    I finally got around to reading the HuffPo article you linked, and was not surprised to find you completely missed the sleight of hand.
    The “official death toll” is the confirmed dead as a result of the storm. Like a tree falling on you, or a drowning.
    The toll by the Harvard study added in folks whose health care went south after the storm, and died not during the storm but after it. Perhaps long after it.
    To wit:”Interruption of medical care was the primary cause of the increase in mortality rates in the months after the hurricane, according to the study. Researchers said their 4,645 estimate is “likely to be conservative” and the death toll may actually exceed 5,000.”
    In other words, people in poor health died sooner than expected. In the months after the hurricane.

Ok, if you as a weekend warrior can sneer at people who had a draft number like Todd who didn’t get called I guess active federal military service can sneer at a weekend warrior. Yes ya po’ ol’ fakenewsman I have shared my DD form 214 over the years with people who matter to refute the crap from the growers and it does not show what they peddled. Much like the ‘sheriffs business card’ you guys were shopping around and even had Pelline go to the sheriff with. The problem was it was made with the wrong NCSO emblem and the wrong phone number, remember that Dr. R? While I love the Marines I never was one. Don’t you remember going through this 2 yeas ago and 2 before that? Memory fade or just following the talking points for Nevada county lefties? 😉

    A DD214 means Don rwas eleased from military service. He could have been dishonorably discharged for smoking weed or, Lord have mercy, have discovered a bone spur and gotten a medical discharge. In and of itself a DD214 is about meaningless. I smell a cover up.

    What I read from DB is that he has a DD214. Nothing more, nothing less.
    Let’s see, facing the draft… two years of carrying an M16 through rice paddies as a draftee, four years of enlistment or 6 years if you stay in college (and ROTC)until you graduate starting the six year clock but you enter the service as a fraggable 2nd lieutenant. Or the reserves, with six months to start (including basic) and then part time, a weekend a month and a 2week vacation every year, courtesy of Uncle Sam. Equivalent to one year hard time, if you don’t get called up for extended active duty.
    All are honorable. I chose another legal and honorable option… I registered, lived with my 1H draft status and never got called.

    American soldiers is not exactly a 2 week vacation. You are an idiot if you believe it was. there were four reserve units of our type on the West Coast. Two were activated. Mine wasn’t but we were told to be ready to go with a two week notice.

    Hey, here is an idea for ya po’ ol’ fakenewsman @641, search back exactly 2 and 4 years ago for this same thread here. The facts have not changed. My DD214 reads honorable. Just the same as when the usual suspects had peddled their stories before but had the service wrong.
    Just because some scumbag puts something in a declaration many years back in someone else’s divorce does not make it so especially if its not in evidence file or transcripts!
    So which of your favorite local candidates are we takin’ the rhetorical hickory to so it hurts?
    Perhaps it has to do with that little complaint I recently filed against a local campaign manager with the CA Sec State? Or perhaps its both.

    Crapper “jon” can’t even get the 214 right. It’s generated from your first day in basic. It’s your history. Everything you ever do while your considered government property. Every award, every disciplinary action.
    Now didn’t Paul Give Bush crap for being a weekend warrior? Paul.. Your Daddy help you out? That’s what you said about Bush. Ya’ gotta be special to get weekend warrior gigs and stay close to home.
    And a hospitality unit no less. ( You made the mistake of actually saying which one a while back.. Yup,, I looked it up.)
    Mine is long extinct. Yours is still active.
    I belonged to a Red Horse unit.( AF equivalent to Navy SEABEEs)
    We were combat trained. 90% of USAF is non combat.(you do know that,, right?) Pilots, security police, the PJs, and civil engineering( nice title) are pretty much it for being weaponized.
    Just for the sake of gloating, my best bud was the VARY first to qualify to man an M60, air force wide on our AFSC.( remember what that means?)
    The Pentagon realized Civil Engineering were the real pricks of the AF, and put us to good use. We got aggressor training as well.
    OH the hell we gave others when war game time came. We REALLY,, REALLY,, got into the spirit of it, and didn’t play nice.
    And you? Gen. Chester’s golf caddy? any tails of the water hazard?

    It’s our Son who has seen most of the deployments. It was his C130 that dragged Noriega out of Panama. Then later, the rescue of Jessica Lynch. Yup, our Son has been in the up close and personal
    of so many actions. His DD214 has plenty of redaction’s. After 20 years I say he’s done his part.

    Pelline is now spinning the Roseanne fiasco as if Trump is to blame for setting a “tone”. That is how liberals think and of course, they blame others. Rosanne took the tweet down and apologized. For a liberal, that would usually be enough and they get their job back. But when a conservative or a Trump supporter makes a gaffe like she did, it is the burning pit of hell for you and never returns. As an aside I seem to recall she is Jewish. So if she was a liberal she would be crying ANTI-SEMITE yet she has not done that. She and those she tweeted about are “protected” groups. We see who has the most protection don’t we?

    I figure that the network is welcome to fire people anytime they want (like any employer should be able to do). Barr’s third mistake, aside from touching a third rail and not being particularly funny, is to apologize. There’s absolutely no good that can come from apologizing. Trump appears to be one of the few who knows this.
    No doubt you’ll see lot of comparisons between Barr and the NFL kerfuffle, although doing it on national TV vs. doing it on your own time is a somewhat different situation.
    What I’d like to see go up in smoke is monopoly holdings of entertainment and media. In a sense, getting kicked off your show, or twitter, or youtube, or GoDaddy, isn’t such a bad thing since it just might encourage people to start their own.
    Good thing that Wanda Sykes quit in a huff though. She has a better touch at knowing what’s acceptable speech.

    I think Victor Hanson nailed it on a discussion I watched once in declaring that various ‘use taxes’ are the wave of the future. All of these cities have a big pension problem and an ever increasing marginal expense to get anything done.
    Even a ratchet up in property taxes due to prices won’t bail them out, so it’s easier to just assign a fee to anything you can name. Each individual one makes some sense and the aggregate will pay the bills. I did a quick look-up of Sunnyvale vs. Grass Valley’s budget per citizen and it’s 2 1/3 times as high, so it looks like running a town is a pretty elastic thing.
