ESPN sim predicts 49ers winning NFC West, smoking Falcons in playoffs
Dalton Johnson,NBC Sports BayArea 2 hours 55 minutes ago
The 49ers enter the 2019 NFL regular season with Super Bowl aspirations. Going into Year 3 of coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch running the show, expectations are sky high.
Debating if those goals are warranted are for a different discussion. Let’s take out the human element for now, and see what the computers have to say.
ESPN simulated all 267 games for the upcoming NFL season using its Football Power Index. Out of the 20,000 simulation FPI made, ESPN landed on No. 1,721, and 49ers fans will like what they see.
While the simulation has the 49ers losing 37-14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in Week 1, that’s small potatoes in the bigger picture of the season. When it’s all said and done, the 49ers will go 11-5 and win the NFC West for the first time since 2012.
At that’s not even the biggest news.
In this case, the 49ers would be back in the playoffs for the first time since 2013, and the first time in the post-Jim Harbaugh era. Now it’s really time for 49ers fans to smile. ESPN’s simulation has the No. 3 seed 49ers crushing the No. 6 seed Falcons 37-0.

The golden state for who? –
“Earnings for California’s workers at the low end and middle of the wage scale have generally declined or stagnated for decades,” says the report, titled “California’s Workers Are Increasingly Locked Out of the State’s Prosperity.” The report continued:
In 2018, the median hourly earnings for workers ages 25 to 64 was $21.79, just 1% higher than in 1979, after adjusting for inflation ($21.50, in 2018 dollars) (Figure 1). Inflation-adjusted hourly earnings for low-wage workers, those at the 10th percentile, increased only slightly more, by 4%, from $10.71 in 1979 to $11.12 in 2018.
The report admits that the state’s progressive economy is delivering more to investors and less to wage-earners. “Since 2001, the share of state private-sector [annual new income] that has gone to worker compensation has fallen by 5.6 percentage points — from 52.9% to 47.3%.”
In 2016, California’s Gross Domestic Product was $2.6 trillion, so the 5.6 percent drop shifted $146 billion away from wages. That is roughly $3,625 per person in 2016.

“according to greggy whose daddy bought him an expensive education at a renown school for spoiled neurotic children Mitch is a cocaine freak”
Oh, My (said in my best Mr. Sulu faux basso profondo)!
My Dad was a public school teacher who earned a BA (Whittier College) on the GI Bill and bought a 2 bedroom house in Monterey Park in the mid 1950’s for $5k with a VA loan.
I was fortunate to attend before the massive inflation of college education hit, but even so, it was a pinch. I worked at a factory every summer, and took out student loans … I paid them back, too.
The funny thing is that Harvey Mudd College didn’t have a reputation at all at the time. I hadn’t heard of it (although it was within cycling distance from our house) but my high school physics teacher told me that it was difficult to get into my first choice school (CalTech) but I’d have a good chance get into either Mudd or CIT. Rounded out those two with UCLA and Cal State LA (wasn’t a CSU yet) as an absolute safety school if the bottom fell out of my world.
I got rejected by CalTech but offered early admittance into both Mudd and UCLA to study Physics. The first inkling I had as to the reputation Mudd was building for itself was an early ’70’s list of the top ten colleges in the country from the Feds (the Dept of Health, Education and Welfare) that was released after I was there and Mudd was the only school on the list that was less than a century old and it’s first degrees were conferred about eight years earlier.
Four years of tuition was about $17k at the time. A bargain.

    The Michael Flynn saga continues
“How this issue plays out will likely also set the tone on Powell’s requests for access to information concerning potential misconduct by FBI and DOJ agents related to Ohr and Steele. Federal prosecutors will pooh-pooh this request, arguing it is irrelevant to Flynn’s sentencing. But Powell has a solid argument that that evidence bears on the credibility of government witnesses.
“So why does Powell want this evidence? Does she intend to pull Flynn’s guilty plea? “That is not what I want to see happen here,” Powell said during an interview on Friday on Lou Dobbs Tonight. “I expect frankly that we find evidence that warrants dismissal of the case for egregious government misconduct.”
“But first Powell needs access to that evidence, and whether she will get it will have to await Judge Sullivan’s decision, which will be some time coming. However, when the parties appear at the hastily scheduled status conference on September 10, 2019, we may get an inkling of Judge Sullivan’s perspective.”

    Campus life and it’s costs
“What went wrong? The former students of the 1970s came into power and gradually began to reject the very code of conduct and training of those who taught them. And in turn they taught a new generation who for the first time had little first-hand knowledge of the great campus scholars and icons of the past.
Politics increasingly infected courses as competence eroded—logical for faculty and students since the former required far less of the latter. Across the curriculum, race, class, and gender studies found their way into art, music, literature, philosophy and history classes. Deduction now replaced the old empiricism. Grades inflated; the therapeutic triumphed over the tragic as how students felt was almost as important as what they learned and knew.
When old rules and norms could not be met, they were eroded on the principle that such discriminatory constructs should never have been established. More cynically, standards got in the way of more student bodies and more profits for the academic class.
There were many false and overly clever rationalizations for the abandonment of the old inductive method. Dressed-up French postmodern nihilism dictated that there were no facts, only social constructions and narratives based on power, supposedly appropriated by white toxic Western males, past and present.
Standards, then, were also discredited as artifices to suppress the marginalized. To object to such hucksterism was proof of one’s own racism.”

    Goat wrestling
“But back to my own “if true” breaking news. O’Donnell, according to my source, frequently has helium canisters and several styles of extra-large ladies lingerie delivered to his house in order to accommodate his extremely bizarre Saturday-night ritual of Jello-wrestling with goats followed by a cross-dressing karaoke session. Yes, Lawrence O’Donnell dresses in lady’s underwear while belting out Wagner operas in soprano with the assistance of helium huffing.
“Update: I have been unable to find a second source to corroborate the reports of O’Donnell’s behavior. Therefore, I apologize to my readers and, while I am embarrassed to admit that I cannot indeed prove that Lawrence O’Donnell does Jello-wrestle goats or sing Wagner in an extra-large teddy from Victoria’s Secret, I’m not saying the story isn’t true. I’m simply conceding that the story wasn’t yet ready for publication…..
“This leads me back to O’Donnell. Obviously, I have no evidence that he wears immodest ladies’ undergarments while wrestling poor goats in vats of Jello (again, please wipe those images from your mind!). On the other hand, I can’t prove he doesn’t do these things.”

Then there is this that creepy grampa joe is going to have to deal with –
But Mattis, in his book, did open up about his tenure as head of U.S. Central Command from 2010 to 2013, and zeroed in on the Obama administration’s desire to wind down the U.S. troop presence in Iraq, no matter the cost.
Mattis wrote that Obama’s tenure “was to be a time when I would witness duty and deceit, courage and cowardice, and, ultimately, strategic frustration.”
“In Washington, the debate swirled throughout 2011 about how many, if any, U.S. troops should remain in Iraq,” Mattis recounted. “Central Command, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the new defense secretary, Leon Panetta, who had replaced Bob Gates, continued to recommend to the White House retaining a residual force, as did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”
All of them, Mattis asserted, were “talking to the wind,” as Obama was singularly focused on living up to his public promises to end the war in Iraq. In late 2011, Obama said confidently in a speech to the nation that some 40,000 servicemen and women still in Iraq “will definitely be home for the holidays.”
The administration’s faith in Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Mattis said, was also misplaced.
“Prime Minister Maliki is highly untrustworthy, Mr. Vice President,” Mattis said he warned Biden. “He’s devious when he talks to us. … He looks at our ambassadors and military advisers as impediments to his anti-Sunni agenda. He wants to purge or marginalize Sunnis and Kurds from the government.”
“He exuded the confidence of a man whose mind was made up.”
    — Former Defense Secretary James Mattis, on Joe Biden
Mattis wrote that “Vice President Biden and his assistants listened politely. But as we spoke, I sensed I was making no headway in convincing the administration officials not to support Maliki. It was like talking to people who lived in wooden houses but saw no need for a fire department. … I found him an admirable and amiable man. But he was past the point where he was willing to entertain a ‘good idea.’ He didn’t want to hear more; he wanted our forces out of Iraq. Whatever path led there fastest, he favored.
“He exuded the confidence of a man whose mind was made up, perhaps even indifferent to considering the consequences were he judging the situation incorrectly,” Mattis concluded.
According to Mattis, Biden countered that “Maliki wants us to stick around, because he does not see a future in Iraq otherwise. I’ll bet you my vice presidency.”
Afterward, Mattis said, “Iraq slipped back into escalating violence. It was like watching a car wreck in slow motion. … All of this was predicted — and preventable.”
In 2016, faced with the rise of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Iraq power vacuum that he had once dismissed as a “junior varsity” effort, Obama sent 5,000 troops back to Iraq. ISIS’ major strongholds fell under the Trump administration, although experts warn that the group remains dangerous.
Nevertheless, Biden — who was nominally in charge of overseeing troop withdrawals from Iraq under the Obama administration — has touted his efforts in that capacity as he runs for president. “I made sure the president turned to me and said, ‘Joe, get our combat troops out of Iraq,’” Biden said in Miami in June. “I was responsible for getting 150,000 combat troops out of Iraq, and my son was one of them.”
In July, Biden claimed, “When I was vice president, the president gave me all the easy jobs, like ‘take care of getting all our troops out of Iraq,’ which we did.”
The Washington Post’s fact-checker has noted that Biden has preferred not to mention on the campaign trail the troops’ eventual return to Iraq under his watch.
In his book, Mattis also faulted Obama’s failure to enforce his own self-imposed “red line” upon the use of chemical weapons in Syria had weakend the U.S. globally.

The Trump Administration has increased its work visas and B-1 visas every year. Deporting illegals is one thing. Issuing visas to qualified applicants is another, and well as cracking down on those who overstayed their Visas. Compliance thang. Rule breakers not welcomed. In Feb, 2019, there was a crackdown on B-1 visas. By March, that was loosened. Loosened again in August with an additional 30,000 temp work visas.
There are many considerations. Skills, education, chances of being a public charge, chances of the immigrant being successful, health problems, working age, etc. immigration is an agreement between two parties. The immigrant applies for entrance and the US agrees with certain stipulations which both parties agree to in advance. On the back of the visa (which is signed by the applicant) clearly states any violation of the terms (like overstaying the visa or not notifying change of address) ) results in immediate deportation. They agree. If a tech worker violates the terms they agreed to, good-bye. There are ten more ready to take their place in a heartbeat. The immigrant does not get to set the rules, period. Central America does not get to set our set our immigration policy. Brussels does not get to set our immigration policy, which is the most generous on Earth. No country on Earth has open borders.

I am puzzled. Did you read the last half of the article? Yes, follow the money.
“Universities emulated the ethos of loan sharks and shake-down businesses. The con was as simple as it was insidiously brilliant. Academic lobbyists pressed the government for billions in guaranteed student loans, on the rationale that half of all Americans would now be offered a chance for the common, empowering BA degree.
“The federal government-backed student loans. That guarantee greenlighted cash-flush universities to pay inter alia for diversity czars, assistant provosts of “inclusion,” and armies of woke aides and facilitators, to reduce teaching loads, and to open more race/class/gender “centers” on campus—by jacking up college costs higher than the rate of inflation.
“Student debt soared. Almost anyone could be admitted to college on the assurance that loans and “assistance packages” would allow 18-year-olds soon to become university graduates—and not worry about paying for their new noncompetitive majors until later.”
    and more.

The jig is up for team 0 –
As Breitbart News reported, the IG report relates that prior to the briefing, FBI members on Comey’s team discussed the need to memorialize the exchanges between Comey and Trump during the private January 6, 2017 briefing in Trump Tower just in case Trump made statements relevant to the agency’s controversial Russia probe. In other words, they plotted to stealthily use statements Trump said to Comey in a private briefing to inform their Russia collusion investigation.
The IG further relates that Comey went on to do just that. He had a laptop waiting for him in the car, where he immediately began memorializing his private talk with Trump. He also immediately provided a “quick download” of the Trump briefing to members of “Crossfire Hurricane” – the FBI’s compartmentalized Russia collusion team — via a secured video conference.
The revelation that Comey immediately fed the details of his private meeting with Trump to the FBI team investigation unsubstantiated Russia collusion raises questions about what Obama, Biden, Rice and other Obama-era officials knew about the intent to use the planned briefing to fuel the questionable Russia investigation and surreptitiously pass the contents of the private talk to the FBI.
In his book, A Higher Loyalty, Comey writes that he told Obama, Biden and Rice about his plans to have the private briefing with Trump. He did this on January 5, 2017 in a White House briefing with Obama one day before he met Trump and underhandedly sent the details of their one-on-one to the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” team handling the Russia collusion claims.
Biden and Rice were reportedly involved in the Russia probe since the early inception of the investigation. Attorney General William Barr made a series of public comments that the U.S. administration’s early handling of the Russia investigation may itself raise questions. He noted that it was first handled at a “very senior level” and then by a “small group.” Barr recently appointed a U.S. attorney to investigate the origins of the Russia collusion claims.

“If we came up with a good strong vote on that (USMCA), it would give us a great step forward,” Donohue said, adding his belief that Congress had “enough votes to do it right now.”

    Oh Jiggles….laughable indeed.
You hear the word “standards” and you go on some tangent. Standards are racist! Lowering of standards is good, right? What you are really saying is you want equality of outcome. Lower the standards for LE and you get more police shootings. Lower the standards in education and you get what we have now. Lower the standards for teacher colleges. Lower the standards!
Ironically, in NYC the Asians are the poorest racial group in entire city. Yes, “Asians” is a term that encompasses a wide range of folks from many countries and cultures. But now Asians are being discriminated against in NYC as there are too many of them in the top 3% of the testing. Change the standards! Make everybody gifted students….unless they are the poorest ones. Ah, just hold the gifted ones back and call it diversity and inclusion.

No worries. My gut said to copy and paste the last parts only, but noooo. VDH had to do a history lesson first. I spent a year at a private college that was $1,200 a year tuition, now is 24k a year. Paid 400 bucks a semester for a room and all the food I could eat. Then I transferred to a private University which was $1,800 a year with two plus girls for every guy. Lived off campus for about 75 buck a month rent (my share) with 4 other guys. Worked on the grounds on work study every weekend and Christmas and Easter break to pay off the loan and cleaned the gym & weight room every Tuesday night. Think the wage was $1.85/hour or $2.20/hour with half going to my education. The bitch was Tuesday night during basketball season when I was the guy who had to mop up the sweat at halftime and my buddies would throw pennies on the gym floor that the mop would not pick up, lol. Good times. At night I would hand load box cars stacking washers and dryers when the union guys left. :). Nowadays there are some colleges that have one “administrator” for every student, roflmao.

Endorsed by a few jihadi congresscritters –
“Looking at textbooks across the Middle East we have seen improvements,” IMPACT-se’s CEO Marcus Sheff told Fox News Tuesday. “That is certainly true to the Jordanian curriculum, the Tunisian curriculum is of a good standard and we are seeing improvements in Egypt.”
“Unfortunately the opposite is true of the Palestinian curriculum,” Sheff said. “A new, reformed curriculum was put in place between 2016 and 2019 and it is more radical than the curriculum that came before.”
He added that the current curriculum “encourages school children to sacrifice themselves” and claimed, “content relating to peace with Israel has been purposefully taken out of the curriculum.”
Sheff told Fox News that the institute’s research found that social studies, history and Arabic textbooks in the Palestinian Authority for grades 2 through 12 included “problematic content.” He added that the institute also found “problematic content in science, including teaching math by asking young people to do addition of [the number of] martyrs in the First Intifada and in the Second Intifada and asking them how many martyrs, instead of using counting apples as many students around the world are asked.”

Great woe is me tale. Been bowing my head to the floor for the last 90 minutes.
Reminds me of Dear Leader who made “great sacrifices” in leu of going to Viet Nam. The bone spurs and bowling league workouts were grueling.
