[Apologies for the last sandbox getting a little rancid there. We just returned from travel and I let things get away from me. Well, now with all the additional stuff that's happened, there is a lot of catching up to do. This morning NPR did a couple of hit pieces on President Trump, nimbly circling their innuendo wagons to blame him and the Republicans for all the current tragedies – happened and impending – while wondering why the other side doesn't stop "their hateful rhetoric" that is causing all this. Of course, constantly pointing this out, their hands somehow remain clean. gjr]

Trump said the tickets were $1800 each! I watched Gillum debate Santis a week ago. He definitely is glib and has great comebacks. But he has never had a job other than a government.

On to Pittsburg. Ironically, two days before the shooting, the Pittsburg Public School Board banned having cops wearing guns on campus. Hmmm. Only 4 police officers were wounded trying to stop the Tree of Life Synagogue shooter.
The Left hates the answer to the problem of stopping mass slayings. The answer is armed folks. We have armed guards and security at every important place and protecting every important person and venue. But, no. The Left wants only the government to have guns to protect us little people. 4 wounded cops might have been uninjured and more lives saved it the shooter was met with lethal force earlier….before the cops arrived.

‘’’It was unclear what specific action his order would pursue, and Trump gave no other details.
Trump has ratcheted up his hard-line immigration stance one week before U.S. congressional elections, as the country grapples with race and national identity amid bursts of violence, including a series of bombs sent to top Democrats and other Trump critics as well as the deadliest attack on a synagogue in U.S. history.
Seeking to end so-called birthright citizenship outlined in the 14th Amendment would take direct aim at the Constitution and likely prompt immediately legal challenges and potential opposition in Congress.
Changing an amendment in the Constitution would require the support of two-thirds of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate and the backing of three-fourths of U.S. state legislatures at a constitutional convention.
But Trump said he has talked to his legal counsel and was advised he could enact the change on his own, contrary to the view of many constitutional experts.’’’

Birthright citizenship? Glad to see Trump raise the issue. The 14th Amendment was clearly written for the children of slaves . It barred birthright citizenship for children born here to foreign ambassadors and foreign diplomats serving their countries at posts here in the USA.
The 14th Amendment has never been interpreted by SCOTUS, nor has much legislation ever has been written concerning its application. It’s just a matter of somebody suing and having SCOTUS look at the intent and meaning.
Sweden, France, most all of Europe and a vast majority of the nation’s of the globe do not recognize birthright citizenship by foreigners, not to mention birthright citizenship of illegal aliens. Canada does, one of 34 countries in the world that have dual citizenship.
This is a smart issue for Trump to bring up. Tourist “birth hotels” have been an issue with Russians and Chinese flying in in LA, dropping a kid, and leaving after birth. Hospitals along are border are going broke as hordes of illegals cross over, pop out a child, paying zero money, then retreat back to Mexico…or staying. A child with dual citizenship can receive aid, lower college tuitions, and at 21 (18 in Canada), can sponsor their parents for a permit residency green card. A retirement benefit for the parents. A meal ticket and entry ticket.
The big issue is these vacation baby hotels for Chinese and Russians. While they may not be illegal, it is illegal to lie on a visa. Pregnant women are not allowed entry. Imagine thousands of Russians visiting here, giving birth to little Ivan’s, then fly back home. The baby becomes a US citizen and 18 years later thousands of Russians can vote in our elections, thus infererring and influencing our elections. Collusion! A Chinese child with dual citizenship and taken back to China after being popped out on the delivery table is eligible for private (non public ) schools in China, where as a millions of Chinese children without dual citizenship are not eligible, not to mention paying cheaper titution at UC Berekely than a forgeiner would pay.
Interesting issue. No amendment needed. Just an interpretation by SCOTUS. Interesting, but talking about it is “Hate Speech!”
“Consequently, if the president actually issues an executive order changing the birthright-citizenship policy, I doubt the sun will set before an injunction is issued. I am in favor of changing the current understanding of birthright citizenship, but I believe such a change must be done by statute to have any hope of surviving court-scrutiny . . . and even then, I give it less than a 50-50 chance.”

Opps, maybe pregnant foreign women are not barred from the US. However, lying on a visa is against our laws and can bar one entry for life.
“Birth tourism is the neighborhood’s incognito economic engine — dozens of pregnant Chinese women visit these shopping centers each day, walking from nearby maternity facilities or transported by cars the hotel operators provide. There’s OshKosh B’gosh, Babies R Us, Ibiya Family, mattress and crib stores, doctors, dentists and Chinese banks.
Life in America tempts from the strip malls. Among the baby stores, there are home loans on offer, car rentals to go see the homes, real estate agents to guide shoppers and immigration attorneys to handle paperwork.
Many mothers, like Tracy, consider staying. Her reasons have more to do with China’s flaws than U.S. freedoms.
In Shanghai, she says, the buildings are tall and modern, but the rent is high. The skyline is beautiful, but the air isn’t clean and the food isn’t safe. The airport is architecturally impressive but inconvenient. The people speak her language, but they are always judging and comparing, evaluating the clothes she wears, the home and neighborhood she lives in, the school her children will attend. A life in America is a break from all of that.
“Here people are not so competitive, trying to wear better clothes and use better things,” Tracy said. “I don’t even have to wear makeup.”

Good heavens George. Do you honestly expect members of the Blue Mob to give you their theories on just what immigration law should be and how it should be enforced?
It’s like asking for details on an ideal national healthcare system, you’ll simply get uninformed handwaving about ‘HOW IT IS IN DENMARK!’. Ideal gun laws consist of ‘COMMON SENSE!’ nonsense with no ideas that have any sense of technology or history. Abortion law arguments become post-menopause harridans screeching about their bodies with no thought given towards termination at 1 month or 8.5 months.
The Blue Mob is a mob, nothing more. It has an emotional sense of what it needs, but in the end it’s just good for burning things.

So, just exactly what should the immigration laws be? How many people should be allowed to immigrate to the US every year and how should they be picked? Should there be a limit at all?
It’s hard to feel much outrage over a President who slightly ramps up enforcement of existing law, evidently you want new law.

Any mention of enforcing immigration law as written gets the predictable never disappointing knee jerk reaction from the Left. More consistent than the law of gravity.
While a few may utter they are not for open borders, they promote open borders unabashedly…without calling it open borders. Vehemently opposed to ending the migration lottery, chain migration, vetting, or anything that comprises admission to the US on meritorious considerations. Akin to merely mentioning voter fraud. The knee jerk emotional reaction to voter ID is somehow an assualt on life, liberty, and the rule of law. Must not go there, you will not go there, racist!
I see the bigger issue (Divide?) as the Right and Libertarians view conservatism as a philosophy while the Left (liberals) views progressivism as an ideology. Philosophy vs ideology is the crux of the problem here in spouting one’s worldview.
I have searched and searched in vain for a comment written by a Australian born Hong Kong journalist after Obama’s trip to Australia. Obama publicly dissed the PM on stage and in a speech… a speech to a school where the Australian government in advance strongly urged Obama to refrain to going to and not on the internary. After much handwringing by the journalists as why Obama would treat America’s best alley in the world with so much contempt, the journalist said it best:
To paraphrase, “If you disagree with Obama on politics, he is ok with that. If you disagree with Obama on ideology, he will hate you.”
We seem to disagree with the Left on ideology and they automatically hate us.
Bottomline: Is America an idea or an ideal (if you prefer) , or is America a nation?

Boardman. For one hundred years after the 14th Amendment was passed, not one person was granted birthright citizenship. One hundred years later, birthright citizenship suddenly was granted to the offspring of illegal aliens and tourists.
Glad that Trump has started a conversation on this issue. Never hurts to discuss it.
Bottomline: It does not matter what you, I, or TV pundits and panels think, The only opinion that matters what SCOTUS says. It would be nice to see Congress do it’s Constitutional mandates and pass laws instead of relinquishing it’s powers to the Executive Branch….something that has been going on for far too long.

re GeorgeB 1054am – I want to point out that the leftist in these and other outlets dealing in such questions never address the whole of any issue, only the part (many times misinterpreted) that bolsters the supportive narrative of their collectivist ideology. To use the 14th to justify anchor babies without addressing the original intent (as pointed out by several commenters above) is to enter into a fraudulent debate on the matter, either through ignorance (which I doubt in Mr Boardman’s case) or through willful subterfuge seeking to influence the lightly read.

Republican Senate candidate Martha McSally (R-AZ) complained in a recent interview that she is getting her “ass kicked” because she voted to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care reform law. Latest polls show her trailing by 6 in the Arizona Senate Race.
“McSally made the admission during a recent interview with conservative radio host Sean Hannity,
“Well, Sean, I did vote to repeal and replace Obamacare on that House bill — I’m getting my ass kicked for it right now because it’s being misconstrued by the Democrats,” she said. “They’re trying to, you know, invoke fear in people who have family members or loved ones with pre-existing conditions.”

If you were a responsible “ concert promoter” you wouldn’t have booked mimes in the first place!
Regardless Punch it was clearly whining to the sheriff!
…..and you clearly thought she was a “shoe in” to win since you felt compelled to do your “Hillary is going to win” touchdown dance for Gregory!

Honestly, I don’t know how well polls track actual results.
The interesting thing is that, in Arizona, a bonafide combat veteran can be basically heads-up with a fairly radical left-wing politician.
It isn’t like the existing people saw the light and became socialists. Population replacement is a real thing. I can see the same thing happening in Texas with the influx of Californians and Mexican nationals.
The take-away is that if you want a government of your liking, you need to be careful about your borders.
BTW: What do you think immigration law should be? Be careful in answering, you don’t want the rest of KVMR torching your car.

“Arizona is the meth lab of democracy” ….not a bad line but hardly the way to endear yourself to the electorate!
