The congressional Democrats have plumbed new depths of unabashed and sickening sleaze as they block the passage of the Senate bill to provide liquidity and relief to the nation’s economy on the verge of depression.  The multi-trillion dollar aid package is designed to prevent bankruptcies of countless companies that provide jobs to millions of Americans and are now attempting to rapidly retool to supply the medical needs to flatten the Wuhan virus infection curve, thereby saving untold families grief. (more here) Instead, led by Team Pelosi/Schumer, the Dems have attached a socialist wishlist of provisions to the bill that have NOTHING to do with fighting the virus and saving the economy.

Besides demogauging another one of their material Big Lies that the bill is a “slush fund” and a “bailout” of corporations, as if the corporations were the cause of the pandemic, these socialist sleazebags want to piggyback on this crisis to pass anti-capitalist provisions that they could never accomplish during normal times.  The want to revise laws that will implement many of the Green New Deal provisions on corporate board memberships (unions, activists, and workers), and that henceforth the government will have a major say in how individual businesses are run. (more here)

One of their most onerous provisions is a permanent ban on corporate stock buybacks.  It is clear that such buybacks should not be allowed during the time a company receives liquidity funding from the feds, but the Dems want to remove this important financial strategy forever.  They are either ignorant of or just plain evil in denying such an important market strategy that benefits every participant in such buybacks, including the small investors and holders of retirement accounts.  (more here)

Their aim is to finally start the real fundamental transformation of the country through a government ‘rob-and-ruin’ involvement in company operations.  Since the Dems have no positive or productive policies for generating wealth and jobs, they continue to play the only cards they hold – hate capitalism and hate Trump.  And their constituents don’t have the wherewithal to ask ‘what then?’ after their socialist future comes about.

But all of this is part and parcel of a party that has long been the creator and promoter of the nation’s miseries, highlighted by their support of slavery, then decades of Jim Crow, then the destruction of black families and promotion of urban blight launched by their not-so-Great Society, and now continuing with the dismantling and destruction of America’s educational system. (The complete list is too long to recount here.)  While the Republicans also have warts and have not always been our angels, the policies and politics of today’s Democrats have surely made them into our Demonic Party.

[25mar20 update]  Healthy companies create jobs, jobs pay people, people with money can buy things they need, companies make more such things, and the cycle repeats.  I have yet to find a single leftwinger, let alone socialist, who really understands this cycle.  The role of a thriving private sector economy is so obvious that, when told this, almost all folks of the Left will agree to the need for such a cycle that epitomizes a healthy economy.  And then they blow a tire, because invariably their follow-on remarks turn out to promote economy stifling policies, which gives lie to the claim that they understand.  All this is enormously magnified by the nation's political idiot contingency in Washington and other levels of government across the land.  They simply cannot connect the dots when it comes to wealth creation; they sincerely believe that money (wealth) is created simply by government printing the long green as much as is needed.  There is no comprehension as to what has to stand behind those printed slips of paper (or the equivalently fortuitous bit patterns on some mass memory device somewhere in the cloud).  We see that again in the demonic machinations of Team Pelomer in Congress.  Last October “the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hosted Event 201, a high-level pandemic exercise, in New York, NY. The exercise illustrated areas where public/private partnerships will be necessary during the response to a severe pandemic in order to diminish large-scale economic and societal consequences.” (more here)  Their bottom line, don’t destroy the economy when fighting a pandemic, the resulting damage is a lot worse and longer lasting than what the pandemic can do in an economy that continues to function.  Save the economy to save the people.

btw crabby has gone off the deep end… “Our friends on the right have determined the only way to save the nation is to sacrifice the elderly to the Great God of Monitarism, and the sooner we do it, the sooner the stock market will bounce back from the abyss. … How different they sound from the days when they howled about “death panels” and whined about that TV commercial where Paul Ryan pushes an old woman in a wheelchair off the cliff.”

Gregory 1058am – That is indeed a sad commentary, and confirms again and again the Left’s inability to differentiate and reason in their quest to make public policy – the graves of millions attest to their failure. And today, as our local-left thought leaders again demonstrate, they can’t tell the difference between the death committees of nationalized health care systems, selecting who lives and dies, from the willingness of our older generation to voluntarily assume a heightened risk of death during an emergency so that we can leave an America with a sound economy to our progeny. The leftists’ argument sees no difference in how our seniors may go to their reward, no understanding whatsoever; to them it’s all the same body count.

Dunno why the Blue Mob has such a time imagining that there’s a fine balancing act between quarantine and economy. After all, you need an economy to build ventilators and produce food.
But, pshaw. Anything to win an election. Sadly, the pandemic encourages that most evil of thinking, nationalism. That should be squashed at all cost.
Once again, commercial disengagement from China should be the Prime Directive once this is all over. Maybe it’s time for that argument on comparative advantage again.

It continues to stun me that the Left is stuck in linear thinking. If Ukraine tried to interfere in the US 2016 (as the Ukrainian government’s own interval investigation confirmed) then….then…..then are you saying Russian did not interfere in our elections!.!?!?!
All black and white. They seem incapable of grasping issues that are complex and have multiple causes and effects nor are they adept to holding conflicting ideas on the same issue. Good vs bad, no 50 shades of grey, no 50 ways to leave your lover.
I confess I took a rather sick pleasure in watching them waste week focusing of calling the Wuhan Virus the Wuhan Virus as an blatant overt act of racism. Nothing to due with stopping, slowing, curing the spread of the pandemic or our National Emergency, just distracted over the Greater Good. In this case it’s the lesser of two evils. Trump is a racist is more evil than fixing a very evil and rather nasty problem.

There’s certainly a lesson in the way that all of the various ways of institutionalizing health care have failed in a time of emergency. Truly, they were never set up for that. The handwaving talking heads shouting ‘THIS IS WHY WE NEED MEDICARE FOR ALL’ are just experts at backside smoke blowing. That’s certainly not going to help produce a surge in capacity.
I was interested in the local Blue Mob fussing about how Rethuglicans want to kill all the old people. They should look into the situation in Sweden and the Netherlands to watch how their BFF are handling this.

“We were alone and it was the strangest thing,” she said. “There was no like exchange really. He just had me up against the wall.”
Reade went on to say that she was wearing a business skirt with no stockings because it was hot at the time. While up against the wall, Reade says Biden’s “hands were on me and underneath my clothes.”
“He went down my skirt but then up inside it and he penetrated me with his fingers,” Reade emotionally continued.
Reade also said Biden was kissing her and saying multiple things to her. She remembered a couple of the comments.
“I remember him saying first, like as he was doing it, ‘Do you want to go somewhere else,’” she said. “And then him saying to me when I pulled away, he got finished doing what he was doing, and I kind of just pulled back and he said, ‘Come on man, I heard you liked me.’ And that phrase stayed with me because I kept thinking what I might’ve said and I can’t remember exactly if he said ‘I thought’ or ‘I heard’ but he implied that I had done this.”
Reade then went on to say that “everything shattered in that moment” because she knew that there were no witnesses and she looked up to him. “He was like my father’s age,” she said. “He was like this champion of women’s rights in my eyes and I couldn’t believe it was happening. It seemed surreal.”
Reade then said Biden grabbed her by the shoulders and said, “You’re okay. You’re fine” and proceeded to walk away.
Reade said that Biden also told her something after the alleged assault that she initially didn’t want to share because “it’s the thing that stays in my head over and over.” But after some pressing from Halper, Reade decided to share:
“He took his finger. He just like pointed at me and said you’re nothing to me.”

And where do you guys get this “racist” crap for those who continue to name the epidemic after the location of its source (a long practiced convention)? MJ and Rx are, as usual, out of their minds. As George notes, Wuhan is where it did (not, is thought to have) originated and naming it is thus is perfectly normal. I wouldn’t call it the “Chinese viru,s” not because it’s racist (Chinese isn’t a race) but because like as not they (the Chinese) will probably continue to produce such aberrant disorders on a more or less regular basis. Just a thought, you might want to cut spending in reaction to the new reality I mean all the billionaires left the room already –
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that the stimulus bill passed by the Senate to offer Americans relief during the coronavirus crisis helped unemployment insurance and small businesses but did little to aid local or state governments. He said that what’s happening to any state or city government is “a double whammy” — a loss of revenue as less taxes are paid while businesses are closed and people lose their jobs, coupled with an increase in expenses due to the virus.
The anticipated loss of revenue for New York state is estimated to be somewhere between $10 billion and $15 billion, Cuomo said. The state government receives $5 billion under the stimulus bill, but it is earmarked only for COVID-19 expenses, he said.

I quit using ‘you are what you eat’ several decades ago. I think the slightly more accurate saying is “you are what you digest”. Ask someone you know with celiac disease, or Crohn’s, which of the two sentences is more accurate.
Same for the brain. You are what you read (see, feel, smell, taste…)? Not so. You are what you understand logically, using all of your inputs. I always liked the movie “Short Circuit”. Number 5 wanted more and more input. To what end? It was only when he taught himself the meaning of the word “disassemble” that he truly put together his understanding of reality. Seems those on the left are missing this key part of digesting their inputs.
Side note – as stated in many places, SJW thinking has suddenly receded, giving way to more important realities. Also, no school shootings in the last month. Restricting those 2A rights must be doing its job.
2nd side note – ‘disassemble’ was one of the few words defined in “Reality’s Notebook” from so long ago.
