    Has Audrey Denney given her congratulatory call to LaMalfa?
    Somebody claiming to be named “Audrey” wrote on the blog that shall not be named, “If you don’t vote you have no right to live in our democracy!”.
    How is this wrong? Let me count the ways… people who don’t have the right to vote, can’t, or at least, shouldn’t. If you aren’t at least 18 years old, for example, or not a citizen of the country, or a resident of the state or county or city.
    No right to live in “our democracy”?
    Then there’s the fairly obvious… we don’t have a democracy, we have a Republic, if we can keep it. And everyone, save a few sitting in a dismal timeout in places like Sing-sing waiting for the appointed time, has a right to live.

    According to fivethirtyeight, for Denney to beat LaMalfa, it would likely have to be a tsunami… Dems taking eighty seats away from GOP orificeholders. Far down the tail of a Gaussian distribution, eyeballing, a three sigma event.
    But don’t let the mathematics sway your enthusiasm, Keach. Revel in your precinct results if you like them better than the district results.

    The reason for the relative weakness of the GOP in California, and the Libertarian Party for that matter, is the role of public employee unions in funneling public cash into Democratic Party campaigns. Thank Jerry Brown v.1 for that.
    And it’s fun to rack up a massive debt to spend like a drunken sailor on shore leave.
    Now, the state Dems are walking the plank for Global Warming, betting the state on the catastrophe foreseen by their Chicken Littles in Sacramento… just in time for (as is widely predicted) a solar minimum that many think will result in a few decades of low temperatures.
    It’s a lot like the election, one needs to have patience, political parties crash on their own schedule. Ommmmm.

    For what it’s worth Nate Silver predicts District One 53-47% LaMalfa Last election La Malfa won in double digits by over 15% as I recall. The Trump Slump seems to be evident in District 1. We’ll see if Nates numbers hold up.

    So how will this impact turnouts?

If I get the message from our proto-socialist (‘you didn’t start that business!’), then all the businesses built with invested capital don’t count, since anyone could have done it. That, of course, is part and parcel of the Obama/Warren theory of enterprise, hence a bigger government is really needed to handle all those sectors of our economy. (BTW, whatever Ivanka got from dad was either equity capital or a loan, else Ivanka would have had an enormous tax bill.)

    In Trump’s case, she has even managed to induce Hatch Act violations from White House staffers so eager to enable her profiteering that they promote her products on cable news shows, as Kellyanne Conway did on national television last year. The executive office has presented numerous new opportunities for Trump to meet with potential new business partners, get trademarks approved in other countries and pursue new potential avenues of financing.
    So how did Trump lose a game that was so heavily rigged in her favor?
    The simplest and most obvious explanation for any business failure would be that the product is bad, that the business failed because the clothes are terrible, and no one wants to buy them. But what does terrible mean in that context? Is the quality low? Is the aesthetic unappealing? Is the brand ill-defined?
