‘Progressive movement jumping into abyss’ by Manny Montes appeared in the 23jun18 Union, opening with the hopeful salvo –
An extraordinary thing is happening right before our eyes. The implosion of the progressive movement, and its complicit ministry of propaganda, our news media, are jumping head first into the abyss, oblivious to the progressive ideological dangers of their descent. The incipient tyrant in every progressive is now manifest for all to see. The Obama administration blatantly politicized our government's intelligence and law-enforcement apparatus. The tyrant plays by his own rules. Power is the objective. Principles, ethics and constitutional restraints mean not a whit to the tyrant.
The remainder of the piece presented a cogent, clear, and concise summary of the Left’s iniquities, under Obama’s watch and Hillary’s candidacy, revealed over the last six years or so. All of which have been much discussed in these pages and elsewhere across the land. The problem with Mr Montes’ assessment appears to come from his limited awareness of the workings of the liberal mind and their lightly read constituencies.
The Left sees none of these extra-constitutional cum criminal acts – they have been and remain totally blind to them as amply evidenced in the RR comment streams, and more prominent progressive trumpets. For them, the only atrocious aberrations in government remain Trump’s alleged “collusion with Russia” for which there is yet to be discovered one shred of evidence. And Trump’s immaterial bombasts, exaggerations, misanthropics, and fabrications have become a catalog of impeachable “lies” for them that totally overwhelm the material lies and illegal activities – including documented collusion with Russia and its third-party agents – perpetrated by Team Obama over their eight years in power.
What Mr Montes misses is that for there to open a convenient abyss into which the progressives can either jump or blunder, there has to be a sufficiently knowledgeable political mass in the nation to demand that they be held to account, through either the justice system or in the voting booth. The American electorate is now hopelessly divided into those too dumb to be informed, and those too smug who think that they need do nothing but wait for Divine Justice to strike through a parting of the clouds to “implode the progressive movement” of dastardly and seditious anti-Americans. Meanwhile, with apparent impunity, the Left continues to field platoons of political thugs to confront administration staffs, shut down public and private facilities, and block avenues of transportation – all with both tacit and vociferous approval from our already coopted and compliant Fourth Estate.
The logic, totally absent from the Left’s mindset and to which Mr Montes appeals in his arguments, is shared today by a diminishing minority – the masses neither care, let alone dare, to call the progressive perps to account. The great unwashed are continually reminded that the only evil in the land to be purged is Donald Trump, else (cue the chorus) ‘All is Well, All is Well’.
