Although Yang does not have a snowball’s chance, he encapsulates the Lefties perfectly. There is no place in your life they believe that government cannot reach into and tell you what to do. What kind of car you can drive, what you can eat, how you travel…..
“None of this is speculative anymore. We need to wake up and let you know that you’re not on your own,” Yang said. “This is not a you problem, this is an us problem. What do sophisticated, advanced societies do? We solve the problems on the ground.”

I do find it amusing that Walt thinks that having some remaining snow fields visible in the Sierra Nevada in September is somehow an indicator that 1) the climate is not changing, 2) this is somehow an unprecedented occurrence, and 3) not acknowledging it as some sort of unprecedented occurrence is a sign of denial that the climate is not changing.
Greg, your buddy needs a tutorial on the difference between weather and climate.
As a resident of the 6000 foot level for more than 39 years now I can anecdotally attest to the fact that we usually have snow fields that last through the summer, usually “visible from Truckee.”
But as someone more influenced by science than the anecdotal I can also attest to the fact that the vast majority of scientists who have studied the issue agree that snowpack is shrinking, has been shrinking for the past few decades, that precipitation is coming in pulses with a higher degree of year to year variation than in previous decades, and that that will have profound impacts on California’s water supply and the timing of its water supply, our storage systems and capacity, snowfall accumulation between 5000 and 8000 feet, particularly in the northern Sierra and Cascade, and the economies and people who depend on it.
    https://www.ioes.ucla.edu/project/climate-change-sierra-nevada/
I know I am just opening the sluice of denialist bullshit that regularly comes form these pages and people, but perhaps a few lurking open minded readers will be curious and explore on their own. 🙂

Steve @ 9:19, notwithstanding a bit of gratuitous snark, your comments appear to be entirely correct. No doubt you are aware that tree ring records (not Yamal trees) are quite useful in showing past rainfall trends and the Ca is well-known for past mega-droughts that lasted decades or even centuries.
Were these caused by higher temperatures back then? If so, then we’ve been here before and if not, you got some explaining to do.
Just for the fun of it, I’d like you to list the extreme weather events of your lifetime that lie outside the range of normal climatic variability; it literally shouldn’t take any time at all, ’cause there aren’t any.
Tornados, floods and droughts are holding steady over the last 150 yrs for which we have reasonable records. Hurricanes, by contrast, are declining in frequency as well as intensity, which is exactly what we would expect in a gradually warming world.
Your attached article was more of the usual crap from my alma mater; I’d be interested in hearing from their engineering department on the subject.
My takeaway from the article is that I’m well advised to pay attention to the historical records of all kinds and ignore the blind modeling so much in vogue among the AGW hoaxters. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Mr. Frisch; I lived in the Modesto area when they built the New Melones Dam on the Stanislaus River in the late 1970s. During that period California experienced a drought. When finished, the experts stated it would take five years to fill the lake behind the new dam. Well, we had a wet winter and the lake filled in one year.
During this last hot spell we had, the forecasters thought Sacramento could break the old record for the high temperature for the date…108 set in 1920.
We have had swings in the weather for years. Just now, people like you are making money off of scaring the hell out of people and telling them we only got ten years, send your money to me so I can save you. You would have been great in the lead in The Music Man.

Top officials at CAP had been searching for a buyer to take over ThinkProgress, which has run deficits for years, and according to sources there were potentially three serious buyers in the mix recently. But in a statement to staff, Navin Nayak, the executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, said the site was ultimately unable to secure a patron.

    Frisch 919am
Walt, climate is unusual warm and dry weather. Weather is unusual wet and cold weather.
We are in for an interesting ten years, 20 years, 30 years, 40 years. We just came off an unusually cool and snowy winter in the Sierra Nevada, and the little Frischies like it but expect it’s just an anomaly on the way to the hot and dry hell they just know is our Doom because of the petroleum economy they want to bring down.
Now, every time a solar or astrophysicist starts talking about galactic cosmic rays, sunspots, the heliosphere and the spectre of Maunderish solar Minimums during cycles 26 and 27, Steve and friends stick their fingers in their ears and chant “naaa, naaa, naaa, I can’t hear you” but if there’s going to be a rip-roaring Maunderish Minimum going to be in place by 2030, there will be cooling, in fits and starts, over the next ten years.
Will the winter of ’19-’20 be a repeat of ’18-’19, or colder and wetter, or warmer and dryer?
    Place your bets.

    Daily Quotes
Political futures: “The 2020 election is going to be a referendum on President Trump. People who do not like him will either vote Democrat or stay home. Either helps the Democratic candidates. They can be as outlandish as they want and are gambling that the President’s behavior will be more outlandish and the election will be about the President. Then, should they win, they can say they made no secret of their radicalism and clearly the American people are okay with it.” —Erick Erickson
For the record: “[The Democrats’] answer to everything is more government control. We want to control what you eat, we want to control whether you can fly, we want to control how you eat, what utensils you use. Everything is more government control and limiting freedoms, and they also want to limit the economy of the United States of America. There is no way our country can lead on any issue if we are going through a recession, if we don’t have high wages and great jobs.” —GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
Friendly fire: “Experts say Democrats’ assertions are accurate, to a point. Fighting climate change will create jobs. Yet the rosy net numbers, some warned, don’t tell the far more complicated story of what that green growth could look like.” —The New York Times’s Lisa Friedman in her piece, “Democrats Say Their Climate Plans Will Create Jobs. It’s Not So Simple.”
Friendly fire II: “I know this sounds naive. I didn’t think the left was so mean. I didn’t think the left lied like this.” —Marianne Williamson
Alpha jackass: “What Osama bin Laden did to us was terrible but he doesn’t hold a candle to Mitch McConnell.” —Jim Carrey
Double standards: “We’ve learned over the last few years from trying to govern the country by executive order that there’s a lot that can be done legally with executive order. Only the Democratic president can get that done.” —former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
Non compos mentis: “Millions of us seeing [Hurricane] Dorian turn away from land is not a wacky idea; it is a creative use of the power of the mind.” —Marianne Williamson
How ‘bout no: “The UN just released a study that said we’re going to be OK if the vast majority of the world goes vegetarian immediately. … So, I think it would be healthy on both an individual and societal level for us to move in that direction.” —Andrew Yang
The BIG lie: “[Mitigating climate change] is the hardest thing we will have done — certainly in my lifetime as a country. This is on par with winning WWII — perhaps even more challenging than that.” —Pete Buttigieg
Pipe dream: “In my administration, we won’t be building new nuclear plants. We will start weaning ourselves off nuclear and replace it with renewables.” —Sen. Elizabeth Warren
And last… “Climate change is a bunch of rich people telling poor people how they have to make their lives worse so the rich people’s beachfront property doesn’t get messed up.” —Frank J. Fleming

My my. The Lefties are obsessed with Climate Change, complete OCD bonkers obsessed. Make sense since the Leftinistas have such few things to talk about. Racism, guns, Climate Change, and Orange Man Bad. Climate Change, Climate Change, Climate Change is racist, and blame Orange Man Bad for all of the above.
    What Hot Spot?
“The warming trend we found suggests we are having a relatively minor impact on global temperatures. From the IPCC, we know what the forcing was over that 37.5 years – how many extra greenhouse gas molecules there were and what forcing they would represent. We also know about the effect of aerosols. Taking all this data together, we can calculate what I call – and we were the first to use this term – the ‘tropospheric transient climate response’. In other words: how much temperature actually changes due to extra greenhouse gas forcing. The calculation includes a major assumption, namely that there are no natural variations left in the temperature data, and in particular that there are no long-term natural variations. It’s a huge assumption, but it allows us to move on.
“Our result is that the transient climate response2 – the short-term warming – in the troposphere is 1.1◦C at the point in time when carbon dioxide levels double. This is not a very alarming number. If we perform the same calculation on the climate models, you get a figure of 2.31◦C, which is significantly different. The models’ response to carbon dioxide is twice what we see in the real world. So the evidence indicates the consensus range for climate sensitivity is incorrect.”

I suspect the warmistas will begin to fade as soon as they become fodder for late night comedians.
While the science is solid in the latest paper from John Christy, it’s a white paper through the GWPF and not a peer reviewed journal, so expect the Frischies to ignore it.
I do note Christy’s 1.1 degree for a doubling is very close to Nir Shaviv’s 1.2C, calculated from basic thermodynamics and temperature measurements. And again, any number less than 2.0C is not expected to result in runaway feedback events. No tipping points. Smaller than natural effects.

“Recognition of the harmful effects of CFCs and other ozone-depleting substances led to the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987, a landmark agreement to phase out those substances that has been ratified by all 197 UN member countries. Without the pact, the U.S. would have seen an additional 280 million cases of skin cancer, 1.5 million skin cancer deaths, and 45 million cataracts—and the world would be at least 25 percent hotter.”
