Across this land we are debating the wrong thing.  There is no contention about separating kids from parents.  No one want to do that gratuitously.  But as a society, we do it when we must.  And we do it daily with American kids by the thousands when their parents are jailed or otherwise detained through legal proceedings.  We have done that for decades and today we keep hundreds of thousands of American kids in foster care separate from their parents.  But just focusing on the kids is not my point here.

America’s Left has found a new casus belli to attack the foundations of our republic.  Their goal, as stated here many times, is nothing less than the abrogation of America’s sovereignty as a nation-state (cf. Agenda21).  Let me start with some fundamental tenets of governance that I assign to Rebane Doctrine (continuing to collect these under this label and efficiently refer to them drives the local Left nuts; another benefit).

1. A nation-state is first and foremost sovereign only to the extent that it can determine and control the access of goods and people to its territory. Secure and non-porous borders through which ingress, including immigration, and egress are effectively controlled is an existential measure of its sovereignty.
2. Anti-American – a person who opposes American sovereignty 1) as an idea through impugnation, and/or 2) existentially by actively working to reduce/eliminate such sovereignty.
3. Anti-American sedition – activities intended to radically and/or rapidly change the existing character, make-up, and/or established order of America through extra-legal means.

Today the media is full of reports and interviews with progressive politicians unabashedly promoting open borders without (yet) daring to say it in those words.  What they volubly promote instead is a 1) catch, 2) keep the families together, and 3) then release policy for illegal aliens caught after surreptitiously crossing the border.  They are to be released on the basis of 1) having purposely violated US laws, and 2) on the fiction that all illegal aliens have a prima facie legitimate case for seeking asylum.

What gives lie to all this, and is known to our anti-American politicians is that only about 3% of the illegal entrants return for their asylum court hearings which would legitimize their stay in the US.  The other 97% know they have no leg to stand on, and that they would be taken into custody and deported were they to present themselves.  Their only hope for staying here is to remain a fugitive long enough until our anti-American Left (presuming the existence of a pro-American Left) can muster enough public opinion to force the federal government to designate them as the next ‘DACAs’ or ‘Dreamers’ or … in sufficient numbers so as to make their en masse deportation no longer feasible.  And voila! We have yet another new tranche of Democrat voters who have no love or understanding of the country into which they have infused.  Their loyalty is only to the globalist progressive cause and its visible political and opinion leaders who are bent on taking us to that new future.

Meanwhile, all the nation’s light thinkers from Laura Bush on down are focused on the lamestream’s characterizations of foreign children ripped from the arms of their loving parents and “placed into cages with concrete floors”.  The deteriorating fate of America, and Americans seeking to live free and prosper, does not even rate a ripple in today’s overheated public forums.  No one sees what is happening as a blatant, ongoing, and existential abrogation of our national sovereignty.

As a redux on separating kids, the discussion in the comment stream of ‘Separating kids from parents’ is long and intense.  There the Left bases its presents on assertions that 1) the current policy was invented by President Trump, 2) our borders should remain porous to rescue our economy with illegal alien workers, 3) the children of illegal aliens are worth more to America than the American children we separate from their incarcerated parents, 4) longstanding US laws that mandate the handling of illegal entrants are laws that need not be enforced, and 5) the extra-legal coddling of illegal alien families with kids will do nothing to increase the ongoing border violation rate by future illegals.

The last one is doubly remarkable in the Left’s longstanding claim that America is responsible for all the problems that drug production, trafficking, and distribution create in the Western Hemisphere, because we invite it all by our prolific consumption of drugs.  Yet removing the dire consequences of dangerous and illegal border crossings with children (many used as pawns by traffickers), a more benign and welcoming America will somehow not invite more Hispanics from shithole countries to attempt the dangerous trip on the Yellow Brick Road to Oz.  In short, progressives believe our consumption of drugs invites more drugs and its attendant problems, but our extra-legal welcome of illegal alien families with children does not invite more such families.  Can someone explain the definition of ‘terminally stupid’?

To put a bow on it, the people crossing our southern border today also arrive with an attitude – America owes them.  This message was intensified under Obama and has been communicated over the years by our anti-American Left to Latino populations in the western hemisphere.  They now arrive being told that America and Americans are beholden to them, and, that as illegals having endured a difficult journey, they deserve and are in line for benefits greater than those received by America’s needy, and most certainly more than are due to those waiting their turn to legally immigrate into our country.

The President signing yesterday’s executive order was taken by the Left as some sort of victory and vindication that existentially open borders are now the de facto policy of the federal government.  When in fact, the EO is really still in adjudication and has served to prod Congress to pass the ‘compromise’ or skinny immigration bill designed to properly address the problem.  No matter the fate of this legislation, Homeland Security and the Border Patrol will be kept in place going through the motions to secure our borders so as to bamboozle the ever-susceptible.
