[Interesting discussion from the last sandbox on Baltimore, shithole cities, and the misguided attack on Kushner and other investors in companies willing to provide housing in crime and drug infested ghettos. The simple-minded accuse such investors of being "slumlords" with the same logic that investors (like me) can be accused of causing the opioid epidemic by investing in pharma companies or killing women and children in the mid-east wars by investing in defense industries. First, a correction from the last box. CRIME causes poverty. The Left has it ass backwards.
Second, The Bigger Discussion Issue: Charges of Racism slams the door to having any real honest discussions concerning the problems and solutions in the one-party teacher union stranglehold shitholes.
Whenever the topic of the large city urban problems comes up (with 3rd World living conditions, squalor, corruption, graft, crime, pathetic schools, low to no economic vitality and opportunity) and the light is shined on the problem that the MOST vulnerable endure in these Dem controlled shitholes, the cry of “Racism!” drowns our everything. The discussion is stopped in its tracks. Shut the conversation down.
The Race baiters, politicians, and poverty pimps always point to the Oppressors as the cause of all their problems. And they are quick on the draw. And, of course, the opposers are always some other guy as you move up the chain of blame. No ownership. No coming together to fix the sucker. Blame some other dude. The ‘other dude did it’ chuck and jive.
In the current climate, the word ‘infestation’ is a now blatant undisguised word for racism. Tragic. Hollow charges of racism, which is the fall guy for everything…but only in Bad America and hurled by the con men. Where do you go from there? Nowhere. Discussion over. Dare not look this way.
Shine the light, Mr.Trump, and don’t let the bastards off the hook. A fantastic thing about Trump is he is willing to sustain political and personal damage if the Resistance sustains even more political damage. Then, and only after then, needed change and dialogue can commence. He will sustain damage to fix things. Most R’s and all Lefties cannot or will not take the risk to but America First. We need to look over the horizon, post Trump for the sake of our country.
People can see through this racial garbage, hyped by the media and Leftinistas whenever they read their ugly heads. Turn on the lights and the cockroaches scramble. About time for Trump put the cowboy boots on with those pointy toes so he and we can step on the cockroaches in the corners.
Spot on Dr. Rebane. Very complex problems do not lend the selves to simple “either or” answers or solutions. As things currently stand, the best we can hope for in a discussion with the Lefties goes something like this:
Lefty sez: “While we admit mistakes may have been made, we are convinced the other guy is more at fault! Fascists.” Pride is a prison.

Cities by ranking.
https://wallethub.com/edu/best-run-cities/22869/
Running a city is a tall order. The larger the city, the more complex it becomes to manage. In addition to representing the residents, local leaders must balance the public’s diverse interests with the city’s limited resources. That often means not everyone’s needs can or will be met. Leaders must carefully consider which services are most essential, which agencies’ budgets to cut or boost and whether and how much to raise taxes, among other decisions.
But how do we measure the effectiveness of local leadership? One way is by determining a city’s operating efficiency. In other words, we can learn how well city officials manage and spend public funds by comparing the quality of services residents receive against the city’s total budget.
Using that approach, WalletHub compared the operating efficiency of 150 of the largest U.S. cities to reveal which among them are managed best. We constructed a “Quality of Services” score made up of 37 metrics grouped into six service categories, which we then measured against the city’s per-capita budget. Read on for our findings, expert insight and a full description of our methodology.

“(Bloomberg) — Sweden’s introduction on Thursday of a tax aimed at phasing out the nation’s last remaining coal and gas plants to curb global warming comes with an unintended consequence for some of its biggest cities.
Hiking threefold a levy on fossil fuels used at local power plants will make such facilities unprofitable and utilities from Stockholm Exergi AB to EON SE have said they will halt or cut power production.
The move means that grids in the capital and Malmo won’t be able to hook up new facilities including homes, transport links and factories. While Sweden doesn’t have a shortage of power, there’s not enough cables to ship it to the biggest cities.

WINNING!
CNSNews.com) – The number of people employed in the United States hit a record 157,288,000 in July, according to the employment report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That was up 283,000 from the 157,005,000 employed in June.
The unemployment rate held steady in July at 3.7 percent, the same as it was in June.
According to the employment report, the civilian noninstitutional population in the United States was 259,225,000 in July. That included all people 16 and older who did not live in an institution (such as a prison, nursing home or long-term care hospital). Of that civilian noninstutional population, 163,351,000 were in the labor force, meaning that they either had a job or were actively seeking one during the last month. That equaled a labor force participation rate of 63.0 percent–an increase from 62.9 percent in June.
Of the 163,351,000 who were in the labor force, 6,063,000 were unemployed, equaling an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent.
The other 157,288,000 did have jobs, yielding last month’s record number of people employed.

Walt 4:05 – Wow – what a coincidence! Boise is number 3!
Perhaps Paul should go back and read the thread on my praise of downtown Boise. It isn’t just the R or D after the civic leaders’ names. It’s the culture and general attitude of the populace. There is no reason for anyone to spray paint crap on public or private property and no reason for the populace to tolerate it. Boise does have an alley downtown where taggers, artists and whatnots can have all the fun they want. It’s a designated place for it and very accessible for viewing by anyone who wants to look at it. Outside of that area, it’s not tolerated. Because once it starts and no one stops it, a lot of other anti-social behavior sets in. Based on the “broken windows” policing theory.
https://cebcp.org/evidence-based-policing/what-works-in-policing/research-evidence-review/broken-windows-policing/
There are a lot of moving parts in keeping a city orderly and a place where folks want to live. Petty crime is not petty if it is endemic and ongoing.
Boise does have an issue with the homeless – in fact, it was Boise that pushed the issue of a city govt having the right to not tolerate vagrancy.
https://www.curbed.com/2019/4/5/18296772/homeless-lawsuit-boise-appeals-court
Even though Boise lost the lawsuit, you will not see people camping out downtown in the streets. The idea that Boise or any other municipality was trying to “criminalize” homelessness is BS. They are saying you don’t have the “right” to make the public areas into your toilet and campground. Businesses have spent too much money in setting up their store fronts to let some bum make a crap-hole in front of their store.
I think it gets down to something called common sense. Left-led cities don’t seem to have any and conservative cities do.

“The meeting was how can we help the black community,” Owens said. “That was my concern. That was the purpose of the meeting. That is the reason why I came to Washington and that is my focus, helping our inner city young people especially, our children, our young people.”
BEN SHAPIRO CALLS CNN’S DON LEMON A ‘JOKE,’ SAYS HE SHOULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT INSTEAD OF MODERATING
After taking a moment to aggressively press Owens over his criticisms of President Obama for supporting same-sex marriage, the “CNN Tonight” host pivoted back to the president allegedly being “racist.”
“I know it’s hard for you. You think it’s hard to believe that Trump is racist,” Lemon said. “But he’s repeatedly used racially charged language. He consistently attacks black and brown elected leaders. So, why is that hard to believe, Pastor?”
“I find President Trump [attacks] leaders of all colors. He attacks who he will. He’s his own man,” Owens shot back. “I can’t dictate what he should or should not do. But he does not just attack black people. He attacks anybody. And you know it.”
Lemon then appeared to question Owens’ faith and suggested the pastor was “condoning” Trump’s attacks.
“So as a man of faith, as a Christian, you’re saying he attacks anyone. It sounds like you’re condoning attacks? Is that Christianly or Godly?” the host asked.
“I’m just stating a statement of fact,” Owens replied. “I’m not condoning anything. I’m stating a statement of fact. President Trump does not pick the people he attacks because of color. He attacks anybody he feels needs it … I’m not his judge.”
