[What remains the point of debates which are empty of citations that are commonly accepted by the debating parties? As I have pontificated here for some years, and am now joined by my betters like Victor Davis Hanson among others, we are so polarized that we no longer share any cognitive common ground. In other words, we arrive at venues like RR, not only with our own opinions, but also with our own unique ‘facts’ (thereby giving lie to Sen Moynihan’s dictum). The ensuing melee is then composed of nothing but ejecta of hot air flung at the other which make no lasting impact, let alone changing anyone’s beliefs. And yet, … and yet we continue to regularly assemble on both sides of this arena to dance our ferocious dances, making threatening sounds while shaking our spears and shields at the other side, like the natives of primitive tribes or beasts of the jungle that learned to wage faux ‘wars’ without really harming each other. Realizing this, perhaps we can all join in the attempt to discover the point of it all. gjr]

The duplicate mail-in ballot issues come as Allegheny County officials have reached a settlement with the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) to clean up its voter rolls, which reportedly include 1,600 dead people, close t0 7,500 voter registrations flagged as duplicates, 1,523 registered voters who claim to be 100-years-old and over, and 1,178 registered voters who are missing dates of birth.
Still ongoing is Judicial Watch’s lawsuit against the state of Pennsylvania for reportedly having more than 800,000 inactive voters on its voter rolls.

Bad news for the open boarders set and creepy grampa joe –
A business-funded poll backfired by showing that 56 percent of swing voters favor President Donald Trump’s decision to curb legal immigration for 60 days.
Only 15 percent of claimed independents in the May 6-8 poll of almost 2,000 likely voters strongly disapproved of Trump’s April 22 policy, according to the survey commissioned by the D.C.-based Bipartisan Policy Center. Also, 14 percent of respondents declined to state an opinion, suggesting even more support for Trump.
The BPC is a pro-migration advocacy group backed by businesses and run by Washington insiders and corporate chiefs. In 2014, the BPC was a cheerleader for the “Gang of Eight” amnesty and cheap labor bill, which was finally stopped by GOP primary voters in June 2014.
The poll results are a problem for business lobbyists, who fear Trump will extend his popular temporary policy. The results are also a problem for the BPC, which favors a higher inflow of consumers, workers, and renters, which can nudge down wages and drive up real estate values.
The public, in contrast, wants less legal immigration and more jobs and higher wages for Americans.

Rioting and looting are not protests. There is zero room for looting in any protest. Rioting is not a demonstration, just a plain o riot. But you knew that. :).
I remember reading a good long in-depth report in the LA Times during the Rodney King riots that broke out when the officers were not charged. The reporter saw a young man walking with his arms full carrying a stack of Nike shoe boxes he looted. The reporter asked the man if he was looting because of Rodney King. The man being questioned replied, “Rodney King? Which team does he play for?” That was how the article ended.

Eight Times the Liberal Media Screwed Up on Trump-Russia in 2017
#8. Four Does Not Equal Seventeen
The media loved to tweak Trump by repeating how the evidence proving Russian meddling in the election was the unanimous verdict of U.S. intelligence. “All 17 intelligence agencies have agreed Russia was behind the hack of Democratic email systems and tried to influence the 2016 election to benefit Trump,” the Associated Press noted on June 22.
Three days later, The New York Times published a piece that scolded Trump because “he still refuses to acknowledge a basic fact agreed upon by 17 American intelligence agencies that he now oversees: Russia orchestrated the attacks, and did it to help get him elected.”
This media talking point was used by journalists such as NBC’s Andrea Mitchell to speculate about the President’s mental health, as she did on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on June 30: “I’m certainly not a doctor, but I worry about him not having acknowledged the depth of the Russian hacking. We have 17 intelligence agencies all in accord, in a rare degree of agreement, with a high consensus, that it was Vladimir Putin who ordered this.”
But both The Times and The Associated Press eventually back-peddled on those hyped claims, admitting that only three agencies (FBI, CIA and NSA) had reviewed the intelligence, which was then issued by a fourth, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
The Times corrected first, on June 29, admitting: “The assessment was not approved by all 17 organizations in the American intelligence community.” The next day, the AP issued a correction that encompassed four separate articles: “In stories published April 6, June 2, June 26 and June 29, the Associated Press reported that all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies have agreed that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election to benefit Donald Trump….Not all 17 intelligence agencies were involved in reaching the assessment.”
Meanwhile, the media’s mis-reporting remains ubiquitous online, such as this USA Today story from October 2016 with the arrogantly false headline: “Yes, 17 intelligence agencies really did say Russia was behind hacking.”
No. No, they didn’t.

‘Exposing the hoax’
“Mueller’s two Russia indictments, of the troll-farmers and hackers, were always better understood as press releases than criminal prosecutions because everyone knew no Russian would ever be extradited to face the music. But Mueller botched the narrative exercise by charging businesses, evidently not foreseeing that they bore no risks of imprisonment or (as Moscow-based shells) ruinous fines. They retained experienced counsel, who showed up in court, demanded to be given all the discovery, and vowed to take the matter to trial. Ultimately, after first grudgingly conceding that they could not connect the social media ads to the Russian government (though an oligarch said to be close to Vladimir Putin was complicit), prosecutors dismissed the case rather than chance an embarrassing rout at trial. In the run-up, their theory of prosecution was shown to be untenable, and the social media ads themselves were ludicrous — childish, mostly legal under campaign rules, and costing just pennies (the defense claimed the few arguably actionable ones amounted to about $5,000 in expenditures). The suggestion that the troll-farm operation had any effect on the multibillion-dollar ocean of U.S. campaign spending was laughable.
Hacking has taken a hit, too. That is largely because Trump finally dispatched a pit bull to take on the intelligence community. The president eased out acting National Intelligence Director Joseph Maguire, installing in the post Richard Grenell, his hard-charging ambassador to Germany.
Grenell staged a showdown to force Trump nemesis Adam Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, to disclose hearing testimony from dozens of witnesses that had been kept under wraps for over a year. Among the most startling revelations was the testimony of Shawn Henry, president of CrowdStrike. That is the private cybersecurity firm retained by Democrats to conduct forensic analysis on the party’s servers, whose hacking by Moscow is the collusion narrative’s ne plus ultra. The Obama Justice Department and the FBI could have compelled production of the servers to conduct their own examination. Instead, they delegated to the private firm with deep Democratic ties, notwithstanding the latter’s motive to blame Russia and, derivatively, Trump’s campaign. No wonder Schiff did not want the testimony to see the light of day: Henry admitted — under oath, more than two years ago — that CrowdStrike has no solid evidence that Russian government-directed hackers stole the emails.
More brazen still were the admissions by official after official that they had no proof of any Trump campaign conspiracy with Russia. Publicly, former CIA Director John Brennan intimated that Trump was guilty of treason; former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper suggested he was a Putin asset; McCabe bragged of opening a criminal investigation against the president (for obstruction) after Comey’s firing. But in quiet hearing rooms, under oath, they had nothing. No evidence of conspiracy. The pundits knew that. Schiff and the Democrats who choreographed their testimony knew it. They went on for years, though, encouraging the public and foreign governments to believe the president of the United States could possibly be a Kremlin mole. So did Comey, in bracing public testimony in March 2017, by which time it was already patent that there was no case against Trump and his campaign.“

SHELDON WHITEHOUSE BECLOWNS HIMSELF

It sure takes a Republican President to take this country into chaos. There have been 7 Republican Presidents Since and including Hoover. Here’s how they ended their terms
Hoover-the Great Depression
Eisenhower-good stable country and economy
Nixon-Resigned in disgrace after Watergate
Reagan-Successful two terms although massive debt
Bush 1-Only lasted one term
Bush 2-Massive Debt, two ongoing wars and the Great Recession
Trump-massive economic collapse-worst unemployment since the depression’
So you see out of seven Presidencies the Repubs have only two Presidents you can remotely call successful, Eisenhower and Reagan.
So you can see the risk you take by voting a Republican for President.
