[So, does a president's responsibility to keep the nation secure, in this case via increasing border security (aka reducing border porosity), constitute a sufficiently important issue to warrant standing firm on his request for a minimal amount of funding ($5B or less) to increase that security and plug our very porous border, which the assaulting migrants are now pouring through at historically high rates?  gjr]

To the federal budget, 5 (laughingly called) big ones amounts to less than a rounding error. They just don’t want to stop the influx of Dem voters.
We’ll spend far and away beyond that much for social spending on these poor worthies. Not to mention the millions we spend to prosecute (and defend- we are racist don’t ja know) the low-life that flow unhindered into our land.
As long as the victims are nobodies from nowhere, the elites are content to sit behind their own private wall with their own guards (often on the public dime) who tut tut the lessors that suffer at the hands of imported thugs.
When the Dem and wealthy elites see their own start to fall to the illegal imports then we will see a quite an urgent and sudden change in their tone. The bright and white Nevada County remains largely aloof of such grubyness.
The folks that live on the border have such a different tale to tell, but that would involve an ‘inclusive’ point of view belying the left wing cant of wanting to listen to ‘everyone’s stories’. Some stories, it seems, are rather best left untold.

I think I’ll have to disagree with that.
They’ll simply move to whiteopias within the places like California or simply go to the nicer western states. At least the quality of coffee shops will improve in those towns as they are blessed with the benefits of ex-Blue Staters.
DIVERSITY! can simply be run via remote control from their new homes. Just imagine the playing pieces they’ll get when Africa hits 2.4 billion with a ‘b’ potential American and EU citizens.
In the meantime, rather than wasting $5B on evil Orange Hitler borders, we’ll just drop $70B-$100B on the Fresno Flyer as it gets built out. In addition the additional train stations can serve as rec centers for junkies.

OTOH, I can definitely see middle and upper middle class people bailing. They can continue doing The Lord’s Work from Scottsdale. The retirement communities in the western US will fill up with this era’s busybody old white ladies, the most coddled humans in the history of the planet, waving signs in intersections about all the ‘rights’ they have lost. If you would kindly have stood at the border you would have seen the middle and upper middle class fleeing long, long ago.
We’re talking the elites. The Hollywood leftistas. The ones that have enough money to so far stave off the problem. Newport Beach and Bel Air are not in any sense of the word ‘middle class’. The ones that glorify illegal immigration, once they and theirs are being victimized on a regular basis, there’ll be a change in the ‘deeply held beliefs’ we hear so much about.

    No one!? –
According to Reason, NJSP Sgt. Jeff Flynn said “they have received ‘zero’” magazines as a result of the ban.
On December 15, 2018, former NYC police commissioner Bernard Kerik blasted the magazine ban because it also applies to off-duty police officers, too. In other words, off-duty officers cannot legally use magazines holding more than 10 rounds while off the clock.
Kerik said, “NJ Governor @GovMurphy is endangering the life of every off duty NJ cop! Gang bangers, drug thugs and really bad guys don’t give a damn about magazine capacity… So he takes the good guy’s ammunition, and the bad guys are loaded for bear!”

    re: Those magazine laws.
Probably the stupidest bit of anti-gun legislation I’ve run into (aside from maybe the rules on suppressors). I wonder how they’ll deal with pump action rifles that use AR-15 magazines.
Everybody knows where the real statistical danger is from firearms, stolen 9mm handguns owned by people who tend to live in the same part of town. It would be amusing to see the uproar if you wrote a law that actually accomplished something, maybe we could get an AI judge to do this in a few years.
re: ScottO and the Blue Elite.
I doubt they’ll ever change their minds, it isn’t like people typically do that in any case. If the California beach turns into a favela, they’ll just go to the other house in Jackson Hole and keep on keepin’ on.

Have you seen parts of SoCal? They’re already there. I’ve strolled through favela in Mexico. That isn’t the problem. It’s when a coupla bad dudes lay a pistola upside your head and head out with your kids. The cops just shrug and put their palms up. Suddenly border security will mean something to the elites. Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Vail – it will happen eventually unless we get serious. I knew a guy at work who grew up in Mexico – very middle class. Told me about a beach south of Puerto Vallarta where it was very safe with no violence. Less than a year later the mayor’s head was stuck on a post. It’s not so much where you are as much as what actually happens to you or your family.

Well there is one thing I agree with Trump about and that’s the lies that led us into the war in Iraq. I went and saw “Vice” last night and it really told the story as to how we were duped into the war in Iraq by oil interests that Cheney was beholden to. Here’s Trump blasting Bush and his administration for the illegal war that we’re still paying for.
The “she” referred to is Nancy Pelosi
“I was surprised that she didn’t do more in terms of Bush and going after Bush. It was almost — it just seemed like she was going to really look to impeach Bush and get him out of office, which, personally, I think would have been a wonderful thing.”
    Blitzer: “Impeaching him?”
Trump: “Absolutely, for the war, for the war.”
Blitzer: “Because of the conduct of the war.””Trump: “Well, he lied. He got us into the war with lies. And, I mean, look at the trouble Bill Clinton got into with something that was totally unimportant. And they tried to impeach him, which was nonsense. And, yet, Bush got us into this horrible war with lies, by lying, by saying they had weapons of mass destruction, by saying all sorts of things that turned out not to be true.”

Changing gears, interesting piece. I thought of Bill Krystal, our beloved Bobbie, Stevie, and Brennan, among a host of media personalities
Why do (most) right wing intellectuals hate Trump?
“So anti-capitalist intellectuals are “resentful” when they are not society’s top dogs because school has taught them “they are the most valuable people, the ones with the highest merit, and that society should reward people in accordance with their value and merit. But a capitalist society does not satisfy the principle of distribution ‘to each according to his merit or value.’” Rather, it rewards those who best satisfy “the perceived market-expressed demands of others.” The anti-capitalist intellectual compares himself to wildly successful entrepreneurs and bristles with anger at a system that seems to “bait and switch” the metric of success.
Similarly, the anti-Trump right-wing intellectual bristles at a political system that does not “appropriately” value their “expertise” and “superior” knowledge and which, consequently, elevates a “buffoon” like Trump to the presidency—and on the shoulders of millions of those “deplorables,” no less. Anti-Trump right-wing intellectuals traffic in information, the gold standard in today’s world, something upon which we are ever-more reliant. Yet, in this arena, the American electorate defied them and their harebrained “proposals,” offered coercively, not through persuasion. Brazenly so. Thus, they resent the man who smashed their pretensions of politics-as-white-paper-drafting-session and roundly repudiated their perceived “right to rule.”
    No wonder they hate him!”

Saying You’re Against Fascists Doesn’t Excuse Acting Like One
Money quote: This is part of the brilliance of Antifa. Unlike most fringe political groups, Antifa is not named for something.” Hmmm. Muskegon Resist!
Communists and fascists of the 1920s and 1930s were unified by one thing above all else: their willingness to use political violence to achieve political goals. Mussolini, like Lenin, had no qualms about using violence in his effort to “make history, not endure it” (a Marx quote Mussolini was fond of employing).
Antifa openly advocates and employs violence and intimidation. Like Mussolini’s “vanguard minorities,” they dress in black garb (though Antifa members often also cover their faces) and use intimidation and violence to prevent political opponents from assembling. These tactics include launching feces at law enforcement and using bricks, bats, chains, and knives in their street wars.
The methods are ostensibly reserved for fascists, yet so many have shown a willingness to overlook the fact that Antifa is employing fascist tactics. Antifa is given a pass because labeling the other side as “fascist” automatically makes them “good,” for they are the ones fighting against fascism. It’s a brilliant rhetorical trick. As Chris Cuomo said in defense of Antifa on a carefully-worded CNN segment in August, “fighting against hate matters.”
In a moral universe where the ends justify the means, using fascist tactics to fight fascists (or people deemed fascists) is entirely proper. The dangers of embracing the philosophy of violence, however, are severe. For as Solzhenitsyn observed, the first casualty of violence is the truth.

The year in review: The departure of girlie men. Good Riddance, finally.
“Why Jeff Flake makes my stomach turn.”
We walked into Flake’s office at meeting time, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then I asked for his endorsement. He didn’t say “Yes.” He didn’t say “No.”. He didn’t ask my positions on taxes, abortion, immigration, or anything else. He didn’t ask about my religious beliefs or my family life. He didn’t laugh in my face and tell me to get out of his office.
All of those things would have been perfectly acceptable and understandable. Instead, however, he said something I’ll never forget, and to this day it makes my stomach turn. He looked me right in the eye and said, “What did John McCain say?”
That’s who Flake is. That’s who he was, and it’s who he’ll always be. He is wholly reliant on stronger men to make his decisions for him. McCain was once that man for him. It didn’t even occur to him to say yes or no when asked for an endorsement.
Now he has turned to Democrats, who know they can use Flake to further their goal of stopping Kavanaugh, the same way they used him to try and pass the Gang of Eight amnesty bill. Flake is the 15-year-old boy who shoplifts for a street gang “because they were nice to him.”
True peace can only be found on the other side of war. Flake simply lacks the necessary equipment to fight the political battles we need. The modern left is weaponized. They are not interested in your peace gestures. The left is only interested in dominating you.
Men like Flake had their place, but that place no longer exists in modern America. Flake is made for a world of bubblegum and unicorns and campfire giggling with Democrats. That world is gone, and his efforts to live on the Fantasy Island of Civility are now kneecapping conservative causes and judges.”

Even the South is now marginal with close elections in States that were once runaways-Cruz O’Rourke for example. The Republican Party no longer exists, it is now the Party of Trump. Look what happened to California Republicans as an example.

You have a short memory Paul Emery. American politics is cruising along just like it always does. Flake and a couple of others are out and not because of Trump but by their own political selves. When your lover Obama was President he gave America the House and later the Senate for the people. I do not recall your analysis as to the democrats demise. We are a divided country and it will swing back and forth as it always does.

PaulE 1008am – A short perusal of similar analyses you have recorded here seems to coagulate into a proposition that under Trump America has already achieved a three-party political landscape. We have the Dems (assume they’re still one party), then we have your “Party of Trump”, and finally what’s left is the rump of a Republican Party. Is that the way you see it?

California is the crowning example. there is no Republican Party in California as we speak.

Maybe, maybe not. If you are talking about the Nelson Rockefeller Republicans, I certainly hope so. If you are talking about Paul Ryan, Gov. Kasich, Flake-Corker Republicans, I really, really hope so. RINO is a derogatory term. Republicans In Name Only.
Flake is one such fellow. In his home state, he was polling about 9% and did not even bother to run for re-election. Couldn’t even primary him because he is a quitter. He is very pissed off that the good voters of Arizona throughly rejected him and his wacky ideas. So much so, he ran into the arms of CNN and MSNBC for aid and comfort. Now he is blocking any appointments of federal judges to exact his revenge on his Party and his for voters not kissing his rear and falling on their knees to worship him. An insecure man like that puts being loved ahead of all else, including country, ideology, philosophy. It’s all about being loved to Flake. There is a world of difference between being loved and loving. He needs to be adorned, like a man with a guitar on stage.
Flake is from Snowflake, AZ, afterall.
I remember the DNC Convention in 68’ when Mayor Daley tear gassed the violent far Left hooligans n the streets of Chicago. The party of LBJ ceased to exist after that and the Dems ran ultra out of touch liberals like HHH and McGovern because that is who they became. And despite all the pundits and wringing of hands, the Dems remained a viable Party, full of dope smokers, long haired freakaziods, God and America haters. Burn baby Burn. Odd that McGovern later called for immediate US military intervention in Cambodia. The Party of War.
Now the Dems might nominate run a man who never registered as a Dem in his entire life….until 2016. The self proclaimed Socialist from Vermont who honeymooned inthe USSR and France. The Republicans did not run Trump. Trump ran in spite of the Republicans and their out of touch elitist Gang of Eight.
How many times do I have to hear the R’s are toast, done, put a fork in it? It was the vogue thing to write about and declare between Nov. 10th and Dec. 31th, 2008. The hated liar George W. Bush as gone, Nancy held the gavel, and the Republican Party as it existed was destined to the trash heap on history…perhaps a regional party only in the Deep South. Ok, fine.
Two years later a group of “Astro-turf” bitter clingers emerged as the Tea Party Patriots.
Now, the Dems long for Bush Republicans, ROFLMAO. The problem with the Republican Party is there are too many old Bush Party types thinking they know best still around.
Will it take decades for the R’s to rebuilt? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Burn baby burn! Don’t trust anyone over 30. Do it! Pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon:

If it is, consider how you and yours would feel if instead America would be growing stronger under Republican supermajorities, with educational scores improving, the economy growing at a sustained 3%+, regulations being sunsetted, more gimmes entering the workforce, border porosity reduced below 15K/yr, a strong military, blacks and Hispanics finally figuring out who’s been screwing them for decades, and America’s hegemon role again celebrated across the world. You progressives would absolutely freak out under such a scenario.
