I would be curious to see Ginsberg ‘s opinion on the Jew baker who did not want to make a cake for a Nazi. I wonder how she could justify a government agency forcing the baker to bake it.
   Also, I recall a baker in Oregon that was fined $150,000 or more in a similar issue. Can they get their money back?

   Looks like:
   Newsom (34%) and Cox (26%) in Nov.
   LaMalfa is currently winning with 52%, but might get caught in a run off with a midget DEM (Walters is currently 4th) in Nov
   McClintock is at 53% with half the votes counted, #2 is a Dem at 20%
   Feinstein 44% and midget (either Kevin Leon currently at 10 or a midget REP currently 9) in Nov
   Looks like Hodge is running solidly behind Miller 45/55

    Waiting game. With less than a quarter of the votes in, HH is only down by 250 votes, was down by 275. Closing in. Too close to call and she could pull it off. Heck, either one could pull it off. No updates till Thursday? Wait and see.

    June 5, 2018 at 11:23 PM The final update for election night as a pdf file. We’ll refine the number by tomorrow afternoon. A rough estimate of ballots remaining to be counted is between 12 and 15,000 ballots.

    I checked the total reported votes on last report which are at 16K.
    What is important is the undervotes, in the Sheriff race it has in all reports been just under 7% and in the DA race it has consistently been just under 12%. That will not change much at all after 4 reports so all those votes are off the table.
    If those patterns hold we are talking about 28 to 31K total votes, so less than 50% turnout with all mail voting.

    C’est la vie. I just figure that 38 is the new 24. We are all doomed to eventually have Stupidvisors who speak in uptalk in any case. I feel a little bad for HH since those county gigs appear to lead to more lucrative non-profit positions (they don’t strike me as being ‘jobs’ exactly). Politics can be a gift that keeps on giving.
    As usual, any statewide position is likely to be locked down. I’d appreciate a (R) governor, but that ain’t likely to happen. It would be nice to avoid 100 arcane new gun laws and endless new fees to help the balance sheets of the many Courtiers of the Blue State.
    At least I’ll have the Miss America bathing suit competition to look forward to.

    jon smith at 5:36 – There’s a lot more to that story about HD than lies from the union. HD has been trying to expand their brand into a bigger world market for some time now. The old basic air cooled V twin design that Harley owners love is struggling with the realities of ever more stringent air and noise regs. Also the bulk and cost of the bigger bikes just doesn’t work in Asia where the growing market for consumer products is drawing in a lot of manufacturers. Sales are down in the US and HD has to face reality and shrink production. HD has been buying sub assemblies such as front suspensions from Japanese companies for decades. Their newest line of smaller water cooled bikes are sourced from India (number 2 in motorcycle production behind China).
    Right now HD doesn’t have a very bright future. They are going to have to make a lot of changes in their product line and where they produce their products if they are to stay in business at all. The unions are hardly a reliable source of information about this topic.

    Let me smear Hilary Hodge again by accurately quoting her in context from her former column in The Union:

    That describes, clinically speaking, a sociopath. When they realize they cannot get anything more from you, they move to the next prey…and not a second before then. It’s not even personal. Seriously, they will settle for cig if need be, just as long as they can get something from the victim . Ok, you may use the term psychopath if, like me, you don’t wish to get bogged down splitting hairs.
    They also lack the ability to empathize or feel remorse. You can’t shame a sociopath. Impossible. The only regret they are cabable of feeling is the remorse that they got caught, never for the victim.
    You cannot shame them, you cannot reason with them. They exist solely to take, solely to find prey. Thus I agree one should never ever apologize to them. As long as there is one person out there who will not say “no”, they will come back for more.

    Hilary Hodge apparently received a degree from UC Davis in 2005 (that claim in a letter to a UC Davis magazine she wrote decrying the pepper spray incident)… does anyone reading this blog know what it was that she studied?
    What is her spouse’s name? When and where were they married?
    In her coming out column, she said she had been married at age 26 (in 2006?) and came out as a lesbian about a year later, apparently divorcing soon afterwards… that would be 11 years ago… 2007?
    The election is over but for the counting, perhaps now we can ask the really tough questions that would typically be volunteered when the person first announces intentions to run for office.

    TJ, it would be political malpractice for HH to concede before half the votes are counted.
    Yes, Greg Diaz won an overwhelming victory, which is what happens when you are an incumbent without major scandal and no one else with a scintilla of qualifications for the office runs for the office.
    I hate not having a polling place to go to and show my face (the Kentucky Flat Schoolhouse has been mine since 1994) and I hate that my vote, submitted yesterday, isn’t counted yet.

    I spent a minute checking out Lillian Green and Cameron Whitten as mentioned in that article.
    I mean, man, what pieces of work. Maybe it’s just a modern version of Elmer Gantry, but those folks can only extract what you give them.
    If you feel like taking sides, there’s always a handful of evil right wingers that do something stupid. The problem is that there are 1000’s of those Green Libertarian hucksters out there. The population of the two groups doesn’t even begin to compare.
    In the short term, the hucksters on the left will feel the thrill of power and even make a bit of dosh. In the long run, they’ll serve to heavily radicalize their opponents.
