When the Judge starts out with
“But a Nevada County judge, citing his youth and recent research that shows the inefficacy of incarceration for youthful offenders, postponed his sentencing in favor of a diagnosis and treatment evaluation.”
Things ain’t going to go well for us law abiding citizens.

Walt – You are correct. Proper goat management includes “long duration, low intensity grazing.” Reinette is proposing “High intensity, short duration grazing”. Once the land is cleared, goats must be left in high enough density to keep up with the reproduction. Renting goats 5 weeks out of the year (at 30k!!!) is a simpleton’s approach. Expecting homeless people to prune and weed whack on a perpetual basis does not conform to the reality of how homeless people behave. In 5 years this will quietly die away and be but just another line on Senum’s epitaph.

Well Ned,, I bet a few Jacksons that a few homeless will be well fed in camp. Just wait for the smell of BBQ goat and Curry to fill the evening air.
Now wait for the bill for goat damage. “They ate my POT PATCH!!!”

The story is already morphing. Today’s press release in the Union as well another earlier in the week Reinette dropped all mention of employing homeless. Now it is just “inmate, hand crew, and Washington Ridge” guys (different names for the same people. Sounds impressive though).

Hey, hey, hey! Everybody likes goats. One tends to not like them as much after owning one. :). Goats work good you old fuddy duddies. What a bunch of naysayers. But…..
    1) The winter grazing sends up a knee jerk flag. I tend to believe the destructive recent fires last late summer/early fall are partially to blame on late Spring rains. Allow moi to explain.
I live in a lower elevation than most readers here. It dries out sooner and my planting season starts earlier than GV or NC by at least 2and a half- 3 weeks. The trees and native brush and flowers bloom earlier at my humble abode that my friends up the hill, even those with same plants and shrubs. The rule of thumb here is to have all your weedeating done by June 1st…otherwise the grasses are too dry and the weedeating/ chainsaw work may spark a fire. June 1st here, probably July 1st in Nevada City or sllightly above. If necessary to weedeat here past June 1 (or if the vegitation dries out sooner in a dry hot Spring) it is highly recommended to do clearing only in the early morn or dusk when humidity is higher. Period.
Looking out across the back 50 right now, the green sprouts are less than a quarter inch or so high. A low nap carpet of green, if you prefer. The native grasses and weeds will be growing like gangbusters soon enough, but not for awhile. IF I can wait until the grasses form seedheats AND turn sight.y brown, then it is cut once and be done for the year. One and done. Sweet! But…..
There are some areas where I can’t wait for the area grasses to form seedheads and turn brown because the vegation is gets too darn tall and still growing like crazy. Knee high plus and going strong and green and no seedheats, not to mention weeds and the like. Those areas need to be cut twice before it drys out.
Last year with the warmer winter followed by later Spring rains, I had to cut one area 4 times, a few areas three times, and the whole shebang at least two times. And I was still burning brush a week a two beyond open season, so I had to get a burning permit (free) for the first time ever for the last piles of brush.
So, why sic the goats on the properties in winter…besides the black berry clearing and general brush thinning? Too early, IMHO. Sure, best time to dig out blackberries and poison oak is winter, but that be hand digging and pulling them out by the roots in very soft deep moist soil. Winter soil. Goats are browsers. Again, too early. That’s why the goat rangler is booked up the Spring and later. 🙂
    2) immediate flag #2: Homeless labor? Free labor? Labor in exchange for housing or something? What if someone gets hurt? Got workmans comp for that? Volunteers are one thing, liability is quite another.

How does that jive with him being the master of the “Art of the Deal” as he likes to brag about himself? With massive debt in both of his years as President looks like the Country may be next. My goodness, are there some real crap for brains posting here or what? Let’s see now. Trump has had about 500 businesses and about 2,000 partnerships over the years. A 3% fail rate would have most business operators, investors, business advisors, entrepreneurs, and experts falling on the ground and worshipping him as the Midas Man, the Miracle Worker, the Trumpster who laid the Golden Egg.
You sad sacs have never run a bunch of successful businesses, obviously. What, did you go to the Steve’s School of failures or did you join forces with A.P.P.L.E. and run a Nevada City business into the ground…or spend your lives working for non-profits, singing for tips, or suck off the teat of the public sector where results are optional? Or do you run around begging for donations and apply for grants to keep the lights on?
So, I have 20 seconds to spare. That should be more than enough time to tell me all you losers know about running a few hundred successful enterprises. Or, just ten to help you out. I am all ears. Tic toc, tic toc.

Hmm. We mustn’t let perjury go unpunished. It will set a bad precedent.
“No charges have been filed either against lawyer Michael Avenatti and his client Julie Swetnick, even though Grassley referred both individuals to the DOJ and FBI for investigation of potential violations of 18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 1001, and 1505, for making materially false statements to the Judiciary Committee. In his referral, Grassley laid out a solid case for criminal prosecution against the duo, who paraded an incredible tale of Kavanaugh’s supposed involvement in a high school gang-rape clique. Yet no charges have been filed.
Although the Democrats’ ploy to destroy Kavanaugh with last-minute allegations of sexual misconduct failed to derail his ascent to the Supreme Court, the precedent set should perjury go unanswered cannot be overstated. From his fiery performance during confirmation hearings, Graham seemed to understand the significance of allowing character assassination to do in a Supreme Court nomination—not merely at the political level, but at the personal levels as well.
But now that Graham holds the gavel, will he act? Will he demand answers from the DOJ and FBI on the criminal referrals? And will he refer Ford and McLean for investigation? If he doesn’t, he will be legitimizing one of the most despicable political ploys in recent memory.

2 weeks and 6 days to go –
Contrary to the hyperventilating from partisan Democrats and media pundits pretending to be legal experts, these emergencies are common, and can last decades. Presidents have declared 58 emergencies since 1979, and 31 of those 58 are still in effect today. The first such emergency, which President Jimmy Carter declared in 1979 against Iran-sponsored terrorism, is still in effect 40 years later.
Congress has passed 136 statutory provisions pertaining to presidential emergency powers over the years, delegating significant authority to the president when he declares an emergency. Congress’s research arm notes that in certain types of emergencies, these powers include restricting travel, seizing commodities or property, and regulating businesses.
Not only that, but Congress specifically amended the Posse Comitatus Act – the law that prevents U.S. military troops from operating on U.S. soil, found at 18 U.S.C. § 1385 – in the 2007 National Defense Authorization Act to allow U.S. troops to function domestically under certain circumstances. One of those circumstances is to enforce federal law. Another is that the defense secretary can deploy troops to stop illegal aliens from crossing the U.S. border if the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requests military assistance.
Once President Trump declares an emergency, under 33 U.S.C. § 2293(a) the secretary of defense:
without regard to any other provision of law, may … apply the resources of the Department of the Army’s civil works program, including funds, personnel, and equipment, to construct or assist in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of authorized civil works, military construction, and civil defense projects that are essential to the national defense.

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” author and columnist Ann Coulter argued that the way to “get” President Trump is the fact that “he promised” a wall “for 18 months and he lied about it.”
Coulter said, “You want to get Trump? I’m telling you how to get Trump. He promised something for 18 months and he lied about it. That’s how you get Trump. It’s not this Russia nonsense.”

I will give BoobieC one thing though. The Constitution does not give an individual a right to bankruptcy like a right in the Bill of Rights. It does say the Feds will make laws to create equality in the states about it. Just like the Constitution does in making any laws. So I am correct again and BoobieC is almost correct. From the Constitution.
“The answer is no, there is no individual Constitutional right to file a Bankruptcy case or receive a discharge of debt. … Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4 of the United States Constitution provides: The Congress shall have Power To…establish…uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States…”
