[Was going to intro this sandbox with a comment on the current Trump/Cummings imbroglio, but reader Todd Juvinall's comment in the last Scattershots covers it pretty well. "Elijah Cummings district is truly a shithole district. Most of the urban blight is contained in the areas represented by the Con Black Caucus. With over 40 members I have watched them most of my political years and they are as impotent (as) Steve Frisch. Their districts are shitholes. We see the same thing now in LA with the Hispanic Caucus. If they would cast off their leftist robes of failure and embrace Republican values and ideas they could revitalize their shitholes. But they won't. The press is siding with these failed politicians against Trump. He sure says what is true." gjr]

CUMMINGS SKIPS TOUR OF HUD FACILITY IN BALTIMORE
Hmmm, I wonder why? Congress is in recess. No excuse. Oh my, somebody got some explaining to do. WTH? HUD dumped 16 billion to Elijah Cummings district for homeless and block grants in 2018, more than the previous administration.
“We have given more money and community development grants than the last administration to Baltimore’.

Hmmm. Smells everyday more like Puerto Rico waste, fraud, and corruption. Or, like what happens to our State’s highway funds.

John Solomon on the scent. FBI’s Wray has some explaining to do.
“To hear the FBI tell it, the release of former Deputy Assistant Secretary Kathleen Kavalec’s documents is tantamount to giving up the keys to President Trump’s nuclear briefcase, aiding the enemy or assisting terrorists.
“The FBI can’t afford to “jeopardize the fragile relationships that exist between the United States and certain foreign governments,” the FBI official declared in another dramatic argument against the conservative group Citizens United’s request to release the memos.
“And if that wasn’t enough, the bureau actually claimed that “FBI special agents have privacy interests from unnecessary, unofficial questioning as to the conduct of investigations and other FBI business.”
“In other words, agents don’t want to have to answer to the public, which pays their salary, when questions arise about the investigative work, as has happened in the Russia case.
“The FBI’s July 10 court filing speaks volumes about Director Christopher Wray’s efforts to thwart the public understanding of what really happened in the FBI’s now-debunked Russia collusion probe.”

I watched parts of the debate while reading other more interesting stuff and doing othr more important things. I certainly did feel like Trump was on the stage with them in person and in spirit.
I liked how it was Bernie and Pocahontas teaming up vs. everybody else who had two brain cells left. Loved Warren’s dodges. When someone said, Come on, let’s not lie to the people and make all these unicorn promises that are not feasible, she shot back with why run for Prez if you talk about what can’t be done, lol. I suppose talking about wish lists that are D.O.A. is their concept of leadership.
My jaw dropped when Pocahontas was going off about the high cost of education and student debt…..all the while charging $400,000.00 for teaching one course, roflmao. I could only stomach two to three minutes at a time.
They talked about inner city public shithole education….but offered no solutions besides pay teachers more. Oh my, that will fix the problem!
Heard even Republicans have been sending Marianne a dollar to keep her on the stage with the required number of donors, only to regret it as their names and e-mails are now on the Dem donor lists and solicitations are clogging up their computers with junk mail.
I like Marianne “I am not a New Age nut” Williamson. She previously said she would fight hate with love, but did not sound too loving last night. It’s going to take more than human efforts to defeat Trump, it’s going to take cosmic forces to combat the collective energy of the Dark Side. I envisioned Marianne with a Luke Skywalker light saber battling Darth Vader. May the Force be with her.
Pocahontas is going to solve racism by…..by….by giving universal free college to everybody. Yep, that will solve “ the problem”. Nobody talked about the new progressive solution on campus; segregated dorms. Only a Socialist could make this stuff up.
I did not see the next Dem nominee on the stage last night. But, it was nice to see most of them (except the most radical losers) have read the polls and dropped the decriminalizing illegal entry mantra. Some do have two brain cells left..as previously noted.
It was definitely a CNN hosted debate. Dumb Don Lemon asked, “Hey Amy, what do you say to those racist deplorable Trump voters who prioritize the economy over the president’s BIGOTRY?” Sums it up.
No impeachment talk, no Russia talk, no Mueller talk. Gone with the wind. Yep, the only card they have to play is their old faithful: Trump is a racist, everybody but them are racists!!!! Bigoted racists.

The Babylon Bee hits back with a pre-emptive strike!
“Snopes Issues Pre-Approval Of All Statements Made During Tonight’s Democratic Debate”.
All statements to be made during Democrat Debate fact-checked as “True”
“At publishing, Snopes had also released a fact-check for all future statements by President Trump, rating them all as “False.”
https://babylonbee.com/news/snopes-issues-pre-approval-on-all-statements-made-during-tonights-democratic-debate
Best quote from another site:
“As usual, the debate was accompanied by some entertaining tweets. For those with better things to do than follow Twitter spats, the supposed “fact checker” Snopes has engaged in a long-running battle with the satire site Babylon Bee, “fact checking” the Bee’s jokes as if they were serious news stories. I think this is the Left’s way of saying “That’s not funny!” So the Bee struck pre-emptively shortly before last night’s debate began.”

In the “republicans really know how to manage budgets” dept. — Reagan started out with a $70B deficit and ran it up to $175B…Bush 1 ran Reagan’s $175B up to $300.. Bill Cllinton ran Bush’s deficit down to ZERO.. Bush 2 took Clinton’s ZERO and ran it up to $1.2 Trillion.. Obama cut that in half to $600B which trump ran back up to $1 Trillion. Yes indeed, one has to really learn to appreciate those fiscal conservative republicans. I’ll bet the banks really like republican fiscal policies.

Man o man, those interest charges have a way with catching up with ya. Typical 10 million bond sold to the voters to fund some fun…er….to fund some needed government program or public need ends up costing 30 million over 30 years. Always triple the costs.
By 2021 or 2020, the interest on the debt alone will be equal to the entire costs of running the Social Security Disability program in its entirety. The chickens are coming home to roost. No worries. The millions of unskilled uneducated unable to communicate in English poor illegals will pay for it all…along with a few thousand rich folk. Righttttt.

The jihadi gets cash from the grave –
Tlaib’s campaign committee, Rashida Tlaib for Congress, hauled in donations of at least $2,000 from dozens of individuals between April 1 and June 30. One of those contributions was from George S. Farah Sr., a Michigan businessman, real estate developer, and community leader who made his way from Palestine to the United States in the mid-1950s. Farah passed away on Feb. 1, 2009, from heart failure, according to a Michigan Live article published at the time of his death.
On June 22, Tlaib’s campaign received a $2,500 donation in his name, Federal Election Commission filings show. A search of public records, which also state that he is deceased, provides an address identical to the one written on the contribution to Tlaib’s campaign committee. Grand Blanc Township property records also show that the residence located at that address is registered in Farah’s name along with that of his widow.
Tlaib is the sole federal politician to receive a donation in Farah’s name for the 2020 election cycle. In the past, Rep. Dan Kildee (D., Mich.) has also received contributions from Farah following his passing. Kildee, who first ran for the House of Representatives during the 2012 election cycle, was given $1,400 in total contributions in Farah’s name between 2011 and 2017. The two Democratic Michigan representatives are the only federal politicians who received money in Farah’s name for the past 10 years.

The non- debate debate. That Sen.Kennedy is always good for a quote.

“What I heard last night, even from the so-called less liberal candidates, and I’m not impugning their integrity, but … I heard a job-killing, soul-crushing, socialist agenda. The only thing missing was the Cuban national anthem,”
“Same old stuff: Socialism, illegal immigration, abortion, socialized medicine are moral goods. Free enterprise, border security, the sanctity of life, your on-the-job health insurance; those are all moral bads,” he said.
“At the rate, my Democratic friends are going, the American people are going to have a very stark choice beyond this election. It’s going to be growth versus redistribution. It’s going to do you believe in more freedom or more free stuff.”
Pretty much sums it up

PaulE 113pm – Agree with BarryP. To reduce/eliminate deficits, the choice remains 1) become militarily weak, or 2) reduce entitlements. And given the circa $750B DOD budget, entitlements are still going to give us deficits even if we disband our military and eliminate the DOD. This, of course, is in the desiderata of our anti-American Left. As we found out last night, our Left wants to cripple our economy, hobble our military, stifle the flow of risk allocated capital, open our borders to the world, and generally eliminate America as a world hegemon. That kind of fundamental transformation would sure as hell satisfy almost every A21 objective.

So George and Barry Trump said he would balance the budget, pay down the national debt and that his tax cuts would pay for themselves. Also he said he would not make cuts to medicare or social security. In your view was Trump intentionally lying or was he hopelessly naive when he made those promises? How does this situation reflect on the quality of his financial advisors who apparently supported his claims.

Can’t resist pointing out that one particular poster who decries deficits was also the same chap who was quite upset that poor poor little Germany was being told to pay their NATO dues they could not afford and we should continue to pay theirs and everyone’s NATO dues and, of course, eat the costs. And what about the poor people who as just trying to provide a better life for their families? They need diapers, too. And what about funding more bike trails and homeless shelters and Single Payer, and the arts and…..and…..and keeping the local airport open and new Marshal Plans and New Green Deals and….
Reminds me of the sultry movie star saying, “So many men, so little time.” So many wants, not enough money….in the world for everything under the sun.
To me, Paul Ryan was the biggest disappointment in years. Talked a good talk, nice guy, spouted the Tea Party line. Balanced budget guy. Turned out to be all hat and no cattle. In fact, he did more harm than good. I am not privy to all the facts of reality and challenges and all that goes on in sausage making, but he definitely was not the same man he was when he was riding the wave of the TPP. And to think his quest was entitlement reform to save Medicare, balanced budgets, etc. He stopped even fighting for half a loaf or crumbs.
Same with Mitch, pre-Trump. I was on the Ditch Mitch bandwagon because of cocaine Mitch not even lifting a finger in opposition to budget concerns and going along with some bills (non-Obamacare) that I felt were unconstitutional. I felt he should have at least fought and lost a losing battle before signing blank checks as a modus operandi…before and after 2016. Again, maybe he did not have the votes or was unwilling to sustain political damage…..or choose his battles carefully. Can’t please everybody, myself no different.
There are so many budget items on autopilot that discretionary spending becomes less and less of the budget process and entitlements and programs on autopilot eating up a larger and larger share.
Look what happened to Sen. Rand Paul when he opposed funding the healthcare needs of the 9/11 First Responders to address bigger budget issues just the other day. He was literally called The Devil…across the board. At least he gave it a go.
Look how some were whining about the po po po (sob) US Forest Service employees that stopped getting a steady paycheck during the last shutdown. They are our neighbors, community assets who are just trying to provide a better life for their families. Poor Germany is late on their dues, poor people starving in Africa, and there is a Climate Change caused famine in a small area in El Salvador hill country!
Government, like Leftinistas, have appetites that are insatiable.

Hmmm. It’s there a 3rd of 4th option? How would I know?
As I have stated before on several occasions, I watched a few handfuls of Trump’s rallies (he did one, two, three a day), watched several press conferences and speeches. I cannot recall but one time he threw out some lines about reducing or balancing the budget towards the end of a long wish list he would accomplish after the meat of his message was delivered at a rally. I do not recall one speech focused on the issue of runaway deficits. I do not recall one rally or interview or call in to a TV or radio show where the major topic of discussion being budget concerns. To the contrary, I was alarmed by plans for big infrastructure plans. And, although I did not mention it here but maybe once at the time, I sat through the entire 2016 election cycle wondering why this was the first race to the White House where the budget or spending WAS NOT a campaign issue for either side. I kept waiting for the issue to be put front and central, but it never materialized by either side, HRC or Trump. I do remember saying to myself that this is the first Presidential race in my lifetime that spending and budget concerns were conspicuously ABSENT. Period. Hear about deficits in the debates? Recall any Trump or Hillary addresses focused primarily on servicing the debt? Maybe in passing. Maybe Gov Gary ran on it, I haven’t a clue.
So, Paul, you got to show me 20-30 different long Trump quotes from differ settings from different months (or a dozen 10 minutes videos) addressing the topic so dear to your heart. A throw away line here or there in the excitement of the moment buried in a 70-80 minute speech ain’t going to cut it. No friggin way Jose. I feel your pain.
In addition, before I can answer, let’s not discount the power of the Resistance. Once he won the election in early November, he was faced with a recount in 3 states, an effort from the opposition to interfere and alter the electoral college votes, charges of Treason and colluding with the Russians, much difficulty finding people to fill the slots, total resistance to getting confirmation of Cabinet appointments, absolutely no honeymoon period normally afforded a new President’s first 100 days, a hostile Congress, holdovers from the previous administration leaking like a sieve and sabotaging his agenda…all his agenda. That is just off the top of my head. Under different t circumstances, just imagine what could have be achieved on the the issue of controlled spending which you cherish with all your heart and soul. Amazing Trump got a tax reform bill through.
About a year or maybe 18 months into the Trump Administration, I watched the nicest interview with HUD Secretary Ben Carson. What a great human being he is. Anyway, at that time he had no Deputy confirmed!!! Congress would not give him a wingman. My jaw dropped to the floor. Normally the Deputy or #2 does all the work running the massive department and the head goes out giving speeches and tours in different places, cities, states, audiences. But, Carson was doing all the heavy lifting of running the place and being the face to the public by himself. And not only that, HUD did not even have a legal counsel, so he was wearing that hat as well!!! Just imagine what Ben could have accomplished without the Resist Everything. My jaw was stuck on the floor for an hour.
Trump got off to a rocky start and it has only got rockier. Quite frankly, I am dazed and amazed he is still standing, still in office, and now is bludgeoning his opponents upside the head with the club they intended for him. And his is going to pound them into the dust for what they did to our country with that time consuming Russian Traitor lying smear. The Left bore false witness. One of the 10 Commandments carved in Stone. Low morals. No morals.
Whether Trump meant what he said when he said something (?) about balancing the budget or whatever, I do not know. I know that all Presidents say one thing on the trail and find out the realities when they sit in the chair behind the desk in the Oval Office. They get a different view of things.
I need dates and a dozen or two different long quotes or texts of speeches before I can answer your ‘either or question’, Paul.
Until then, I do not have time for your neurosis or foolishness. Ciao.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., previously referred to his community of Baltimore as a “drug-infested” area, using a term that President Trump included in a tweet widely panned as a racist attack on the city.
The video, tweeted by the president on Wednesday, showed Cummings lamenting the city’s scourge of drugs while speaking during what appeared to be a congressional hearing.
“This morning, I left my community of Baltimore — a drug-infested area where a lot of the drugs we are talking about today have already taken the lives of so many children,” he said. “The same children that I watched 14 or 15 years ago as they grew up, now walking around like zombies.”

So. Joe says he’s going to END fossil fuels. Good bloody luck with that. Yup, that’s a Presidential winner there.
So smart guy,, how do you plan on heating the house in Winter?
Getting to work? building that road? Just getting goods to the store shelf?
Just how expensive will you make it? Never mind you can run your home for days what it takes to power an electric car for a day.
“What modern invention uses 32 terawatt-hours (32,000,000,000 kwh ) of electricity every year (about the same as the country of Denmark)? No, I’m not talking about EVs, 32 twh is about the amount of electricity that 7 million Teslas would use in a year.”

Medals for spying on opposing lawyers and abuse of power? The Prez ain’t gonna roll with that! –
Navy officials said Wednesday they are pulling achievement medals from prosecutors who argued the case against a decorated Navy SEAL who was acquitted in the death of a wounded Islamic State captive after President Donald Trump intervened.
Trump tweeted earlier Wednesday that he had directed the secretary of the Navy and the chief of naval operations to “immediately withdraw and rescind” the Navy Achievement Medal from prosecutors who argued the case against Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher, who was acquitted by military jurors earlier this month.
“The Prosecutors who lost the case against SEAL Eddie Gallagher (who I released from solitary confinement so he could fight his case properly), were ridiculously given a Navy Achievement Medal,” Trump complained, adding, “I am very happy for Eddie Gallagher and his family!”
Navy spokesman Cdr. Jereal Dorsey said that on Wednesday, after Trump’s tweet, Navy Secretary Richard Spencer rescinded the awards. As secretary, he has that authority, Dorsey said.

Another sign the wokester socialists are going to blow it big time when they think they know better than the locals –
That’s former Sen. Claire McCaskill explaining on MSNBC after Tuesday night’s Democratic debate why the left may be leaning too far to the left if it hopes to take back the White House.
She was responding to anchor Brian Williams, who’d asked, “What happens when you walk into those communities and say, ‘Great news, you’re all going to get green jobs, we’ll need the keys to your F-150s because we’re going all-electric’?”
McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat who lost her Senate seat to Republican Josh Hawley in 2018 and now is an NBC and MSNBC analyst, essentially called out her party’s presidential candidates for not waking up to the current reality in the Heartland. “America is generally not as far along the left line as Bernie and Elizabeth,” she explained, referring to two of the front runners for the Democratic nomination, Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
McCaskill’s comments immediately made a splash on social media, where Sanders’s national press secretary called them “racial dog whistles”:

Take a John Solomon break in debate talk. IG Report out soon.
As soon as the IG report is out of the way, then the fun begins. A word of caution. The IG report is very narrowly focused and without a lot of power or prosecutorial tools (none), so don’t get your revenge hopes up. Just a step in the process to get out the truth. Truth is more important than convictions. We are not like the Dark Side.
VERY important to remember the last IG report detailed all the politically motivated actions and department procedure violations and shenanigans with the thumb on the scales undertaken during the Hillary e-mail Investigation….but when Horowitz put all the pieces all together, he said the Department’s Hillary probe was not politically motived. Expect the same. The sum of the parts did not equal the whole, lol. Anyway, just another brick in the wall coming soon.

“ Although a technical violation, the DOJ did not want to “make its first case against the Russia investigators with such thin margins and look petty and vindictive,” a source told me, explaining the DOJ’s rationale.
“But Comey and others inside the FBI and the DOJ during his tenure still face legal jeopardy in ongoing probes by the IG and Barr-appointed special prosecutor John Durham. Those investigations are focused on the origins of the Russia investigation that included a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant targeting the Trump campaign at the end of the 2016 election, the source said.

Ding, ding, ding! We were correct, the popinjays were wrong. The memos about Trump he wrote while on the taxpayer’s dime are indeed property of the Bureau. Some are classified, one Secret.
“While they cautioned that the IG’s final report won’t be complete until it gets feedback from Comey’s lawyers in the next few days, it is expected to conclude that the former FBI director improperly took with him memos that were FBI property when he was fired, transmitted classified information via an insecure email account, and shared some of the memos with his private lawyers. Some of the Comey memos were classified up to the “secret” level, but the FBI has not disclosed whether those were shared with his lawyers like the classified confidential memo was.”
“The memos, which mostly recount Comey’s interactions with Trump in the Russia case and include information about foreign leaders, were sensitive enough to require government officials to send a professional “scrub team” to a Comey lawyer’s office to ensure all classified information was deleted, sources previously told me.”

What is your view of the trillion dollar a year addition to the national debt under Trump? It was a major disaster in your view under Obama and the trend seems to be continuing.
You didn’t care about it under Obama, you certainly wouldn’t have given it a second thought under Clinton II, and you mocked the Tea Party types who actually did care about the issue Palooka.
Why should anyone care about your concerns about the matter now?
