Don’t Move to Austin. It’s Rotting from Within.
This what happens when San Francisco progressive move to Texas, well so far Austin.
Under their lack of leadership and vision, Austin is becoming undriveable, unlivable, and unsafe. The city’s elected leaders aren’t failing to learn, they’re succeeding at learning how to destroy a city. And the voters, while they are rightfully complaining and signing the petition to rescind the insane camping policy, are likely to not only re-elect the same people again – they’re probably going to vote for even worse policies and politicians next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.
If you’re thinking of moving to Austin, reconsider. The job market is still hot and it’s still nearly impossible to find a bad meal at any restaurant in town. It won’t last forever. Like Seattle, which adopted similar liberal policies, Austin is showing signs of rotting out from the inside – starting at city hall.

Speaking of hate….
“It’s not the NRA stopping gun control, it’s 100 million American gun owners.”
Money quote: Speculations about defeating ‘the NRA’ may titillate the mob, but even if NRA disappeared, there are still 100 million American gun owners, their family members, and their friends.”
—
“Participants in this year’s Democrat presidential debates have also pointed their accusatory fingers at “the NRA,” along with a laundry list of other groups and individuals, including “corporations,” “big corporations,” “the 1 percent,” “big pharma,” “big insurance companies,” “the rich and powerful,” “those with money,” “the special interests,” “PACs,” “the Koch Brothers,” “Mitch McConnell,” and, of course, “Donald Trump.”
Meanwhile, in San Francisco, where vagrants reportedly cover the sidewalks with feces, urine, and needles—a condition aspired to for Austin, Texas, by its mayor, Steve Adler, and its like-minded city council—the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution labeling NRA a “terrorist organization.”
Throughout history, the left has achieved power by rallying its mob, and rallied its mob by giving it someone to hate. Vladimir Lenin encouraged “language which sows among the masses hate, revulsion, and scorn toward those who disagree with us,” Saul Alinsky advised radicals to “pick the target . . . and polarize it,” and leftists continue the practice today.
So, a few days ago, left-wing columnist Michael Tomasky wrote that the gun laws Democrats are now pushing can be imposed if “The NRA Can Be Beaten.” Having worked in the NRA’s political division from 1991 to 2016, I might laugh at Tomasky’s notion, if I had a sense of humor about such things. The left’s everyone-on-message vilification of “the NRA” may inspire high-pitched squeals of approval during the Democrats’ presidential debates and campaign rallies, but anyone who thinks that the NRA is all that stands in the way of disarming the people of the United States has another think coming.”

“Just when we thought colleges could not spout loonier ideas, we have a new one from American University. The professor that American University hired to teach that nonsense is Asao B. Inoue, who is a professor at the University of Washington in Tacoma in interdisciplinary arts and sciences. He is also the director of the university’s writing center. Inoue believes that a person’s writing ability should not be assessed, in order to promote “anti-racist” objectives. Inoue taught American University’s faculty members that their previous practices of grading writing promoted white language supremacy. Inoue thinks that students should be graded on the effort they put into a project.

“There’s another very dangerous bit of academic nonsense happening, this time at the K-12 level of education. One America News Network anchor interviewed Mary Clare Amselem, education specialist at the Heritage Foundation, about the California Department of Education’s proposed ethnic studies curriculum. Probably not for the Sandbox (too long of an article and too European philosophical), but what the hay.
Europe’s Virtues Will Be Its Undoing
“Many people are wondering why it is only Europe that feels guilty, not only for its own past crimes, but also for the faults of others?3 The answer is simple: we dominated the world for four centuries. The empires have collapsed but their memory remains, and this has given rise to an ever-expanding discipline: post-colonial studies. We have become the continent of the uneasy conscience and we wish to show the rest of the world the face of moral law in all its purity. Europe sees itself as a sacrificial offering, through which the entire world can expiate its sins. It offers to assume the shame for every misfortune that befalls the planet: famine in Africa, drowning in the Mediterranean, terrorism, natural disasters, they are all directly or indirectly our handiwork. And when we are attacked—by terrorists, for example—it’s still our fault; we had it coming and are undeserving of compassion. Since we are overcome by such a torrent of sins, all we can do is bear up and attempt to correct and atone for them all, one by one. An unctuous discourse intended to edify is replacing what was once political and historical analysis; an ideal society must replace the existing one of ordinary men, and be cleansed of its impurities. Two areas in particular reveal this delusion of sanctity—immigration and ecology.“

Aha! Which brings us to today’s Constitution Day Parade, referenced by Crabman’s latest cartoon and prior Boardman columns: The March of Slave Owners…in Nevada City!
I was going to go up and protest the slave owners and maybe toss some red paint (waterbased) on the monuments to the destruction of the our environment in front of the Miners Foundry and at the small park across from the National, but it ain’t my style.
Last year the crowds were delighted to have a drunken Betty Ford stagger down the street. This year it might be interesting to see a drunken First Lady with a bottle of Chardonnay in one hand and her husband President picking her off the ground only to have her fall face down into the pavement again as part of the act. That would be hilarious to see Pale Hillary take a few headers. Maybe stuff a pillow to two in the rear of her pantsuit and one in the belly. That certainly would be worth the drive up there to witness the entertainment.
Opps. Nevada City is Hillary Country. Nevermind.

RobertC 822am – Not sure about two wrongs making a right, but RR’s comment streams are full of testimonials from the Left that such policies are totally acceptable when these serve their agendas. My only reason for pointing out 2012 was to counter the charge that somehow the Repubs are doing something new and underhanded in the upcoming primary season. As you see, that is not the case, and the charge was just due to a bit of amnesia.

As the dogs return to their vomit: Kavanaugh
“The reporters, who describe Democrats in glowing terms and Republicans otherwise, say that Stier is a “respected thought leader” in the defense of the federal bureaucracy. They don’t mention his history of working for the Clintons. As for the victim? They say she “has refused to discuss the incident, though several of her friends said she does not recall it.”
“To repeat: Several of her friends said she does not recall it.
“So to summarize, the only new claim in the new book is that a Democratic attorney told two senators that he saw an incident where a third party allegedly did something to Kavanaugh and the young woman. In their book, the authors are upset that this claim didn’t lead to a massive FBI investigation, although they don’t explain why they think it should have.”
