire list of perps you cited above), there is scarcely a hint of corruption about the Nixon administration. Agnew was his own crook.
And, for what it’s worth, history judges presidents and if you do a little reading, you’ll find that Nixon is almost universally judged as an effective president (who many people disliked as a person). I am personally slightly ambivalent about the guy- a bit too fond of big government for my tastes.

PaulE 535pm – Your defense of Obama by conviction count is similar to that claimed by mafia bosses. Simple body counts of Obama administration failures speak otherwise. And, of course, there are several more shoes to drop about the sleaze practiced by his DoJ, FBI, intelligence services, and long-lying congressional co-conspirators. BTW, I use βconspiracyβ in its traditionally formal definition. But Iβll give you this any day – Obama is a much better crook than Nixon ever was.

Punchy has stated several times he just comes over to stir the pot. Only reason. MHe gets his jollies off getting a rise out of it. Go ahead and fall for it. I already told Punchy to go fornicate himself awhile back and I, for one, need not repeat myself.
Goalposts moved, per normal. What else is there to say? His AG was the only AG in the history of the US to be held in contempt of Congress. Nobody paid a price for the IRS scandal going after the Tea Party, Fast and Furious, the Iran deal that was so bad Obama refused to have the Senate see it or confirm it….ah hell…waste of time. Obama is neck deep in the biggest political scandal in at least In a century…..and history will be written when all is said and done. Historians will be writing about Obamagate for the next 20, 30 years.
I donβt know what planet you are living on. There are at least 18 major scandals the president presided over: (1) The IRS scandal β selective targeting of conservative groups. (2) Benghazi scandal β cover up. (3) Bowe Bergdahl scandal β traded five Gitmo terrorists for an Army deserter. (4) Iran deal ransom payments. (5) Veterans Affairs death list scandal. (6) Solyndra scandal β $500 million lent to a failed solar company. I could list a dozen more Obama scandals, but it would require too much space….just to cover βthe most scandal free administration in US history,β ROFLMAO.
And nobody went to jail and nobody faced the music for their actions. Thatβs why there was no reason for Obama to stop doing what he was doing. Ok, his buddy who sold Obama his house for an offer you canβt refuse did go to jail, but that donβt count. Being best buddies with Weather Underground domestic terrorist Bill Ayers donβt count either.
We just got to wait and see for it all to play out.. The only way to clean up the political corruption at the FBI, DOJ, CIA, NSA, is for someone to be brought to justice and held accountable for his actions. Obviously Bill Barr does not trust the FBI or Justice Department he took over as evidenced by all the outside of Washington Federal prosecutors with impeccable and unassailable records Barr is using to get the stank out of the Washington swamp.

Never answer any questions especially when cornered and in the spot light, right?

Never claimed that Walt. show me where I did. All I said was there were large numbers of white people protesting and it was not like Watts. Correct me if I’m wrong with documentation.
Unbelievable hat I got you to defend Nixon as an honest leader. Cracks me up.

Yes you did Emery, just two days ago.
Nope, not playing your “go look for it” game.
Your little spat with George. I called you on it, and you send in your crickets.
You got busted spewing crap, because there have been no “violent protests from the Right”.
That’s the game you play. Say something, and ignore the confrontation, and deni ever saying it, in true Paul Emery style.

Ok, Emery…
Lied to the American public on television, “I did not have sex with that woman…Ms. Lewinsky.”
Perjury inquiry results in Clinton being disbarred.
Had the chance to nail Osama bin Laden and failed to pull the trigger. In your thinking, that would make Clinton responsible for all the deaths relating from the 9/11 attacks. Clinton had eight years vs. 9 months for Bush before it happened so no bullshit on it being Bush’s fault.
Carter oversaw massive inflation and skyrocketing interest rates.
Carter stood around and allowed American citizens to be held captive for over a year. Tried an extraction and messed that up, too, resulting in military lives lost.
Johnson and Kennedy, one word…Vietnam.
Kennedy left the Cubans out to dry re: Bay of Pigs.
Truman…dropped two big ones killing innocent Japanese civilians. That’s got to mean something to an old peacenik like you, Emery.
Roosevelt fumbled along with the Great Depression for eight years until a war came along to give everyone a job. And there are questions and theories that he let Pearl Harbor occur to get that war going.
Wilson got us in a war that we had no reason to be in. And then tried to get us into the predecessor of UN and we all know how well that has worked out.
Do you realize that war in the 20th Century began with a Democratic President in office…WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietman??

You might think he was speaking directly to the pony tail of ignorance –
βWhat we saw was a total corruption that before, during and after this transition. It’s incredibly serious,β Johnson said. βWhat we know is corrupt investigations, the misuse of defensive briefings, all the media leaks, and, of course, the Obama administration holdovers.

I actually agree with you on some of your opinions and said so earlier in this chain of comments. My main focus has been on the economy and there is no doubt the three catastrophic economic events in the last 100 years are the Great Depression-1929, the great recession 2008 and the current massive recession and who knows what else. A casual look at history shows that they all occurred after years of a Republican Presidency.
Hoover and Coolidge were Republicans and were in office from 1921 with Coolidge (oh yeah!! Teapot dome) then Hoover in 1929, the year the Stock Market crashed leading to the Great Depression. Roosevelt became President in 1933 and we eventually got out of the Depression.
The next great economic event was the Great Recession of 2008 which was under the President George Bush. He inherited a strong economy from Clinton ( working with the Newt I might add) that left Bush not only a strong economy and but a nearly balanced budget. Eight years later under Bush the economy collapsed. Obama took over and we had eight years of modest growth and the economy was rebuilding and functional when Trump came into office. That brings us up to the present. Record unemployment probably around 5 Trillion dollars added to the deficit with no end in sight on and on.
This quick look shows that the three great economic crashes we have had in the last 100 years occurred during Republican administrations and with at least the previous two recovered under Democrats. Add the Nixon debacle and you have four of the seven Repub Presidents of the last 100 years leaving office with things in a disastrous mess. Yes I know Trump is still in office but I seriously doubt he’s be re-elected but who knows.
This means to me that Republican Presidents are a recipe for disaster that is proven by history.

re PaulE 139pm – I want to point out the futility of debating with Paul in these pages. He did not respond to the historical fact of FDR’s total ineffectiveness in handling the Great Depression. And the Great Recession he lays on Bush2 who actually had NOTHING to do with it as numerous authors and economists have pointed out – just like Clinton had nothing to do with the dotcom bubble. Obama did do everything economically assbackwards that resulted in the historically tepid recovery which resulted by its being held back by every socialist trick available. And now China’s corona virus pandemic and the resulting hit to the economy and bipartisan national debt increase is all laid at Trump’s feet. There literally is no reasonable conversation to be had here.

So George you were satisfied with Bush’s leadership in the lead up to the recession and are you satisfied with Trump leaving us with at least a 5 Trillion dollar deficit in four years after promising that the tax cuts would pay for themselves and he would provide a balanced budget and pay down the deficit in his first four years?
