[Here's the next batch of fresh sand. I find it interesting how the intersection of what interests me and RR's commenters goes up and down. It appears that the interests of our most voluble readers pretty much track the news cycle, often leaving unattended more fundamental and systemic events/trends that impact our lives and country. Because I have always walked a path less tread, for me this variance is noteworthy but not a consternation, since RR has always been a record of my observations and interpretations from the last great century of Man. In sum, I think of my weblog as a letter to my family and the future which, of course, includes the contents of its comment streams. gjr]

In other words @510 you couldn’t hack keeping up with the conversation so you got schooled and then you change the subject. Same old, same old from the ignorant po’ ol’ fakenewsman. KVMR must be so proud. 😉

“Sorry that’s so difficult to understand.”
Hmmm. Ok, if you are sorry, guess we have to forgive ya again. You are forgiven not for being bitchy, but simply because that is the kind of understanding folks we are. But, darn it, Popinjay, try harder to 1) get it right and 2) work on that attitude. An ancient said, “It is better to live on a rooftop alone than below with an contentious woman.” Boy, ain’t that the truth. Aunt Flo visiting?
“others call it changing the subject.”
Well, I once thought it would be a nice to move to on . Grass is greener, what’s over that mountain, all that kind of stuff. What I called change of scenery, the authorities called unlawful flight to avoid justice.

Punchy, no one is stopping you from changing the subject when you are asked for substance over fluff.
Watched Morning Joe today… boy, are those smiles turned upside down over the Justice Kennedy retirement. Elsewhere on MSLSD and its sister station, BSNBC, Chris Matthews apparently finding the concept that McConnell might run full speed ahead with a confirmation action incredible… what happened to the ‘no SCOTUS hearings in an election year’?
Sorry Charley, that Biden/Schumer rule was for Presidential election years with nominees to the high court when the opposing side held the Senate, not off year elections. The Senate had every right to tell President Obama their advice that they wouldn’t be considering a Democratic nominee until the new President was sworn in. No, Obama did not have HIS slot stolen by the GOP Senate.
Ask His Accidency, the Whig John Tyler (use a Ouija board or a seance if you do not have a direct link to the apres vie) why he had two nominees held up for nearly two years when the Whig Senate decided Tyler was no longer in the favor of his party and the Senate could wait until a new President was chosen and sworn in to fill the empty SCOTUS chairs. Ouch.
Only the President can nominate someone to the high court, but it takes the Senate to confirm the nominee… if they don’t want to, there’s no way to force them to do it, and there’s no mandate in the Constitution to give them a hearing; if there’s a will in the Senate to force the issue to the floor, there’s a way.

Boy, some are taking this SCOTUS retirement party rather hard. It’s like Deja Vu.
I have cried for people of color who face an imminent threat from emboldened racism.
I have cried for my gay friends and for LGBTQ youth whose equality is uncertain. I have cried for Latinos who are suddenly suspect and whose families may be in danger of forced divide.
For LGBTQ people, for people of color, for women, for people of non-Christian religious faiths, this retirement is terrible and Ruth Bladder Ginsberg ain’t no Spring Chicken.
I have cried with young women fearful about family planning and a lack of options. I have cried for women across this country who have spent the last several months watching a qualified woman go out for a job that went to a man with far less experience.
I cry for the kind of message this sends to young women and marginalized populations across the United States and the world.
“When you have a Supreme Court majority who targets whole populations of people, belittles women, mocks the handicapped, and scapegoats entire religions and races, the Court is no longer about legislation or economic policy. This retirement is about America and our value system.”
There are many of us who, after voicing our dismay about the travel ban have been told to “get over it,” to “stop being a sore loser.” But, for many of us, this decision wasn’t about winning or losing. It wasn’t about Sotomayor or Neil Gorsuch. For LGBTQ people, for people of color, for women, for people of non-Christian religious faiths, Masterpiece Cake wasn’t about a cake.. For us, this was about our health and safety. We cannot simply get over it.
For those who say mean things and attack me, not out of overt racism or sexism, but as an anti-socialist sentiment, who are now decreeing a “wait and see” attitude, Trump has already aligned himself with, and has appointed dangerous extremists to the Highest Court. Many Trump supporters have poo-pooed what they see as “Leftist Alarmism,” but they are failing to recognize the real fear and despondency in the communities of people who will be marginalized under a Trump administration.
My niece, Mariana, is 14 years old. She is Latina. Her parents are divorced. On her mom’s side, she is the second oldest of six; her younger siblings are half black. On the morning after the Muslim Travel Ban, she posted a picture of her and her siblings. The caption read:
“I want to apologize to the children in our nation, and especially these kids right here. I love my younger siblings with all of my heart, and I feel like our country has failed them. This generation is supposed be the generation to move forward through our country’s past, and make it the place these kids deserve, where all of them can feel welcome, no matter their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
“But, thanks to some people who took advantage of our young age, decided to set our country back, years of accomplishments wasted, because they decided to vote for a racist, homophobic, sexist, and alleged rapist like The God Emperor.. Did anyone think of how this could affect our generation, and not just their own life? Did they think of how many lives they had just changed, and practically ruined?
“Some children are feeling threatened for being themselves, and the fact that our new Supreme Court will be the cause of that is absolutely absurd. It’s time to be adults now people; we can’t do it for you. You’ve set our country back, but you’re not the one’s paying the price.”
I cry the most for the children in my life. I ache for their future. I cry because I could not protect them from this. And yet, it is because of them, their values and what they stand for, that I continue to have hope.
Cue sound track of Leonard Cohen.

Talk about being maroons that are helping the Russians and causing more diesel burning v gas!
The Sierra Club says the United States should focus on clean energy sources like wind and solar.
“We don’t need these pipelines to meet our energy needs, so it makes no sense to lock us into generations of dependence on dirty fossil fuels,” said Joan Walker, who helps lead the Sierra Club’s Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign.
The United States is the world’s biggest producer and consumer of natural gas and is on the cusp of becoming one of its top exporters.
Production in the Marcellus and Utica, the biggest shale gas formations in the United States, has ballooned to 28.9 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) from 1.5 bcfd a decade ago, according to federal energy data. One billion cubic feet is enough to fuel about 5 million U.S. homes for a day.
The industry is eyeing growing export markets by investing in facilities that can liquefy gas for shipment overseas. The United States has sent cargoes to nearly 30 countries in the past year.
Capito said it was ironic that U.S. gas is headed around the world but struggles to reach New England.
Utilities in Boston this winter had to resort to burning diesel and Russian imported LNG to supply enough electricity to consumers during a January cold spell, Capito noted.

Latest Trump lies
“It was the last thing I asked,” he told a gathering of Nevada Republicans on Saturday. “I said, ‘Do you mind, would I be able to get the remains back of all those great heroes from so many years ago?’ And he said, ‘I will do that.’ And you probably read, they have already done 200 people. Which is so great.”
On Monday, Trump told a rally audience in South Carolina: “We’re getting the remains of our great heroes back.”
The only problem: No remains have yet been returned, and it is unclear when that might happen. “We have not yet physically received them,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, but said that he is “optimistic” it would take place “in the not-too-distant future.”

Fire Alarm, fire alarm!! “Are you calling me a punk!?! Are you threatening me?!?!? I hope people will read this!” Lol. Or was that inspector Callahan saying “Make my day”?. It warmed the cockles of me heart.
Tempted to post a meme of from Apocalypse Now with Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, a fictional character, standing on the beach taking it all in and saying, “I love the smell of liberal tears in the morning.” But I won’t.

Got him all ramped up tonight. My apologies to the bord and disinterested
I am a worm.
Now that Punchy got his dander up, he will go ape flinging ‘Trump Lied’ snot at us incessantly for days. And he will wake up thinking about it and think about it I. The wee hours of the night. He lied, he lied, he lied!
Again, my apologies to the innocent. I am but a mere spiritual being having a human experience. Maybe if we grap “somebody’s” girlfriend’s kid, rip her from her mother’s arms, and lock her in a cage with pedophilles, Punchy may think that was more than being merely disrespectful. Moral equivalencies and all that stuff. Trump lied!
Human nature is a funny thing. We accentuate the flaws in others and minimize our own. With that said, TDS is a different beast. When the tax bill passes, we are are going to die!! And Trump lied!

toes, I also had it confused with Apocalypse Now!, until I went looking. You know, checking the citation before hitting enter.
Now, I’m waiting why he’s lying about me saying his use of “pubber” was “disrespectful”. That’s also over his head.
Punchy, why are you lying so much?

Here’s what you wrote Gregory
“And I know, respect and am even fond of a few folks who are registered GOP, Punch. It’s beneath you to use “pubber” to describe them. Or it should be beneath you.”
I have friends who are disabled Gregory and it should be beneath you to make jokes about shooting them and not “leading” too much when you shoot because they don’t move very fast. Now that’s really a disgusting thing to say Gregory. That’s Beneath even the low standards of the Circle of Jerks which i did not previously consider you to being a part of.
“It’s easy to shoot disabled people, Punchy, you just don’t lead them so much.”

Well, moving on. Will leave Peter Fonda behind from bench going forward. That one cut. He, like Punchy, have a thing for our First Lady. A vile thing. Most unsightly. Not classy. TDS, I reckon.
BTW, I tried re-watching Easy Rider a few years ago. First time since it hit the big screen back when. Couldn’t sit through even a 1/3 of it. Funny how things I once thought was cool, looks hokey and downright lame now. And even what little I managed to watch on my walk down memory lane, one thing popped out at me. The best actor in that flick was not Peter, not by any means. The best actor was Dennis Hopper, by far.

No, that’s what I wrote to counter your claim that I shouldn’t care what you called Republicans, and even this quote didn’t say “disrespectful”, does it, now?
Why are you lying, Punch?
