[Anybody have any thoughts about a workable public policy that would sufficiently shield PG&E so that it doesn't have to conduct its CYA power outages? gjr]

“SALEM, Ore. — The first dead bull was found in a timbered ravine in eastern Oregon. There was no indication it had been shot, attacked by predators or had eaten poisonous plants. The animal’s sex organs and tongue had been removed. All the blood was gone.
In the next few days, four more Hereford bulls were found within 1.5 miles in the same condition. There were no tracks around the carcasses. Ranch management and law enforcement suspect that someone killed the bulls. Ranch hands have been advised to travel in pairs and to go armed.”

China-Australia rift deepens as Beijing tests overseas sway
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia’s ban on Chinese telecoms giant Huawei’s involvement in its future 5G networks and its crackdown on foreign covert interference are testing Beijing’s efforts to project its power overseas.
In its latest maneuver, China sent three scholars to spell out in interviews with Australian media and other appearances steps to mend the deepening rift with Beijing _ a move that appears to have fallen flat.
In a recent press conference at the Chinese Embassy in Canberra, Chen Hong, the head of Australian studies at East China Normal University, accused Australia of acting as a “pawn” for the United States in lobbying other countries against Huawei’s involvement in the nascent 5G networks.
“Australia has been in one way or another, so to speak, pioneering this kind of anti-China campaign, even some kind of a scare and smear campaign against China,” Chen said. “That is definitely not what China will be appreciating, and if other countries follow suit, that is going to be recognized as extremely unfriendly,” he said.
A growing number of Australians are convinced that Beijing has been using inducements, threats, espionage and other clandestine tactics to influence their politics _ methods critics believe Beijing might be honing for use in other western democracies.
“Australia is seen as a test bed for Beijing’s high-pressure influence tactics,” said Clive Hamilton, author of “Silent Invasion,” a best seller that focuses on Chinese influence in Australia.
“They are testing the capacity of the Australian democratic system to resist,” he said.
Hamilton’s book was published last year, but only after three publishers reneged on offers to back the book for fear of retaliation from Beijing. It became a top seller.
In comments to a U.S. congressional commission last year he asserted that Beijing was waging a “campaign of psychological warfare” against Australia, undermining democracy and silencing its critics.
In separate testimony, Garnaut, a former government security adviser, told the House of Representatives Arms Services Committee in Washington, D.C., that China’s meddling was aimed at undermining the U.S.-Australian security alliance.
In 2016, Garnaut was commissioned to write a classified report that found the Chinese Communist Party had for a decade tried to influence Australian policy, compromise political parties and gain access to all levels of government.
He has said Australia is reacting to a threat that other countries are only starting to grapple with.
“This recognition has been assisted by the sheer brazenness of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s drive for global influence and by watching Russian President Vladimir Putin and his agents create havoc across the United States and Europe,”

Interesting how Jeff Pelline goes to China in celebration of Chinese 70th year of communism. Not that I am surprised. He is quite the “progressive.” I wonder what the Chinese think of him. I think not a good ambassador for us. 🤔

Mr. Cross. I agree with you that there are very few virtuous politicians, but your unfounded faith in the virtue of Washington career bureaucrats is quite naive given the recent actions of almost every branch of government fighting the president elected to execute the laws. It is so bad that I would actually be supportive of getting rid of civil service laws which seem to dilute the will of the people.

,,,Yo Barry,,,what is also naive is to believe, as Trump lemmings have lock stock and barrel, that Trumpski was going to ‘’’drain the swamp’’’,,,

He did drain the swamp. Got rid of goldfish and replaced it with slime eels and candiru. And a hag fish.

Speaking of asswipes with guns, my Granddaughter was held up at her job a few weeks ago. She actually talked the piece of crap out of it. The cops nabbed the scumbag a few blocks away.
Justice is swift where she is. Court is already over and the LIB spawn got 15 years. When the defence lawyer was questioning her he tried to make a big deal out of the place where she worked. (a smoke shop) “YOU SELL BONGS!” She replied,, “No, we sell tobacco and tobacco products.”
The writers of “King of the Hill” should be proud.

Barry 6:55 — surely you jest! — every branch of gov’t is fighting the prez because he is a blight on our democracy, ignoring the constitution and rule of law in classic gangster style. Trump’s executes the laws alright — by lethal injection..as he and his buddies rake in the dough. To think that the mountain of accusations from Russia and Ukraine to tax returns, obstruction of justice, and emoluments are hype and BS are unfounded and some deep state conspiracy is unbelievable. How anyone can believe such a proven serial liar flies in the face of reason. The only explanation is the blindfold that many pubbers seem to have put on. You all are not patriots as you would like to think of yourselves. Patriots put the country first. You are partisans of the first order. Trump uber allas, right? That you and yours have bought into it hook line and sinker is beyond naive onto the realm of dangerous.
