[Good-hearted Darrell Berkheimer, one of our Union’s several progressive columnists, is truly an exemplar of ideological low hanging fruit. His most recent 1sep18 column is standard leftwing pap and a collection of its staple feel-good talking points, with no consideration of how any of such socialist goals can be achieved, either with living breathing human beings or available monies. His solution for the latter is to defund the military, which to him and his is the ever-present and unnecessary burden that maintains an America which keeps globalism at bay. If it weren’t for his effect on the even less-well-read of our community, Mr Berkheimer’s ignorance of history and economics could be gently dismissed as the simple outpourings of a concerned and kindly old gentleman. gjr]

M at 4:55 – You need to read the article.
“There is little doubt that the government under Trump has launched an aggressive assault on regulations governing everything from climate change to financial transactions, and policies restricting new ones are likely to have long-term impacts on government.”
I don’t really care what the agreed on total is – Trump is trying to get rid of needless regs (as promised) as opposed to Hillary who promised lots and lots of new regs. His dismantling of ‘greenhouse’ regs are doing a lot for our economy. You lefties can’t have it both ways. Trump is constantly slammed by the left for all of his ‘deregulation’ and now you want to try to say it isn’t true. So – who’s lying?
M’s post at 12:25 is hilarious. M didn’t even read the full article. There is nothing in it to substantiate a claim that Trump knowingly lied about anything. In fact, they admit he said things that were true.
M – you need to read the whole article, not just the headline.

More fake news from the WSJ.
https://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2018/09/03/parents-jobs-increasingly-shape-how-far-kids-get-in-life/
This article is a sad joke. The parents’ jobs may be a harbinger or a predictor, but not a ‘shaper’. There was no indication that the parents’ jobs forced any of the offspring into any type of career track. One can say that kids are more comfortable following their parents type of work, but a lot of young people that want a better future are free to better themselves if they want.
Murray did a lot of research into this field and found that it was true that kids often follow their parents’ line of work simply because it’s human nature to go into a line of work that was acceptable and comfortable while they were growing up. If your father made buggy whips and that’s what you thought was a great future for you in 1910 then you probably didn’t do too well in life. Humans evolved because we stayed ahead of the curve. That’s how we got here. If you want a different kind of system you’d better get ready for this:

Once again Trump tries to cuddle up to one of his backers by discrediting Sessions and Justice Department for doing their job. This time its California Congressman Duncan Hunter. Here’s details of the indictment last week.
“The indictment makes it clear that the Hunters were in dire financial straits and could not have supported their lifestyle without the use of those campaign funds.
The Hunters overdrew their personal bank accounts more 1,100 times in a seven-year period, according to the indictment from the US Attorney’s Office in San Diego, resulting in $37,761 in “overdraft” and “insufficient funds” bank fees.
“By virtue of these delinquencies — as well as notifications of outstanding debts and overdue payments from their children’s school, their family dentist, and other creditors — the Hunters knew that many of their desired purchases could only be made by using campaign funds,” the indictment says”.

Interesting thing I came across today. The word “traitor”. From when Glen Beck was at CNN and making fun of the 9/11 Truthers.
“Glenn: I was getting hate from all kinds of people. It was amazing. I had gone on the air shortly before, maybe three months before this tour, and I had talked about the 9/11 truthers. I said I think this is nuts. I think this is nuts. Well, at the time, at least, those guys were, at least in New York, they were really dangerous. A video came out about me. I’ll never forget, it was slowed down, distorted, and had driving hard rock music behind it. The voice, a disembodied female voice, said, “All traitors must be executed. All traitors must be executed.” And then the word traitor came on my face.
So, security went crazy, and I’m going out to do this book tour. I’m on the bus, and it was the first time I had to wear a bulletproof vest. I put on the bulletproof vest, and I have to go out into these crowds, shake hands, and do my thing, and we don’t know who’s in the crowd.
The second one, a guy comes up, and we had security like nobody’s business. A guy comes up, and he has his hands in his pockets. My security is all up. We all were focused on just that. He comes up, and he says hey. I try to screw my courage, and I’m like okay, there’s nothing wrong here. I put my hand out, and I said, “Merry Christmas.” He said, “Merry Christmas. All traitors must be executed,” empty hand. Well, he was on the floor by the time he had his hand here.
I went back into the bus, and I thought I don’t know if I can do this. I really don’t know. This was when I was still at CNN.”

Of course he’s innocent till proven guilty but the indictment is public information and Trump would prefer to block it from coming out till a more convenient time for him. That’s politics interfering wit the legal process. Do you believe the indictment should have been delayed till after the election?

PaulE 1003am – I have no idea why we have such problems communicating in these comment streams. My 945am was NOT contending the existence of sufficient evidence to indict, only how much of it existed when. To spell it out for you, Trump’s tweet demonstrated that he was pissed off at the timing of the indictment, and therefore questioned when did sufficient evidence come in hand to do that. The clear implication being that the DoJ could have sat on such sufficient evidence for release at a politically most unpropitious moment for the Republicans. And that evidence could have been in the bowels of the DoJ, even unbeknownst to Sessions, because the investigation was started and carried out by lower level Obama-era leftist lawyers. It could have been they who timed presenting the evidence to Sessions, who then felt he had no choice but go public with it. Whether Sessions legally could or would delay the announcement is yet another matter which is clearly a factor in this contention. It’s a bit complicated, but not too much so. I think you can connect all these plausible dots to understand Trump’s ire. Capice?
RobertC 1049am – Yeah, that’s pretty bad stuff reflecting on the president. And important enough not to take without some evidence of these things having been said. Unless these are quotes you imagine could have been said about Trump, it’s good to throw in a link or two to share with us how you became convinced of all this.

Paul, if indictments were convictions, every ham sandwich would be guilty as charged and we’d save a lot of time and money. Off with their heads! More mustard, please.
The indictment is 47 pages long and the chances Paul Emery even read (let alone understood!) every paragraph is zero.
Paul, evidence isn’t in the indictment, it is only alluded to. It’s in a trial that evidence is produced and its relevance is argued. A jury sorts it all out and gives a thumbs up or down, but in Hunter’s case, that won’t be until after the election, hence the complaint by Trump which may or may not hold up… if Hunter is very , very guilty there’d be hell to pay when and if that came out of the court hearing.
