Biden’s number gaffe. To me the scariest part of this is that the gaffe indicates he knows little to nothing about the magnitudes that numbers convey. To him a number is a sound and not a quantity that conveys import and meaning. It is a sound to be injected somewhere into a point he is trying to make that requires giving voice to a number, any number. And the scary part is that he intends to sit in the Oval Office with the support of at least half the country (who also don’t know numbers), to make daily critical decisions that depend on understanding not only the quantity that a related number conveys, but its relationship to other numbers conveying similar or supporting information. And he will understand none of it.

I suspect USA will build two routes, Northern and Southern, across the country, of very high speed rail, for passengers. The cars will be capable of swapping out unused seating for cargo modules, to handle FEDEX like service. Interurban service like once connected Sacto & Yuba City, the Red Cars of LA, to the beaches, and of course BART will be expanded and revived everywhere. It seems to me that the real action is far from the Democratic hoi polloi.
A quick (and obvious) example that you’ve no doubt brought up. Urban states (ie. ‘Blue’ states) have serious financial problems coming that have been vastly sped up due to CCP-19. If the stock market pulls a multi-year slump (cratering pension funds and their stupidly high estimates of ROI) and the muni market goes in the shitter, the upcoming election becomes a Do or Die moment for the New Yorks, New Jerseys, Illinoises (is that a word?), Californias of the world. They will do absolutely anything it takes to get their Man in and start writing those checks, bypassing Congress if need be.
It’s a far more serious business with sharper knives than the Blue Mob and their fascination with Holy Men In Dresses and The Wall will ever own. Worth starting a not-so-civil war over with The Mob as cannon fodder. The ‘Green’ in Green Libertarian was always about money after all.

The C19 pandemic has ratcheted up the schedule on that, plus added a few more states to the fiscally mismanaged cohort. Somewhere along the line the govt workers (including teachers) will have to be told that they were bamboozled by their unions and vote-buying politicians on the amounts they could expect in retirement. The taxpayers are not going to bail them out – the solution is the dilution of the dollar, aka historic inflation.

Several hundred people gathered in Spokane to protest/counter protest the current “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order from Governor Inslee. The group started at the Spokane Arena and marched to the Spokane County Court House. Spokane Police Officers were staged to monitor the event in order to keep the peace and take enforcement measures if necessary.
Today, May 1, 2020, at approximately 2:00pm, protestors descended on the Spokane Veteran’s Arena. From there they marched to the Spokane County Court house where they held a rally calling for the reopening of Spokane County businesses and activities. For the most part protestors obeyed traffic laws, even taking the time to cut through Kendall Yards to avoid having to cross Monroe Street, and the disruption to traffic was minimal.
Once at the courthouse, the gathering continued to be peaceful and no police or law enforcement action was necessary. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation during the demonstration. We’d also like to thank our partners from Spokane County Detention Services, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, and the Spokane Fire Department for their assistance in ensuring this was a safe event for all involved.
