[Well, does Mueller have anything on Trump and the Russians, or are he and his boys just continuing to manufacture crimes so that in the end they can point to some accomplishments, while hoping to distract all from the charter that gave rise to their commission? “It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision.”
Perhaps Ms. Oscar Cortez should read the 25th Amendment. Congress must be paid, no matter what. Perhaps Ms. Oscar should read the Constitution (or at least parts of it) considering she will soon raise her right hand and solemnly swear on her sacred honor to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
It does warm the cockles of me heart to see she is willing to forgo her first paycheck considering she cannot afford the rentals in DC. The rent is too darned high! Trump doesn’t draw a paycheck from the government and sheis following his lead.

As we can again confirm and appreciate from the above, our Left does not like even the mention of an obvious discriminant between the makers and takers. BTW, every modern society has such a population division, and not every taker is an unworthy recipient per se. The problem is where do we place the discriminant and for what purpose. The Right, correctly IMHO, has the Left placing it too generously for the simple yet effective reason that it buys votes without having to explain the totality of progressive social philosophy to the recipients.

You are so dramatic. Do takers include government military contractors selling overpriced useless goods to support wars that are created for their profits? Haliburton for exmple. Cheney is their CEO, bcomes Vice President, is instrumental is the invasion of Iraq then supports them receiving 39 billions of taxpayers money to be hired killers. Are they takers?
Here’s a look on what Cheney got out of the deal
“Cheney resigned as CEO of Halliburton on July 25, 2000. As vice president, he argued that this step removed any conflict of interest. Cheney’s net worth, estimated to be between $30 million and $100 million, is largely derived from his post at Halliburton, as well as the Cheneys’ gross income of nearly $8.82 million.”

Another wonderful example of the pony tail of ignorance. The late President Bush worked at Haliburton before they were Haliburton. “39 billions of taxpaers money to be hired killers.”
Halliburton Company is an American multinational corporation. One of the world’s largest oil field service companies, it has operations in more than 70 countries.[6] It owns hundreds of subsidiaries, affiliates, branches, brands, and divisions worldwide and employs approximately 55,000 people.
The company has dual headquarters located in Houston and in Dubai, and it remains incorporated in the United States.
Halliburton’s major business segment is the Energy Services Group (ESG). It offers a broad array of products and services to upstream oil and gas customers worldwide through fourteen product service lines: Artificial Lift, Cementing, Completion Tools, Multi-Chem, Pipeline & Process Services, Production Enhancement, Production Solutions, Baroid, Drill Bits & Services, Landmark Software & Services, Sperry Drilling, Testing & Subsea, Wireline & Perforating, and Consulting & Project Management. Halliburton’s former subsidiary, KBR, is a major construction company of refineries, oil fields, pipelines, and chemical plants. Halliburton announced on April 5, 2007 that it had sold the division and severed its corporate relationship with KBR, which had been its contracting, engineering and construction unit as a part of the company.

Those classics just keep on comin’.
As a non Bush/Cheney voter, I don’t have much of a dog in the fight, but I did look at some old HAL annual reports. Hopefully Cheney had his money in a Dow index fund since Halliburton has never increased a ton over time. In the Iraq war time frame, they were losing money (or barely squeaking even depending on your accounting principles), so being a war profiteer can’t be that hot a gig.
The war was dumb as hell, but it’s hard to get excited about Cheney’s business ties (which he left in the year 2000). It obviously was much more profitable to simply influence peddle like the Clintons.

…as a side note, the thing that strikes me as sketchy about Cheney is not that he became VP while owning some HAL, but the way in which he became CEO of Halliburton.

Hand shoots up. I can, I can name one! Patrick Fitzgerald, the Special Prosecutor who went after DICK Cheney-‘The Brain’ Karl Rove-Cheney- Rumsfeld to get Dubba U Bush the War Criminal….and reached in and got a handful of Scotter Libby in a process charge of lying to the FBI ona process charge and, of course, lying to the FBI is obstruction of Justice, right Mc Cabe ( how only lied 4 times, 3 under oath). Anyway, Fitzgerald made out like a bandit.
Hmmm. Then acting Attorney General James Comey appointed Fitzgerald, who now represents one Jamey Comey since was he fired in May, 2017. My, what a small world.
“Comey was fired in the midst of an FBI investigation into whether anyone close to the president colluded with Russian intelligence agents to influence the 2016 presidential election.”
Yep, they were trying to separate Karl the Brain Rove from dumb W and go through Cheney to get to Bush. Impeachment him. Try him for war crimes! They are all tied to Halliburton! For the shake of our democracy, stop it with the Industrial Militarized Special Prosecutor Complex!

Dems are always trying to get Republicans thrown out office by hook or crook and by any means necessary.
Karl Rove. Hmm. Now let me see. Karl Rove and Steve Bannon where separated at birth.
Now to get to Trump, Meuller must go after conservative conspiracy theorist (and 72 year old journalist) Dr. Jerome Corsi to tie Julian Assange to Roger Stone, to tie in to Steve Bannon straight to Trump. Aha. Trump knew! Trump knew where Hillary’s e-mails were in advance and he colluded with Russia who colluded Assange to leak Hillary’s e-mails to outright steal a Presidential Election. Illegimate! Illegimate! String Trump up on the nearest tree. A threat to our democracy!

So George, Cheney leaves his post as head of Halliburton, becomes Vice President and promotes the war in Iraq that his ex company profits exploits to the tune of 39 Billion, yes that’s Billion dollars paid by the taxpayers or added to the national debt.Just a co-incidence right? As you recall Cheney was one of the inventors of the bogus reasons for the war in Iraq.
So is Halliburton and Cheney a makers or a takers George?

“So is Halliburton and Cheney a makers or a takers George?”
I’d say that Halliburton is something of a maker, and Cheney is a taker. Quickly ramping up a logistics operation is always going to be wasteful, especially in a place that runs on graft. Iraq represented a bit over a quarter of Halliburton sales in the era under question.
The thing is, he mostly took from Halliburton. As I remember,he was brought in as a rainmaker (with no experience running a company) and did an average-at-best job.
A quick googling tells me that he sold the majority of his stock in 2000 and then sold most of what remained in 2005….and gave it to a medical organization that he founded. I’m still hunting for a full list of the transactions rather than sleazing out with ‘news’ sites.
Dunno why he had a heart transplant, I figure he kept it in a jar on his desk.

That’s a thing I was wondering. It’s not an answer I’ve run into yet. A secondary question is to answer who should have run a logistics operation if not HAL.
As I mentioned before, the sketchier thing was leaving government and starting to run a major company while having no experience in that business or large businesses generally. It certainly isn’t a new phenomena though and exists at all levels, from flag officers moving to an office at Lockheed-Martin to county supervisors moving to non-profits.

To date, all I’ve found are pre 9/11 options sales, and that big chunk of options which was sold and given to charity.

The only objection I raise is the punch drunk one’s constant reference or insinuation to 38 billion and profit as if Halliburton profited the 38 billion…. or is it 39 billion? Gross revenue (sales) does not equate to net profit, usually not even close.
Iraq was a mess after we gave them a taste of good ole Yankee know how. Their banking system was destroyed and we literally had trucks loaded with cash driving round passing it out. Lots of room from waste, fraud and abuse.

“One of the few documents made public in the case was released on Dec. 18, when the corporation lost its appeal of a lower court ruling requiring their compliance with the subpoena.
The corporation argued it was immune to U.S. subpoenas under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, since their firm is owned by a foreign government. They also sought relief under a federal rule allowing courts to suppress subpoenas if compliance would be “unreasonable or oppressive.” In this instance, the company argued their compliance with the subpoena would violate the domestic law of their home country.”
It’s Putin.. Right Paul? Trump must have made him a promise that he broke…. Right?

It was a fake war Walt because there was no reason for it. Terrible tragedy to the Americans and folks of Iraq that died as a result of it.
