“Conservatism is corporatism in disguise. I want no part of it. … The nation with the closest political and social values to my own is the People’s Republic of China. … Conservatism is dead, thank God.” Australian Brenton Tarrant, NZ shooter
George Rebane
The Christchurch massacre has been covered extensively and also received an initial go-through by RR commenters. As always happens in the coverage of such massacres, they are characterized as ‘insane’, ‘the acts of a deranged person’, and ‘senseless killings’. I have always thought that we’re missing something significant about these mass killings when we dismiss them as such. Years ago, I gave my own take on these killers of the Islamic persuasion in ‘Of Ragheads and Racism’. However, it should be clear that those sentiments are not restricted to terrorists of only one persuasion; there is a lot happening in this world which requires a wider and more detailed look.
Reading the Brenton Tarrant manifesto titled ‘The Great Replacement’ ( Download The-Great-Replacement-New-Zealand-Shooter), I highlighted some salient points that are worth noting as we assess his motives, objective, and MO. Instead of knitting these into continuous prose, I am leaving them as numbered paragraphs for easy reference in any discussion which might ensue.
- Tarrant is rational and not crazy; he is definitely an admitted a racist. He has a very specific starting point from which he reasons out a specific world in trouble that needs to be fixed through his draconian prescriptions. In trying to understand him, and others like him, we do ourselves no benefit by calling him insane or deranged with little forethought or without examination of his extensively recorded motivations.
- Tarrant holds beliefs equivalent to the sincere beliefs of Muslim terrorists, while we may vilify such beliefs, it would be a mistake to characterize any of those as insane. Within their ontology and received logic, their terror is totally supported within their reasoning which turns out to be very similar to Tarrant’s.
- Tarrant wanted to destabilize western societies in developed countries in order to bring about a racial revolution to transform them into culturally cohesive white-dominated, nation-states that would preserve white European cultures.
- Tarrant is not a ‘white supremacist’ – nowhere does he say or imply that whites should rule the world. Instead, he sees an ideal world being a collection of territorially bounded distinct cultures.
- He may be a ‘white nationalist’ (depending on whose definition is used), and is definitely a self-admitted racist and “ethno-nationalist”.
- Tarrant seeks to halt and reverse the declining demographic of European-descended white people. That is the prime focus of his objective and/or utility.
- Both crazy and sane people can and do share Tarrant’s set of beliefs. But not necessarily his MO.
- Tarrant claims to represent “Millions of European and other ethno-nationalist peoples that wish to live in peace amongst their own people, living in their own lands, practicing their own traditions and deciding the future of their own kind.”
- He plans the Left to play into his hand to abolish the 2nd Amendment in US, which then “will result in a dramatic polarization of the people in the United States and eventually a fracturing of the US along cultural and racial lines.” Absent his murderous rampage, we are already well on the way on that path.
- Tarrant’s world order – “I wish the different peoples of their world all the best regardless of their ethnicity, race, culture of faith and that they live in peace and prosperity, amongst their own people, practicing their own traditions, in their own nations. But, if those same people seek to come to my people’s lands, replace my people, subjugate my people, make war upon on my people, then I shall be forced to fight them, and hold nothing in reserve.”
- According to my lights, such horrific murderous acts do not promote his desired world order. In fact, they do the opposite by strengthening the narrative of the opponents of western culture. Western culture per se is not racist or racially specific since much of the world has successfully adopted and practiced large parts of it in their own lands.
- On diversity: Tarrant rationalizes his support for qualified diversity by characterizing his “attack in the name of diversity. To ensure diverse peoples remain diverse, separate, unique, undiluted in unrestrained cultural or ethnic expression and autonomy. To ensure that the peoples of the world remain true to their traditions and faiths and do not become watered down and corrupted by the influence of outsiders. The attack was to ensure a preservation of beauty, art and tradition. In my mind a rainbow is only beautiful due to its variety of colours, mix the colours together and you destroy them all and they are gone forever and the end result is far from anything beautiful.” (This last is shared by many writers who decry the amalgamation of cultures.)
- “I am an Ethno-nationalist Eco-fascist. Ethnic autonomy for all peoples with a focus on the preservation of nature, and the natural order.” “The Europe of the future is not one of concrete and steel, smog and wires but a place of forests, lakes, mountains and meadows. Not a place where english is the defacto language but a place where every European language, belief and tradition is valued. Each nation and each ethnicity was melded by their own environment and if they are to be protected so must their own environments.” (Also claims to be anti-conservative and anti-capitalist, p24, see below)
- “THE UNARMED INVADER IS MORE DANGEROUS THAT THE ARMED”, p43 – this is another widely shared view.
- “Democracy is mob rule and the mob itself is ruled by our own enemies. The global and corporate ran(sic) press controls them, the education system (long since fallen to the long march through the institutions committed by the marxists) controls them, the state (long since heavily lost to its corporate backers) controls them and the anti-white media machine controls them.”, p59
- Tarrant calls for “ethnic genocide” – Do not fret on the manner of how victory is achieved, all methods are possible, in the face of ethnic genocide, all morality is ambiguous.” (radical Islam concurs)
- Capitalism is the willing traitor with its demand for cheap labor. “Break the back of cheap labor. Whether that is by encouraging and pushing increases to the minimum wage; furthering the unionization of workers; increasing the native birthrate and thereby reducing the need for the importation of labour; increasing the rights of workers; pushing for the increase in automation or advancement of industrial labour replacement or any other tactic that is available. In the end human greed and the need for increasing profit margins of capital owners needs to be fought against and broken.” p68
- Tarrant’s endgame is a race-based civil war in the United States. In a somewhat muddled verbiage he exhorts, “A boil over in the melting pot Civil war in the so called ‘Melting pot’ that is the United States should be a major aim in overthrowing the global power structure and the Wests’ egalitarian, individualist, globalist dominant culture. In the United States, perhaps more than anywhere else in the world, the cult of the individual has been practiced for the longest time and with the deepest devotion.” p69. (group-based, identity politics – now where do we continue to experience that?)
Tarrant’s multi-faceted observations touch on many acknowledged problems and features of our world. But his solution of a post-bellum globe consisting of walled nation-states to remain racially pure AND culturally cohesive, is both impossible and undesirable. I oppose all such acts of terror that are designed to destabilize, not because they cannot destabilize, because most certainly they can. However, no one knows or can control how the destabilization will develop, save that it will entail horrible human suffering and possibly the end of our species on this earth – both world wars of the 20th century attest to that.
Also, such racial isolationism, as Tarrant would like see, has historically not worked, and if tried again, will again inhibit human progress. The entropy of human intercourse dictates that our racial future is an amalgam of humanity – mankind will inevitably proceed toward a population in which racial differences blur and then disappear. (And we have yet to consider what will happen when the new transhumans weigh in.)
But I fear that Tarrant’s message will resonate with a sizeable number of dedicated and/or insane people on the fringes that share versions of his beliefs and world view, and continue to motivate new acts of such violence. And this becomes more likely as the Left’s promotion of illegal cross-border migrations continue in Europe and the US. Most certainly, the equivalent of that has already happened in the world of Islam where the west is taught as the pernicious enemy of the Prophet and the faithful of Allah.
My own desire (i.e. Rebane Doctrine desiderata) is that we will not be forced to become a cultural amalgam. My hope is that humanity sees value in promoting and preserving distinct, albeit slowly evolving, cultures that are best achieved in the context of independent, liberal, and sovereign nation-states under a renewed Westphalian order. This will promote an orderly evolution and betterment of the human condition as the independent, commercially interacting states observe, examine, and voluntarily adopt ‘best practices’ from other lands. According to my lights, it is under such a world order that we can best fulfill our destiny as a space-faring civilization destined to go to the stars. Such a future is not possible if humanity succumbs to a global leviathan dominated by any given race, religion, or ideology that inexorably then degenerates into a stable and self-sustaining tyranny.
