[Here's the next batch of fresh sand.  I find it interesting how the intersection of what interests me and RR's commenters goes up and down.  It appears that the interests of our most voluble readers pretty much track the news cycle, often leaving unattended more fundamental and systemic events/trends that impact our lives and country.  Because I have always walked a path less tread, for me this variance is noteworthy but not a consternation, since RR has always been a record of my observations and interpretations from the last great century of Man.  In sum, I think of my weblog as a letter to my family and the future which, of course, includes the contents of its comment streams.  gjr]

Well I could have told you that, wait I did!
It seems the Trump administration knows the law better than the Obama administration.
The Justice Department under Attorney General Jeff Sessions reversed positions of the Obama administration in four cases decided by the Supreme Court this year โ€” and won all four of them.
They included constitutional technicalities, such as whether a certain set of appointments needed Senate confirmation, and politically charged cases over cutting names from voter lists and labor unions charging dues to unwilling workers.
โ€œIn four cases, after careful review, we changed the departmentโ€™s position in order to follow the law,โ€ Mr. Sessions said Wednesday as the court closed out its term. โ€œThe favorable Supreme Court decisions in all four cases reflect that we took the proper course of action. The decisions speak for themselves.โ€
Reversals of position at the department are a big deal and set tongues wagging in legal circles.
That was the case last year when the Trump administration said it was backing an Illinois state employee who objected to being forced to pay dues to a labor union he didnโ€™t belong to, and which took stances he disagreed with.

“Well Todd I agree with you 100% on that. The “when” is serious issue for sure. Certainly not late in the pregnancy as Scenes questioned “Should it be legal for a woman to abort (without health reasons) at 8.9 months?”
Now maybe Paul can explain why ‘when’ is an issue.
    But of course he won’t.
Something to do with killing an innocent human life?
    Hmmm?

Boardman at 2:49 – We’re supposed to listen to Government Motors? Us tax payers handed them 54 BILLION dollars. Free. Gratis. Here ya Go.
Most countries would be grateful for life. Now these ungrateful bastards are setting up shop in China and are whining???
And you harken to their bitch?
    Have fun.

    I’ll give it a shot.
It seems to me that human life has varying value. You should be willing, especially with public money, to go to further medical extremes with a 25 year old than an 85 year old (or 1 month old). It isn’t just the efficacy of a medical procedure depending on age, but there’s a sort of economic value you can attach to a person.
By the same token, a clump of cells isn’t a near full term infant.
In short, all people aren’t equal from conception to death.
Thought-out abortion laws could get complicated. When does a child have legal protection and what kind? Is the child worth as much as the mother in a dire medical emergency? Is a child who is the product of a rape worth as much? Is there a murder charge if a mother miscarries after an assault? Does it matter if the assault occurs 1 day or 8.9 months after conception?
Honestly, I doubt that a Trump appointee will change abortion law in any significant way. It is, however, a beautiful opportunity to getoutthevote, raise money, wave signs, and conduct another theatre in the war to overthrow a legally elected President. A nonexistent problem concerning abortion law will get weaponized just like the non-issue over children on the border.

Bessee, now I know what the economists think. But in the words of Peter Lynch, who built the Fidelity Megellan Fund into the world’s largest mutual fund: “If economists were any good at making predictions, they’d be retired and living on their yachts…”

Here we go with Boardman and economic issues again. Yaa… I remember election night real clearly. Did you take MY advice to buy back everything you sold off at opening bell? Naaaaaa… What does a ditch digger know? My holdings gained by almost 28%.. In one year.
Yours? So Find something to disparage that great gain.
You have been on the wrong side of the economic argument from the start. I have yet to see any huge backfire of what Trump has done on the economically. He’s only improved it.

    Go commies go!
The demographic fault lines of the Democratic Party are once again on display. This time, their donor class worries as intersectionality, in all of its aggrieved glory, occupies the national stage.
Let us be clear that Ocasio-Cortez is an unvarnished leftist. Think of Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders, just younger and ungrizzled, and she does not bother to hide it. Socialism is her badge of honor. When Ocasio-Cortez claims that Hamas is simply a Palestinian analog to the Ferguson protests, take her conviction and sincerity as givens. You can also place a good bet that come 2020, Ocasio-Cortez will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention.

    And some money guys are.
I notice that Krugman is not. Bernie Sanders, the socialist, is doing quite well. How many homes does he own? And where does he get his money from? He knows when to shut his mouth about the DNC corruption.
Good boy – here’s your money.

    Todd @753 –
The Atlanta Fed is projecting it going to 4.8%. Remember we had 350 billion repatriated in the first quarter and we are getting 1.2 trillion injected into the broader economy by the end of the year. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hey the po’ ol’ fakenewsman might be beating CNNs ratings at this rate.
But way, way, way down in 13th place, below even the Food Network, sits far-left CNN at number 13 and an average of just 914,000 viewers โ€” which is about a third of Foxโ€™s numbers.
CNNโ€™s sister network, HLN, is a total failure, ranking at 52 with an average if just 262,000 primetime viewers and 227,000 total day viewers.
In worse news, HLN is only doing as well as it is because of decade-old Forensic Files reruns.

Oh Scott, every single one of those big bleeding hearts who get into that help the po folk line of work all come out on the other side shot in the ass with diamonds. Community organizers, union bosses, impoverished men of the clothe Rev. Jesse and Rev. Al and the very very Rev Wright and more of that crowd end up in the big house on the hill they spent their careers deriding and shaking down.
A: 3 houses. Got himself a little private plane now to buzz the skies to do the altruistic plane thing, pun intended.

Wait a cotton picking moment. The Loopy Lefties told us that 1-2% was the new normal, get used to it. Somebody better tell Trump to fail in line and follow Obama and Krugmanโ€™s lead.
Wait a cotton picking moment. The Loopy Lefties told us in 2009 that the GDP would be 4%, then 5-6%, then higher in the outlying years….and that would pay for Obamacare. Wonโ€™t cost the taxpayers one thin dime. No one thin dime, not one tenth of a dollar. I am sooooo confused. Wish they would make up their minds. Ah, nevermind…they never had one, never will. Oh, I get it now. They meant 4-5% if and when the Leftists got the boot.
