[The $2T infrastructure bill is going to be a problem that the Dems hope will choke Team Trump. What about letting the several states plan and do the infrastructure work in their states under a coordinated plan from the feds. The states can come up with novel public/private funding schemes which may involve the feds only to the extent of guaranteeing loans and bond issues of those they approve. Thoughts? gjr]

My daily check in. North of Dublin tonight. The Mrs. Got to meet her new found kin. Vary nice people.
Her cousin’s family kept texting to find out what we were like. I told her to tell them we smelled, obnoxious, and talked funny. After a tour of the family history,we all went back to meet the family. Had a wonderful time. We brought some American candy for the kids. They should be bouncing off the walls by now.
American sugar is better than Irish sugar.

Election day over here. I have been keeping my head low in asking about the politics here. Some love Trump some don’t.
One did ask me if I liked Trump, and shook my hand when I gave my answer.
Most of the people are pissed that the political class won’t listen. Brexit is wanted.. just not by the law makers.
Just reporting what I over heard in any given pub. Getting thursty again. The Irish cider is damned good.

Oz 117pm – Actually it is a culture that incorporates social protocols that bestow and recognize honorifics that memorialize the people’s positions and achievements. People who have been a senator will always be addressed in polite company as Senator, or Ambassador, or Speaker, or Professor, or Doctor, or Secretary, or Mayor, or Counselor, or General/Colonel/… . For example in Europe even a graduate engineer had Dipl. Ins. appended to his name as lawyers use Esq. It is nothing beyond a gracious recognition of accomplishment that communicates both ways in its use or omission.

In different countries, the usage is not the same as here. I found out that in Canada you can not use Dr. as a title unless you are an accredited medical doctor. In Italy, any university degree in the hard sciences can earn you the title of doctor. And the equivalent of a masters can earn you a title of (instructor) I can’t remember the Italian word, but it’s close.
Germany has it’s own formalities.
I realize in this country it’s considered a bit (or a lot) snooty to insist on being titled as doctor unless you are a medical doctor, but even then most medical doctors I know socially resist being called by that title.
Not a big deal for me, but I really dislike the folks that try to lord it over you that they have a university degree from so and so and you had better remember that if there is a disagreement of realities.
Sorry – your 2+2=4 aint one spit better than mine.
I bow to those who exhibit grace and wisdom in educating those around them with their knowledge of the world but please let me be protected from those that spew crap-facts they pick up from the politically correct crowd that seems to inhabit so many institutions of so-called ‘higher learning’. They ‘know’ a lot of facts, but have no wisdom or point of reference in the universe to inform their educated ignorance.

How about some Daily Quotes. BTW, my title is Oh Great and Mighty Illustrious One, but you can call by my preferred pronoun, MOAB.
Insight: “We shall soon be in a world in which a man may be howled down for saying that two and two make four, in which people will persecute the heresy of calling a triangle a three-sided figure, and hang a man for maddening a mob with the news that grass is green.” —G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936)
Food for thought: “Mueller’s first indictments of Russians for interference in the 2016 elections came in February 2018. I believe Mueller likely knew then that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Yet he let the investigation drag on rather than release that fact in order to increase the left’s chances of victory in the 2018 elections. Perhaps we need another investigation of election interference.” —Gary Bauer
Demo-gogues: “It’s simply another step in the administration’s growing attack on American democracy … a great danger for American democracy … and it is part of the attack on American democracy.” —House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler on Bill Barr’s refusal to play along and the danger that poses to our Republic, er, “democracy”
Braying Jenny: “I think that the Democrats on the committee did a good job … in exposing that … [William Barr] is the president’s defense lawyer. He is not the attorney general of the United States in the way that he has conducted himself. Now, calling for his resignation makes perfect sense, because he’s not discharging the duties of the office.” —Hillary Clinton
Still tone-deaf: “Through a program we had through community colleges, we can teach people how to code. We went out, literally into the hood, and they found, turns out, 54 [people]. They happened to be all women. The vast majority were women of color, no more than a high-school degree, aged 25-54, and a third of them only had GEDs.” —Joe Biden
Alpha Jackass: “[Donald Trump Jr. is] the first proof I’ve got that a mother ought to have the right to have an abortion. They made the decision to have him, didn’t they? They could have aborted him. But they made the decision to keep him. He’s evidently retarded or crazy. Donald Trump’s son, I know he’s — something wrong with that boy. I look at him and tell something wrong with him. That’s the best defense I got right there for abortion, looking at him.” —Alabama State Rep. John Rogers (D), who earlier unconscionably remarked, “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later.”
And last… “The fact that Facebook banned these high profile accounts all at once just proves that this is not a fair and objective enforcement of the rules. Did they all violate the rules at the exact same time? Or was this a PR stunt? Seems obvious that it’s the latter. And if Facebook wanted to ban Alex Jones for the Sandy Hook conspiracy stuff (which was truly insane and morally debased), why didn’t they do it 5 years ago?” —Matt Walsh

It’s like the guy who carries 50 keys jangling from a fob, 3 cell phones on their belt, or 4 antennae from the roof of their car – a label of pretentiousness that only they can appreciate as a symbol of their superiority over something, but everyone else laughs at them behind their back.

The game has changed in big ways and its a good thing –
Whatever the reality, the Trump administration’s posture toward China is having consequences. Quietly, over the past year, as many as a dozen China-linked firms have scaled back their US investment programs, some dramatically, Recode has learned, due to more aggressive behavior by a regulatory body called the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS.
The gist of the CFIUS saga is that Republicans led the charge to increase the power and resources of the agency after President Donald Trump talked up the danger posed by China and brought his “America First” philosophy to Washington.
The more muscular CFIUS is having a major effect on the tech world, whose biggest names love to virtue-signal in the media but had very little problem taking money from oppressive regimes until the federal agency began reviewing their deals with foreign governments more closely to protect “critical technology.”
Word is spreading through the tech industry that taking Chinese money has become more trouble than it is worth because even when approval is ultimately granted, the review process can grind on for months — an expensive delay in the fast-paced tech world. American tech firms that have not been completely scared away from doing business with the Chinese are beginning to drive harder bargains with them and take greater notice of the weird, intrusive demands Chinese firms often make of foreign partners

You rancid Russian dressing set need to sit down, the Trump administration just ate putins lunch and will be taking his cash cow in the EU away and paying our workers with that EU cash. Balance of trade realignment too! WINNING squared!
“If we really want to reach our climate objectives in Europe, we need our policymakers to acknowledge the value and role of gas in both in the short, and longer term,” Francois-Régis Mouton, IOGP director of European Union (EU) Affairs said. “The U.S., the UK and others around the world have shown what an impact shifting from coal to gas makes from a CO2 emission reduction and air quality perspective.”
“By making a smart use of Europe’s own gas resources and the LNG supplied by partners such as the U.S., we can bring about a system combining renewables and gas which provides a secure supply of affordable and clean energy to Europeans,” Mouton said.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2018 the United States hit record-high natural gas production for the second year in a row.
The EIA also announced in September 2018 that the U.S. became the world’s largest producer of crude oil, surpassing Russia and Saudi Arabia.

A midnight snack on the reality of the situation in the swamp –
Bloomberg) — Attorney General William Barr’s snub of a House hearing on Robert Mueller’s Russia report exposed that Democrats are in an awkward position: They don’t have any good options for forcing the Trump administration to cooperate with their multiple investigations.
Democrats seeking to compel — or punish — Barr and others who ignore Democratic invitations and subpoenas could pursue contempt proceedings, which carry no tangible penalty when branches of government face off, or take action in court, which would be protracted.
Even if the House were to find Barr in contempt, it would be up to a U.S. attorney and the Justice Department — led by Barr — to prosecute. And the department isn’t likely to act when the official’s non-compliance is at the direction of the president. Federal prosecutors have broad discretion over whether to bring charges.

Attorney General Barr is pursuing an inquiry into the Obama administration’s decision to conduct a foreign counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign. The time is now, they figure, to reprise the Ken Starr treatment: the ad hominem withering of an accomplished, highly capable official — in this instance, one who is daring to press questions that would have been answered two years ago if an incumbent Republican administration had spied on — er, monitored — a Democratic presidential campaign”

The Dems simply can not get over the fact that Trump won the election. The ‘collusion’ nonsense worked in that it was a complete lie, but with the help of the MS news media it put a cloud over Trump administration among the light thinking masses for years. They stretched it as far as it would go and now it’s onward with ‘obstruction’ and ‘contempt’. They’ll bang those drums until some new trope can be devised and so forth right up to the election. After all the talk of impeachment, why bother to actually proceed? The constant chatter about it is great for fund-raising and something to blather on about when appearing on news programs. Watch for the central theme of whomever runs on the Dem ticket for POTUS being a ‘candidate who raises above the rancor and strife’ and ‘will heal and unify our nation’. Never mind that the candidate in question as well as all the other Dem primary candidates were part of the ‘rancor’ they will claim to rise above. The trick will be for the Dems and the news media to put the lid on any open warfare among the primary candidates leading up to the convention. Trump will be Trump and shoot his mouth off right up to the election, so the Rs best hope is a repeat of the Dem Chicago convention of 1968.

Barr is a target of applied Machiavellian dynamics… forgive me for repeating myself… Machiavelli never wrote “the end justifies the means”, it was a much more subtle, something like “if a ruler is to be judged and there are no disinterested observers, the voters will take the results into account”.
The “politics of personal destruction” was in place to destroy people like Starr and Barr so that any action they take can be dismissed as the actions of a rabid partisan. If it’s true that the Obama administration used the powers of the CIA, NSA, FBI and the IRS against the GOP, there will be hell to pay by DEMs in November 2020. Also 2022, 2024, 2026 and 2028.
In deference to Greta Thunberg, the 16 year old Klimajungend wunderkindfrom Sweden, I’ll not comment on 2030 as we all know the world as we know it will not exist in 2030.
It might even be an opening for the Libertarian Party to pick up the DEM pieces, at least the ones that are not battered and burned to a crisp by Antifa assaults in the 2020 Democratic Convention. Speaking of the LIB party, I chatted face to face with Paul Emery yesterday… Apparently he’s abandoned all pretense of being a LIB now (even a Green ™ Libertarian) and is now embracing his inner fascist Democrat… in particular he singled out Senator Amy Frau Blucher for praise.

The fakenewsman meltdowns are getting too funny if it weren’t for the fact they still have people who watch, the true believers if you will –
In trying to explain why the economy has roared back to life under Trump, Hayes told his nearly two million Twitter followers this [emphasis added]:
Lots of regular people – critics, bloggers, gadflies, etc were able to see this but the commanding heights of the econ/policy/political worlds either could not or would not.
Or, an even less charitable interpretation: they didn’t get it wrong at all. They didn’t want full employment, they didn’t want wage growth and empowered workers and they certainly didn’t want that happening under a Democratic president.
I mean, years of the titans of industry whining about the skills mismatch, how they can’t find good workers, and chin-stroking conferences about labor force participation, and columns about how it was workers’ own fault, on and on and on, all just garbage.

Oh what a Web we weave when at first we try to deceive.
Interesting developments on the Collusion Delusion Fakenews narrative, but I am way ahead of the news cycle and have to wait 4, 6, or 8 weeks for lamestream to catch up. When the Russian-Traitor Candidate first unfolded, our own Dr. Rebane dropped one statement about the involvement of our intel with the British in cohorts. I am afraid the British involvement is worse than I previously feared.
Does anyone think the US could ever run a covert operation to frame a US citizen out of London without our CIA knowing? Or the British running an operation on a US citizen without our CIA knowing? Does anyone believe that? And, does anyone believe the US could run a covert operation with Western Intelligence assets in London without the British fully aware and cooperating?
As the plot thickens we were once told that the mysterious Maltese professor was a Russian asset. Suppose the good Maltese professor is a Western Intelligence asset that was coordinating with the British and our allies. Suppose the faux “institute” the good professor “founded” in a small empty building was a front for Western Intelligence people.
Now, suppose President Trump picked up the phone last week or so and called the Italian Prime Minister. He did. Suppose this last week some Italian newspapers are running articles about the Italian Parliament opening a Investigation to what role the Italian Intelligence Agencies played in setting up George Papadopoulos with the Maltese professor in Italy to aid the Obama Administration in spying on a political opponent’s Presidential campaign to effect the outcome of a US election..and provide a cover story for doing so. Don’t suppose. It’s in the Italian press, but mysteriously not covered here. Guess our US press hasn’t discovered the Google translate button.
Suppose it was Azra Turk, not Halper, that arraigned For Papadopoulos to go to London and meet her in a bar………..
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/02/us/politics/fbi-government-investigator-trump.html
And suppose the NYT released the story to control the narrative that puts the FBI in the more favorable light that they did what they did because they became frantic believing Trump was colluding with Russia. Control the narrative!
I don’t buy the frantic excuse for a millisecond. The NYT released this leaked story about spying (after saying Trump was a conspiracy theorist nut job for talking about spying for months) because they know it’s all going to come out. There is a new sheriff in town and everyone is jockeying to control the narrative.

B) How about some of those Democracy Dollars? Lay it one me, baby.
“Gillbrand is now in the “Throw everything against the wall and see what sticks” stage, unveiling a cockamamie plan “to give every voter up to $600 in what she calls ‘Democracy Dollars’ that they can donate to federal candidates for office.” Yes, she wants to take your tax dollars, give you $600 back, and then allow you to donate that money to political candidates like her.
“Her plan is spectacularly contradictory: “The money could go only to elections in the donor’s state, although they could be used for House candidates outside the voter’s district.” Apparently it’s somehow unethical to donate to candidates in another state, but not in another congressional district.
“Gillibrand based her plan on a program enacted in Seattle in 2017, which gave four $25 Democracy Vouchers to every Seattle resident for use in two at-large city council races and the contest for city attorney. Advocates for the program celebrated the fact that more than 18,000 Seattle residents used the vouchers. Less celebrated was the fact that this number represented less than four percent of eligible residents; more than 96 percent of Seattle residents ignored the program.”

Past speculation about Biden family drama has centered on Hunter’s documented struggle with drug use and his recently ended relationship with his late brother’s widow. But the bigger threat might actually be Hunter’s past business enterprises. Already, there’s another attack line looming on the horizon: in his latest book, Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, Breitbart editor-at-large Peter Schweizer describes how a private-equity firm managed by Hunter Biden, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, negotiated a $1.5 billion investment deal with the state-owned Bank of China at the same time that his father, then the vice president, was conducting high-level diplomacy with Beijing. (On one of his trips, Hunter allegedly made use of Air Force Two.) Whether or not the Chinese hoped to curry favor with Hunter’s father, Trump allies are sure to make note of the issue, especially given Joe Biden’s controversial remark this week downplaying China as an economic competitor. (A spokesman for Hunter Biden disputed Schweizer’s claims to the Journal.)
“In December of 2013, Hunter Biden flies on Air Force 2 to Beijing, China, with his father,” Schweizer said. “His father meets with Chinese officials, he’s very soft on Beijing. The most important thing that happens [is] 10 days after they return. And that’s when Hunter Biden’s small, private equity firm called Rosemont Seneca Partners gets a $1 billion private equity deal with the Chinese government, not with the Chinese corporation, with the government. And what people need to realize is Hunter Biden has no background in China. He has no background in private equity. The deal he got in the Shanghai free-trade zone, nobody else had — Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Blackstone, nobody had this deal.”
“There’s no question when you chart what Joe Biden is doing with China — the meetings he’s having and the deals that his son is procuring at the same time — that they are buying off Biden through his son. I think it’s crystal clear,” Schweizer added.

“Those Dems can’t get over it”
For 8 years you spewed (non stop) about Obama’s “illegal” presidency. And then there was Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi until election day, then suddenly, out of the blue, bam – Benghazi was a non issue. It just mysteriously dropped off the radar. Republicans in charge of everything, but suddenly the investigations stopped and all was quiet. My do you boys have a short memory when it comes to political harassment. Goes with the territory. Don’t pretend otherwise – it makes you look stupid (sorry Todd, nothing you can do about the stupid genes).

Benghazi has not “dropped off the radar” at all. What has come out in the interval are corruption and incompetence issues surrounding Team Obama and the Dems that far outweigh Benghazi, and demand more immediate attention. Benghazi will again be dealt with when we work down the list to the less important ones. One must husband the news bandwidth and the electorate’s attention span.

Oooozing with stupidity -“Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi”
Trying to appear ever more stupid than ever, Oooze tries to equate Benghazi with Russian Collusion.
Listen up, buttercup – There was no Russian Collusion. None. A total lie. Your savior Mueller says so.
The tragedy at Benghazi was real. People died. How f’ing stupid are you, Ooooze? Would you care to hear what was done to our ambassador? Or don’t you give a damn about human life?
We know for a fact that Obama and Hillary concocted a deliberate and monstrous lie that the attack was just a ‘street demonstration’. A handful of our soldiers were on the roof pleading for help with direct phone communication and were ignored. Shameful. Obama is one miserable piece of dog excrement. Hillary is no better.

Don 3:43 – That’s good news for employers who want to hire legal immigrants. The old set up under Obummer was that a employer could not check an SS number until the person was hired. Then it was incumbent on the employer to try to determine if the hire was legal or using a phony number. The govt put the onus on the employer to try to figure out if the number was legit. The employers just gave up and didn’t challenge the ones that seemed illegal as they faced a massive law suit if they were wrong. Such a simple thing. Of course the Dems are screaming. The idea of being able to uphold the law! How racist!

Nice try, Ooooze – your statement was “For 8 years you spewed (non stop) about Obama’s “illegal” presidency.”
You who? What person that posted here filed any lawsuits?
And Obama just laughed at the idea as it was never held against him in any meaningful way. In fact he fund-raised off of it. He loved it. He was in Hawaii a lot and could have ended the talk right away if he had wanted to, but he liked the non-controversy to cover all of his criminal activities. He never had to face anything like Trump had to (the lie about collusion with Russia) face over it. If anything, Obama had no one but himself to blame as he portrayed himself when it was convenient as a younger man to be an import from Africa. Later as a candidate for POTUS, there was some serious coverup to be done.
Question for those who can think and reason – do you really believe that Obama and the Dems were in any way hurt in public opinion over the birthright issue as much as Trump and the Rs have had to face with the lie about Russian collusion?
I just don’t seem to recall any multi year investigation by a special prosecutor over Obama’s birth certificate dragging in Obama’s buddies at gun point? But maybe Oooze does. He has a great imagination.

OOZE claimed this blog was spewing the anti-Obama crapola for eight years. Then when asked for proof does the lame lefty diversion of now giving a WIKI link. The facts are the people here simply disagreed with Obama’s policies. We, for the most part, stayed away from personal invective. But that does not deter these liars like OOZE and his pals. Hell some broad wrote a totally vacuous column in the Union today and sounds just like OOZE. Hmmm.

Obama got non-stop criticism for his actions and rightfully so. If Oooze or his fellow travelers want to criticize Trump for his actions or policy, so be it. Maybe bitch about record low unemployment of non-whites (much better than Obama) or a sound economy. Go ahead and complain. Maybe Oooze might want to consider how many computer hard drives just seemed to up and quit under the Obama admin. Or the laptops that ‘went missing’. Doesn’t seem to be a problem with Trump running the show.
The best Oooze can come up with is ‘Russian Collusion’ which has proven to be an outright lie.
So – c’mon Oooze – what actual Trump policy don’t you like and why?
Too many darkies working? Not enough on the dole?
Just what is your bitch?

The Ukrainian Embassy confirmed recently that a Democratic National Committee contractor had asked for dirt on former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort during the election in order to help Hillary Clinton, according to a recent bombshell report from The Hill.
Ukrainian Ambassador Valeriy Chaly’s office told The Hill that DNC contractor Alexandra Chalupa sought information from Ukraine on Paul Manafort’s dealings inside the country in hopes of forcing the issue before Congress. She also tried to have then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko comment on Manafort during a visit there in 2016.
Chaly said the embassy knew Chalupa in her role as a Ukrainian-American activist, learned only later of her ties to the DNC, and rejected her requests because he thought it was not appropriate to interfere in the U.S. election.

Record low unemployment?
OMG! They have to go to work!
The Dems claim that Trump has undone all the good work of Obama.
The Dems claim the great economy is because of Obama.
So – Trump gets rid of Obama’s good work yet Obama’s good work magically still works!
So – which is it?

Re: George the Greek. Rome struck a cord. Think Peter said he had to catch a flight to Rome in one of his texts. Or was that London? From last Oct. 18.
“They must demand answers: Who was Mifsud? What connections did he have with Western intelligence agencies? Or do the FBI and DOJ believe he is a Russian agent? And why? Finally, and most significantly, where is the FBI’s 302 interview summary and video tape of the agents’ questioning of Mifsud in Washington D.C. in February 2017? Had Mifsud been a Russian agent, the FBI could have arrested him then, but didn’t. Why not?
“Maybe House investigators already know the answers to these questions, but Americans need the answers too in order to restore trust in the integrity of the FBI, DOJ, and those in Congress charged with oversight.”
https://thefederalist.com/2018/10/19/theres-another-explanation-peter-strzoks-march-2016-texts-setting-trump/
From Jan. 22, 2018.
Ratcliffe continued: “We learned today about information that in the immediate aftermath of his election, there may have been a ‘secret society’ of folks within the Department of Justice and the FBI, to include Page and Strzok, working against him. I’m not saying that actually happened, but when folks speak in those terms, they need to come forward to explain the context.”
About the “secret society,” Gowdy said: “You have this insurance policy in Spring 2016, and then the day after the election, what they really didn’t want to have happen, there is a text exchange between these two FBI agents, these supposed to be fact-centric FBI agents saying, ‘Perhaps this is the first meeting of the secret society.’ So I’m going to want to know what secret society you are talking about, because you’re supposed to be investigating objectively the person who just won the electoral college. So yeah — I’m going to want to know.”

I have suspected that the National Democrat Party leaders and thee 2020 Dem-Socialcrats are way more left than the rank and file.
“In January, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D–NY) signed a bill to cement the central holdings of Roe v. Wade as state law. In lockstep with other Democratic leaders, Cuomo deployed “health” as an undefined, catch-all term to open the door for abortion at any stage of pregnancy. Moreover, he repealed protections for infants born alive that formerly entitled them to all life-sustaining efforts.
“Eight days later, Gov. Ralph Northam (D–VA) endorsed the removal of third-trimester abortion restrictions through labor and delivery. Northam argued that physicians should deliver the infant alive when the mother is in labor, then keep the infant comfortable, he said. Then, if the mother desires, physicians should resuscitate the child, or leave the child to die. He said at that point the physician and the mother should discuss how to proceed—i.e., whether to kill or care for the infant.
“Merely 13 percent of Americans support national Democratic leaders’ position on third-trimester abortion. Nevertheless, Democratic presidential candidates Beto O’Rourke and Pete Buttigieg favor third-trimester abortion. They aren’t alone on this in the Democratic presidential field.
“On January 31, 2019, Sen. Ben Sasse (R–NE) introduced the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Under the bill, infants born alive after surviving an attempted abortion are legal persons under American law and entitled to all legal protections thereunder. Moreover, the bill would entitle infants to the same level of care as any other patient.
However, Democratic presidential candidates in the Senate voted against the bill. Sens. Cory Booker (D–NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (D–NY), Kamala Harris (D–CA), Amy Klobuchar (D–MN), Bernie Sanders (I–VT), and Elizabeth Warren (D–MA) voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Yet, 87 percent of Americans reject third-trimester abortions. Seventy-seven percent of voters support born-alive infant protections. Now grassroots Democrats are taking notice.”
