“Yahoo News reported Saturday that temperatures in Great Britain could reach as low as -14C with “snow event after snow event” expected to hit various parts of the territory.”
“There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm,” they noted. “We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.”
No matter what the winter shapes up to be, there is a 100 percent probability that climate alarmists will find some way to attribute the weather to global warming and carbon dioxide emissions. “

Wood biomass produced about six percent of the country’s electricity in 2016, and Drax burns more of it than any other power plant in the world. “I was married at nineteen and then graduated from college [at the University of Houston] after I’d married,” Warren, then a Harvard Law School professor, said in an interview posted to YouTube in 2008. “My first year post-graduation, I worked — it was in a public school system but I worked with the children with disabilities. I did that for a year, and then that summer I actually didn’t have the education courses, so I was on an ’emergency certificate,’ it was called.
“I went back to graduate school and took a couple of courses in education and said, ‘I don’t think this is going to work out for me,’” Warren continued. “I was pregnant with my first baby, so I had a baby and stayed home for a couple of years, and I was really casting about, thinking, ‘What am I going to do?’”
By contrast, Warren told an audience at a town hall in Carson City, Nev. Wednesday that she had “loved” working as a special needs teacher.
“By the end of the first year, I was visibly pregnant, and the principal did what principals did in those days,” she said. “Wish me luck and hire someone else for the job.”

The Times and Post Push Spygate Cover-Up With Barr Attacks
“One can only ask: What is the Post afraid of? Why they felt need to coverup facts instead of shining a light on them? The answer is obvious. There is a fear that Barr is on to something and that dirty deeds will in fact be exposed. The utter hypocrisy from the paper whose motto is “Democracy Dies in Darkness” — when it is in fact doing everything in its power to see to it that the facts of this Trump-Russia collusion nonsense remain shrouded in darkness — is amazing if unsurprising to behold.
“Over at the Times, that paper is busy running stories like this one by the virulent Trump-hater Michelle Goldberg. This jewel of political framing is titled: “Just How Corrupt Is Bill Barr?”
“Perhaps the real question should be: Just How Corrupt is The New York Times?”
https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/jeffrey-lord/2019/10/05/times-and-post-push-spygate-cover-barr-attacks?
Or, as Roberta Flack would say, “Trump as his goons [Bill Barr]”
Or, as Freddie Blassie would say, “Hey Bobbie, when is that pimple between your shoulders going to form into a head?” What a pencil neck.

“Channelling the Malthusian Roots of Climate Extremism”
“Last year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a report that rests heavily on the idea that poor nations can grow rich while using radically less energy. “Pathways compatible with 1.5°C that feature low energy demand,” IPCC officials said, “show the most pronounced synergies and the lowest number of trade-offs.” The IPCC also repeated a debunked claim that poor nations can “leap-frog” rich nations with solar panels, batteries and energy efficiency, and promoted “bio-energy”—the use of wood, dung and ethanol—fuels that are not only uneconomical, but also happen to come with their own hugely negative environmental impacts. In truth, energy consumption is as tightly coupled to per capita GDP today as it was when today’s rich nations were themselves poor.
“Perhaps the greatest hypocrisy is for people like Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Swedish student climate activist Greta Thunberg to seek to shut down nuclear power plants while claiming the end is coming from climate change. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has endorsed the closure of Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York, which will be replaced with natural gas, while Thunberg attacked nuclear energy on Facebook as “dangerous.” And yet nuclear energy provides the majority of carbon-free electricity in the United States and over 40% of total electricity in Sweden.
“The most doctrinaire and apocalyptic forms of modern “environmentalism” are simply a repackaging of the ideas of Thomas Malthus, the 19th-century British economist who thought that there were too many poor people out there—particularly poor Irish people—and that the ethical thing to do was let them die. “Instead of recommending cleanliness to the poor, we should encourage contrary habits,” he wrote, “and court the return of the plague.”
“Unlike Swift, Malthus was no satirist. He was making a utilitarian argument: If we let the poor reproduce they would just end up creating more suffering in the future. (Indeed, the British government and media used Malthus’ ideas to justify the policies that led to mass starvation in Ireland from 1845 to 1849.) The LaRouchian protestor who spoke at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s thursday event channeled Malthus’ horrifying logic faithfully. And in a more polite form, environmentalists channel it themselves when they urge that poor countries shoot themselves in the foot economically so that the world might be a greener place.
“After World War II, prominent American progressives drew on Malthus’ ideas to oppose development aid and nuclear energy, and promote coerced sterilization. Cheap energy, prominent scientists feared, would lead to overpopulation, deplete scarce resources, and destroy the environment. Humankind “would not rest content until the earth is covered completely, and to a considerable depth, with a writhing mass of human beings, much as a dead cow is covered with a pulsating mass of maggots,” the chemist Harrison Brown wrote in his 1954 book, The Challenge of Man’s Future.”

Interesting survey of 5,000 people. How one thinks society judges success vs how one personally judges success.
The difference between how much Americans believe the “status” domain contributes to the overall understanding of personal and perceived success is substantial. Status drives the perceived definition of how others in society define success but is least important for one’s personal definition of success.
“After status, other top contributors to the overall composition of perceived societal success are education (19.8%) and finance (8.8%). In contrast, personal determinants of success are far more varied, with education (17.1%), relationships (15.6%) and character (15.4%) similarly important. Americans’ personal views of success are far more balanced than the way Americans think others in society view success.”

RobertC 1120am – again you miss the point. The one who asserts or endorses an assertion must bolster it and ‘sell’ it to its audience. Any fool can make unsubstantiated assertions (you’ll agree we have proved in these pages). You have to make the case that Frum “hit the nail on the head”; his just saying it doesn’t cut it.
BTW, you have again demonstrated the deficit in argumentation that progressives have (witness the actions of the Dem House) – ‘I allege and it stands true until someone proves it false.’ Sweet.

MIT researcher Alexander Agadjanian published his latest research in the New York Times, where he revealed that swing voters likely are six percentage points less likely to vote for a Democrat against President Trump in the 2020 election after learning of the leftist policy positions they have embraced.
Likewise, the research found that there is no increase in mobilization to vote in the 2020 election for Democrat voters who learned of the candidates’ endorsement of leftist policies.
“Democrats who read about the leftward positions did not indicate they were more motivated to vote and campaign for the eventual nominee than those who hadn’t read about them,” Agadjanian notes.

Good article by George Will. The Courts and Congress.
“Washington • The beginning of the Supreme Court’s term this week includes momentous oral arguments on Tuesday in two cases that illustrate clashing theories about how statutes should be construed. If properly decided, the cases will nudge Congress to act like a legislative body……
“The 7th Circuit’s minority said that if Hively was denied a job because of her sexual orientation, she was treated unjustly, but not illegally under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It is depressing but clear that the Supreme Court needs to remind Congress — and the 7th Circuit — that “statutory updating” is Congress’ job.”

They try to hide it on a super-secret server and have the information there. They didn’t have those back then in Watergate but it is the same kind of thing.” —Sen. Amy Klobuchar
And last… “Want to reduce carbon emissions? Buy a used car and drive it into the ground. If you buy a new Tesla, you don’t really care.” —Steven Crowder

‘Circle of Jerks’ Our leftist commenters have adopted that label for our rightwing commenters on the false premise that they are not part of this circle, in spite of the fact that their numbers and participation in these vitriolic debates match that of their ideologically subordinated opponents. Are they claiming to discriminate their presence and participation in these comment streams as somehow being of the elite ideologists under whom everyone else is substantially inferior? If so, they have yet to present any evidence to support this aggrandized self-assessment. The inescapable conclusion is that they are also the bona fide and charter members of this contentious circle.

“Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts responded to President Trump’s Syria policy by claiming it is easier to purchase a semiautomatic rifle than it is to purchase Sudafed.”
Maybe she should actually TRY and buy one.

Since it looks like Ruminations will be consumed with Trump giving the nod to Turkey to slaughter the Kurds to protect his hotel interests in Istanbul (or wherever it is), I will continue dwell on the stinkin’ Swamp of the unhinged hysteria Lefty hypocrisy here at the good old Sandbox.

New laws:
U.S.—A series of new bills working their way through state legislatures in New York, California, Oregon, Hawaii, and several other progressive states will require you to listen to a Greta Thunberg lecture before purchasing gasoline.
Motorists will be required to watch a 20-minute lecture by the 16-year-old climate activist before they purchase gallons and gallons of harmful fossil fuels.
“We want to make sure drivers are informed,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom, who says he will sign the bill into law. “So we are having them get lectured by a 16-year-old so they will have all the facts before they do something rash like put gasoline in their cars to go to work.”

Universal Studios Fires Actor For Making ‘Racist’ Hand Symbol In Fan Photo
“It’s more than the ‘OK’ sign,” Richard Zinger, the child’s father, added. “A lot of people don’t understand what that sign means.”
“I’ve been emotionally distraught about it. I’m still pretty upset that someone felt they needed to do this to children,” Tiffiney Zinger said. “It can cause emotional stress on my child and her development.”
