It is the ultimate fantasy that we can live our lives, or at any rate live them in peace and contentment with each other, without ever having to share a common reality. – James Bowman

George Rebane

An example of fake newsApple News is a very comprehensive news website for Mac, iPad, and iPhone users, one that allows you to customize with your interests, and then augments the format with your viewing history – in short, it snoops in your user sessions.  Recently it included a piece from the National Geographic reporting on the military marine mammal programs of Russia and US (here).  I was a bit astounded that almost everything they reported on the US program was either false or grossly misleading.  Full disclosure – I and my company spent years supporting the US Navy’s marine mammal (and other animal) R&D programs as their analytical support team doing the heavy lifting in the math, data analysis, and systems design work.

The 6may19 Union’s op-ed has two pieces from our favorite leftwing columnists, Dr Milan Vodicka (search RR) and, of course, Mr George Boardman.  Dr Vodicka delivered one of his trademark muddled sermons on the joys of socialism (not posted yet).  There he attempted to augment Bertand Russell’s three factors motivating human behavior with a fractured taxonomy that makes absolutely no sense to the careful reader, and then went on to celebrate the free nationalized healthcare systems found in EU countries.  In the latter, he drinks the kool-aid by the gallon, and evinces no understanding of the realities that obtain.  Mr Boardman presents a good critique of the Republican California Senate candidates Assemblymen Dahle and Kiley, and then blows a tire describing the Democrat Audrey Denny attempting unseat Congressman LaMalfa (here).  Without so much as a smidgen of qualification or sourcing, he tells the reader that the Green New Deal is “a sweeping national plan to zero-out emissions and provide clean energy and infrastructure jobs to millions.”  Apparently, our columnist continues to have trouble distinguishing between objectives and plans, and reports the GND as actually being a plan.  Regardless, objectives or plans, It has a snowball’s chance in hell of accomplishing anything touted.

[7may19 update]  Spying v. Surveillance.  I don’t know why this is so difficult for the media talking heads to resolve (those on FN, not the lamestream whose agenda is known).  A nation’s law enforcement agency does surveillance (on an individual, group, organization) when the target of such intelligence gathering involves a domestic issue/parties that does NOT involve the presumed culpability of a foreign government.  That same agency conducts a spying operation when it seeks to gather intelligence on a matter that does involve a foreign government.  To infiltrate a domestic gang, you send in an 'undercover agent'; to surveil or infiltrate foreign government operations, you employ/send in 'spies'. That is the way we have successfully defined spying v. surveillance for generations.  Since Obama’s FBI et al were convinced from the gitgo that Team Trump was in cahoots with Russia, their surreptitious intelligence gathering efforts were clearly spying.

[8may19 update]  Upcoming tariffs increase on Chinese goods this Friday (10may19) is supposed to be in retaliation for the Chinese reneging on parts of the two countries’ established trade agreements and/or the progress made in the current negotiations.  And there’s a big debate on whether President Trump is doing the right thing with this retaliation.  The debate would be moot if the administration just published the details of China’s renege.  I don’t know why the big secret in not putting it out for all to see and judge for themselves as to the relative magnitudes of the offense vs the response.  Everyone involved in such negotiations around the world already knows what has gone down; the only ones ignorant who will be affected by it all are the people of China and America.  I can understand the communists keeping their people in the dark (it’s their nature), but I can’t see why our government also keeps us in the dark.

AG Barr will be held in contempt of a Democrat House, and that is again denigrating the intelligence of their own constituents – why?  Simply because they can.  They know that in the aggregate, Democrat voters have little or no idea how our government works or what the laws are, and they overwhelmingly consume media outlets that cynically keep them in the dark.  The rest of us know that AG Barr is under no legal imperative to release any of the Mueller report to anyone, or to even reveal its main contents/conclusions – why?  Because the special prosecutor came up with nothing with which to prosecute anyone.  (He diddled away the people’s money on a self-serving sideshow nailing individuals on process crimes, people who had nothing to do with his commissioned charter, and then wrote the best anti-Trump political blueprint that he could.)  Now scumbag Nadler is going to up it a notch and hold Barr in contempt for not releasing information that is against the law for him to release – please reread this.  And none of it has anything to do with Congress’ oversight function for legislative purposes.  Moreover, the whole thing is a total bag of bullcrap that Democrats are dealing out to their know-nothings as part and parcel of the Big Lie – i.e. anything it will take to defeat Trump in 2020.

[9may19 update] Well boys and girls, your humble host has now visited a genuine, legal pot shop.  A good friend (known to you all) with whom I often take lunch, took me on a tour of the Elevation 2477 cannabis dispensary in Nevada City.  The experience was quite remarkable.  We entered into an immaculate reception area at the end of which sat a uniformed security officer behind (bulletproof?) glass.  The room contained a nice couch and an abstract painting presumably abstracting some visions customers may enjoy after imbibing of the establishment’s offerings.  We were invited to the window to place our driver’s licenses against the glass to be scanned, and I being a newbie, was instructed to fill in a store “membership application”, studying the store’s rules, and then putting my John Hancock declaring that I understood everything.  My friend was already a member, so my joining up allowed us both to be ushered into the inner sanctum housing the stash.

The store itself was immaculately laid out with neat glass-cased counters displaying all the desiderata in various forms and at various concentrations of THC and CBD.  For the cognoscenti, this was no doubt a very inviting display as evinced by the palaver carried on between other customers and clerks, all of whom were very knowledgeable of both their products and the applicable legalese.  After getting some answers to my questions, my friend made a very modest purchase of probably their most benign SKU, and we made our way to the exit.  Then I noticed that the store’s walls each had a magnificent abstract painting cum mural on it, replicating their foyer and no doubt reinforcing visually the promises made by the cleverly named substances and concoctions.  As we left the premises, it occurred to me that I am now marked for life.

Green New Deal – Boldest Tactic Yet to Advance U.N. Agenda 21
    From Heartland
    March 28, 2019
    By Nancy J. Thorner
Most people in America don’t even realize that tentacles of a dangerous United Nations program are being enacted in our nation’s cities and certainly our country, with the full cooperation of those in our highest positions of authority.
Most people in America don’t even realize that tentacles of a dangerous United Nations program are being enacted in our nation’s cities and certainly our country, with the full cooperation of those in our highest positions of authority. It is so complicated and difficult to believe that many simply dismiss it, considering it just a conspiracy theory. But even a cursory investigation reveals it is very real and the evidence is easily attained.
This intrusive, all-encompassing plan that could eventually affect every aspect of our lives is known as “United Nations Agenda 21.” It’s pure communistic in nature. We all must fight against it if we are to remain a free people and nation. The Green New Deal happens to represent the boldest tactic yet toward the full implementation of Agenda 21 here in this nation.
The specific plan, United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, was a product of The Rio Conference held at Rio de Janeiro from June 3 – 14, 1992. It was to be implemented worldwide in order to inventory and control all land, all water, all minerals, all plants, all animals, all construction, all means of production, all energy, all education, all information, and all human beings in the world. As such Agenda 21 marked a new beginning for the U.N., a decisive point of departure for the world organization.
Project 21 contained twenty-seven principles warning against a mode of growth that was leading to the extinction of life on earth. Based on two fundamental ideas, development and environment, Project 21 was introduced as a cooperative task and challenge for world nations toward this goal: to establish the basic principles that must govern the conduct of nations and peoples towards each other and the Earth to ensure a secure and sustainable future.

You lefties have the double side step dance down to a T.
Denounce the news and then quickly divert to a side issue.
A straight up debate would pose issues you couldn’t even begin to fathom.
    The issue is Agenda 21.
If you have nothing of value to add or debate, I would suggest the cartoon channel.

for those who want to know more –The Heartland Institute is a Chicago-based free market think tank and 501(c)(3) charity that has been at the forefront of denying the scientific evidence for man-made climate change. While it no longer reveals its funding sources, previous donors include Exxon, the Koch brothers, Phillip Morris, and fossil fuel industry associations. It is considered to be a questionable source that exhibits “extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of transparency.” in the 1990s, the Heartland Institute worked with the tobacco company Philip Morris to question the science linking second-hand smoke to health risks, and lobbied against government public health reforms.
So basically Heartland is a bogus think tank that promotes bogus science to support bogus industry claims so that those corporations/investors can maximize profits by manipulating the public’s perceptions as to the hazards of their actual products for as long as possible. For example former Hearland President Joe Bast stated that “few, if any, adverse health effects” were associated with smoking. In a letter to Phillip Morris, Bast wrote “Heartland does many things that benefit Philip Morris’s bottom line, things that no other organization does.” In 2014 Bast denied having ever said smoking was not harmful despite hard evidence to the contrary.
So for those who really care, that about sums up the moral compass of the Heartland Institute…there is none. They will cook up studies to say whatever it’s donors want.. truth be damned.

Else it hangs there as an unsupported opinion – which is OK, but don’t try to pass it off as gospel for the rest of us.
Ozz 849am – You (and yours) continue to deny the UN’s A21 protocols. Of course, per se they are “non-binding guidelines”; nor do they have to be binding since the guidelines have been adopted in various forms by like-minded nations, including the US – Bush1 signed us up for promoting it. The facilitators for helping local governments proceed toward an A21 future are the global ICLEIs, of which over 500 are set up in the US, with half of them being in CA. As an example of their reach, many of the mid and senior level Nevada County government managers are ICLEI ‘graduates’.

A-21 is the doom and gloom hammer raised by the right when they see anything they don’t like or something they fear. Wild and Scenic River designation, international fish harvest agreements, and bike paths are all cited as tentacles of A-21 reaching insidiously into our lives.
Before A-21 it was the commies to blame for the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act. Climate change is a fraud driven by the Chinese to stifle American industry. Around every nook and corner the kooks of the paranoid militia see a boogyman. I haven’t looked, but it is likely some right wing nut has blamed the perceived specter of global chem trails and flu vaccines on A-21. Or was that Jade Helm or Y2K?

Agenda 21 will peter out when the failure of mainstream climate “science” to foretell the downturn in global temps starting about now and stretching out for 33 or 44 or so years. Something like that. Time will be telling.
Regarding Bored Georgeman’s column, I find it very interesting that Audrey Denney, wunderkind, is the very first person officially endorsed by AOC’s handlers, the Sunrise Movement, the folks who ambushed DiFi in her ‘frisco offices to demand she support the “Green New Deal”…
… I was immediately reminded of the LaMalfa’s campaign parody that had a bee up Audrey’s bonnet, the reworked pledge that she’d be following the commands of Mme. Speaker Pelosi… no, she’s now signed on to be AOC’s lickspittle. LaMalfa’s people didn’t aim low enough.
With that, Denney’s being on the Board of a 501c3 (cristosal.org) that is actively sending up illegal migrant caravans from El Salvador, and her borderline fraudulent claim to be a Farmer/Educator on the ballot when she doesn’t farm and doesn’t have a classroom to teach in (she’s a “learning designer”, and I think someone should ask her what that is), the LaMalfa campaign has a bundle to work with.
That, and her desire to ban semi-automatic rifles and pistols, should make things interesting, even in Butte and Nevada counties.
Too bad the GOP incumbent is as weak as he is. Overall, an OK good ol’ boy who is nonetheless smarter than Denney.

How is that different from saying NO you cannot pollute the air the rest of us breath simply because its a cheaper way to produce your widget and make buck? As much as he might like to, Todd cannot build his leach field on the banks of Wolf Creek simply because it’s cheap and he doesn’t give a shit about the creek. Another virtue signaling NGD stupidity. When NC did its bag ban the facts of one use not being one use was exactly what I testified –
A recent study of plastic bag bans in California found that the policy—while still reducing plastic bag consumption overall—did lead to a 120 percent spike in the purchase of smaller garbage bags.
As it turns out, the single-use plastic bags people used at the grocery store were hardly single-use at all, but rather were reused to line waste baskets or clean up after pets. When the free option disappeared, people simply started purchasing unprohibited garbage bags.
New Jersey’s bag ban would seem to have a similar potential for this kind of substitution. While it bars stores from handing out thinner plastic bags, it still allows them to provide customers with plastic tote bags provided they’re thicker than 10 mils.
As written, stores could well end up ditching their current carry-out bags for another type of thicker plastic bag, which would seemingly increase overall plastic consumption.

Equating emitting CO2 with taking a dump on Ozz/Frisch’s driveway is the problem here.
Steve/Ozz is arguing against straw men of his own creation.
CO2 is the least of our environmental problems.

Froggy 7:48 — then there is the fish doll – pull its string and nothing of any consequence comes out.

OUCH…..Roberta……get me to the “Burn Unit”. Imagine how much worse your response would have been if you weren’t “highly educated”!

The problem was and continues to be that Oooze is arguing from ignorance. He proudly proclaims he doesn’t read what he doesn’t agree with so he actually knows little or nothing about A21. The MS news media is not going to report the extreme views of the A21 backers, but conservative news outlets will. All Oooze hears about A21 is vacuous platitudes concerning wonderful things that are all free for everyone and certainly at no cost of money or freedoms for him.
Meanwhile he brings up stories of raw sewage and shooting dogs. It’s all he can do.

This country was founded based on a unique document. That document celebrates the rights and freedom of the individual while rejecting a centralized government with its tentacles reaching into every aspect of our lives. Today we (some) still celebrate the individual and reject with all our might the ever increasing calls for more and more control of our daily lives from a centralized government whose lust for increasing power is insatiable and it’s means are indeed insidious and innumerable.
This thread is all about impose, impose, impose and the insatiable thirst for power, not good. And, this thread reveals the reaction to the growing perception that the GND is but a ridiculous sick joke.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the Dems lately appear to offer absolutely nothing and there are zero arrows in their quiver? They seem flat footed and empty handed after buying into spin of the Great Lies. Don’t matter. We will all be dead in 3 1/2 days.

Ozz, some light reading for you:
UN Agenda 21 policies date back to the 1970’s but it got its real start in 1992 at the United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro when President Bush signed onto it along with the leaders of 178 other countries. Because it is a ‘soft law’ it did not have to be ratified by the Congress. The following year President Clinton began to implement it by creating the President’s Council on Sustainable Development (PCSD). Made up of cabinet level government officials, captains of industry (including Ken Lay of Enron), and non-profit groups such as the Sierra Club, one of the first tasks of the PCSD was to give a multi-million dollar grant to the American Planning Association to design a legislative guidebook to be used as a blueprint for every city, county, and state in the United States in order to implement UN Agenda 21. This document, called Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook: Model Statutes for Planning and the Management of Change, took seven years to complete, and a full nine years to arrive at the final version. The guidebook, and it’s not just a guidebook but a blueprint, contains sample legislation, ordinances, rules, regulations and statutes to be incorporated into the General Plans of every single city and county in the United States. By 2002 every planning department and every local, state, and federal department that governs land use had a copy and was implementing the practices. Every university, every college, every junior college, private school and teaching institution in our nation was using Growing Smart in its curriculum. Sound familiar? Growing Smart is Smart Growth.

Do the people in Lake Wildwood wish that Nevada City still dumped its raw effluent into Deer Creek? Our sewage treatment facilities would be considered by you as something dictated by A21 were they proposed today.
    There you have it.

In debate, your response is known as a deflection, a non-answer. Usually given by someone whose only real answer is to concede the point. Score: 0 points.
Todd’s answer fits in the same category as catcalling a 13 year old girl. He’d be kicked off the team.
